A true Alty legend. It would be so fitting for him to score the winner against Cambridge,to finish off the Alty career of one of our best strikers ever.

All the best at United, no don't they'll be banter if he bumps into Rod at Carrington

Hard to quantify quite what the presence of Colin Little has done for Altrincham Football Club in the six years he has been here.  A simply brilliant striker.

Someone in the lower leagues is still going to get one hell of a player.

Thank you Colin Little for all you have done for Altrincham Football Club.  A true Alty legend.

Without Colin we'd not have got back in the Conf when we did.

Thanks for all the very happy memories and I hope you have a very successful career at OT. I'm absolutely positive you will. We're all going to miss you.

I'd hate to choose between you and Jackie S ... and that says it all. The word is often overused nowadays, but you are, and always will be, a TRUE legend to all Alty fans.

Spoke to Col when he came in Tesco's shopping yesterday and he told me of his new venture. Obviously I kept mum as he said there was an announcement immenant. What is there to be said about this gentleman that has not already been said? best of luck at United Col, thanks for staying at Alty when you could have gone elswhere for more money etc, you obviously liked being here as much as we liked having you as an Alty player. There is no doubt Alty owe you alot for your service to the club. Would be nice if one of next seasons pre-season friendlies could be a testamonial for you - maybe against Man United as they now are going to benefit from your services. Hope you can score 1 or 2 more before the end of your season, for yourself or the fans it wont matter. All the best mate!

Its been great watching Colin play over the years, he has brought the club success and put a smile on alot of faces including my own.

Good Luck for the future Colin, as others have said a true Alty Legend up there with John King, Jeff Johnson, Graham Heathcote etc.

Thanks again, Dave.

Alty's top goalscorer in games played at the highest level of Non League football (i.e. from the Alliance Premier League to its current incarnation as the Blue Square Premier).

And I suspect this position will stand for quite a few years, too.

One quick query though: Manchester United...?

I thought that Colin was a diehard Manchester City fan..?!

Always liked this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQe6n6luTdQ&feature=related  Has to be said though that goal at WOking might be my favourite ever Alty goal and summed Colin Little up to a tee, a toss up between that and the 5th he got at home to Aldershot. Awesome. As said here, as impressive as Col's record is it doesn't get close to telling his story and his inflence, he didn't have to come here, he could have got more money elsewhere, he was here because he wanted to be and without him our future probably didn't bear thinking about. Thanks Col, I don't think you'll ever know just how much you mean to us. Glad you've got a good gig at United and I hope someone lower down throws a shedload of money at you for your services. Oh, and you gave us the best ever Alty chant!

i am a little tear struck, it may be the beer, it is definately this news,

without doubt the greatest player i have had the great fortune to see put on an alty shirt. legend is the only word to describe someone who epitomises our club.

i have friends who have no interest in alty yet ask me on a regular basis to regaail them with colins latest goal scoring feats. I hope we can roll back the clocks and get col in his pomp back for the final few times we will see him in red and white

I've had a lot of years watching this club, and Colin is right up there with the great Alty strikers. Whilst I'm sorry to see him go, I'm delighted to see him going into coaching with youngsters. Let's hope he can produce a few moulded in his own image (even if that'll probably put them beyond Alty's reach !)

Unfortunately every good thing has to come to an end sometimes.

Without Colin we would never have made the Conference and without Colin we certainly would not have stayed there......fantastic goals over the seasons, my own favourite being the overhead kick against Harrogate Town (BSN).

But it's not just the goals, it's the fact he has stuck by his local team, the fact he turns up to coach kids when he could be at home etc. Happy to talk in the bar and given us a laugh a few years ago with his legendary 'tank tops'.

All the best at United, but make sure you don't roll your socks down ! Just hope we can celebrate one more goal before the seasons over.

Glad he has chosen his time to go and  taken up a great opportunity , and another potential Alty manager in the making. Great servant of the club and to hang around a struggling club when he could of got more money elsewhere is a testament to his loyalty. Shame i have been so far away and not being able to witness his exploits but those You tube clips help.
His scoring record is immense and to consider a lot of that time we were struggling makes it even more of an acheivement.

What a fantastic opportunity for Col - it is a reward for a great professional of integrity and passion for the game.

To wish him well and to thank him for his time at Alty would barely do Colin justice for the service he has done the Robins, especially as he could quite easily have gone elsewhere for more money.

Colin Little has been monumental for Alty and his goals and contribution will be talked about whenever 2 or 3 alty fans gather round a few pints in the same hushed and awed manner we talk about other true Alty legends like Jackie Swindells, John Rogers and Ian Tunnacliffe.

His goals will be remembered in Alty folklore and rightly so....without him we would definetly not be where we are today.

Thank you so much Colin for all you've done and the very best of luck with Utd....if you are succesful there as you were with us then I look forward to you standing next to an 80 yr old sir alex lifting the Champions League trophy in a few short years!!!

For someone to come along to Alty at the latter stages in his career and give it the commitment that Colin Little has given to Alty is in itself something that will be difficult to repeat.

Even with my limited access to matches over the last few years ive still seen some wonder goals, and touches of pure class. Colin Little came along when we were in danger of fading into Ossett awayday hell and helped drag us to where we are now. For me Colin Little was the spark that started a blaze at Moss Lane, gave us a real belief that we could get great players in our shirt.

No doubt without you Colin we wouldnt be walking tall in the BSP, we owe you so much.

Thanks, and good luck. Hope you still pop in to the real theatre of dreams whenever you can!!

As many have said Colin is a true legend that will be missed.

One goal I remember that sums his play up for me is his goal against Droylsden in 2008. Just a little run and suddenly he was stood in the middle of the six yard box with no defenders within six feet of him ready to head the ball home.

Good luck in your new role Colin!

Colin....... Good luck in your new venture at OT and thank you for all you have done for Alty..  Strikers of your calibre are few and far between and the off the pitch stuff you have done with coaching the youngsters etc  is also commendable..

Your a credit to your profession..

Best wishes...

On a lighter note I suppose GH will be the next to leave!!!

This is more emotional than i thought it would be!

We would not be where we are without Col! His goals got us promoted and kept us here. I know we've obviously received reprieves but without Col we would have been deeper into the relegation zone and other teams would have been receiving the reprieves.

As he said it is so fitting than he leaves the club as a established BSP team who are now able to compete with all the teams in this league.

Hopefully he will get a decent run out in all the remaining games!

Thanks for the memories Col and thanks for the loyalty you showed Alty and all you did for this club!!

My first memory of Colin was when he scored a couple against us for Crewe in a CSC cup final and i called him all the names specially reserved for those who score against us. Then when I heard he was joinig us the vocabulary was quickly changed. Even more so when he started scoring all those goals that got us where we are today.
Anyone who wants to play for his loacal club and is prepared to do so for far less money than he could get elsewhere (particularly in this age of greed) is a top man in my book. Legend is a much overused word on this forum but in this case it is the only word needed to sum up a truly great servant of our club.
Best of luck Colin

Thanks for some fantastic memories and goals.

Alty's loss is United's gain and I wish you every success, you richly deserve it for the sacrifices you have made on behalf of this club.

Terrific player with great levels of commitment and loyalty.

Best of luck at United Colin, no doubt in my mind you'll have a great career there.

In my 16 years watching Alty he's probably thee most important player, like has been said his goals got us into that final play off spot in CN, and his other goals in basically what was a poor team (no disrespect) the first few years in conference is remarkable, i mean to finish 3rd highest scorer in league...

I hope we keep the fire burning inside our club and keep going from strength to strength, players like Colin dont come along often, bloody good and LOYAL

Good look in your new role....

To put it most simply:

Without Colin Litlle we would not have come up from the Conference North

Without Colin Little we would not have qualified for the AGM Cup season after season

It is to his massive credit that he has carried the hopes of this club on his back until such time as we have built a team strong enough to survive and prosper at this level without him.

And he is such a lovely bloke as well - a true gentleman and a credit to the club.

Thank you Colin Little for being the Alty player of this generation that has made the biggest impact on the club.

Is their any footage of this goal anywhere?

I'm devastated to think that I probably won't see Colin play again. The word legend is bandied about a lot but Colin is one of those it truely applies to.

My favourite goal was that one against Woking. I summed up perfectly the extra time he seemed to have on the ball and the poise he had in abundance.
Every touch perfect and the ball passed into the goal.

The article on the main site also sums up the modesty of the man. So much of he's said is about Alty rather than about him.

Good luck to you Colin. You deserve it!

Like most I am more emotional than expected. In all my years watching Alty he is possibly my biggest hero, many memories of him turning 2 or 3 players with one turn or dummy. I have also adapted a movement from Col when I play and I know that sounds very childish but it bloody works, so I'll never forget him. He has all the great attributes to being a top class coach. Wlil be truly missed, one hell of a natural footballer. I hope he gets a run now towards the end of the season. It will be hard to say good bye to a player I love !!!! all the best !!!

Leg-end to be sure.

The winner at Woking sticks with me as it was a true strikers piece of work, chasing the ball down and leaving the defenders for dead; finishing with style. It was also such a boost to get off to a winning start at a ground we haven't had too much luck on; look what Woking went on to do that season....

Col was also first in to the oppositions bar for a refreshment and a cheeky smile after a win. We'll also miss the stories of his late night jogs....

I was looking forward to Salisbury as my last game of the season but with nothing really riding on it I wasn't sure there'd be much atmosphere at the away end for a long mid-week trip but now hopefully the southern exiles will turn out in force to say goodbye to a true Alty legend.

Thanks for all you've done Colin and all the best in you're new role, so glad you can move on to something so exciting for you.

All the best Col you will be missed. A true gent in a time of greed amongst many footballers. A player for those of us too young to have seen Jackie Swindells scoring exploits to talk about with the same amount of respect and awe.

Agree with so much of what has already been said, so here's my 5 top Col moments:-

(5) His equaliser at Dag & Red in the 4-1 defeat towards the end of the 06-07 season - I think its on the DVD, a twist and a turn then a 25 yarder into the top corner - utter class.

(4) Again at D&R, the fourth in the rain soaked 4-2 win in 05-06 - Grimly hanging on to a 3-2 lead a cross skids into the 6 yd box, the keeper spills it on to a sniffing Little's knee and over the line it crawls - get in!

(3) Away at Alfreton in Conf North - Their chairman, Wayne Bradley, firmly put in his place by Col's opener, a deft volleyed flick into the opposite corner from a deep high cross, a finish belonging to a higher league at a much, much better place.

(2) In Alfreton's bar after that game - An apologetic Little bashfully removes his 'binman chic' woolie hat when he realises Mr Goodwin is not impressed with his post match attire.

(1) The permanent txt msg from Mad Frankie which always seemed to read "1-0 Little".

All the best Col - a legend from Altrincham to Timperley  (and beyond).

Colin

What can I say mate. I have so enjoyed watching you over the last 6 years with my kids. You are and always will be a legend at this club. I liked the way you had your life mapped out, particularly the bit about going semi-pro with Alty when you left full time soccer. I really wish you all the best in your future career at MUFC, I know the kids who will be your charges will benefit from your vast experience as a player. I remember speaking to Brian Fletcher from T and D of when he was a manager at Stamford Juniors and he recalled with horror when you put 5 past his team as a young lad in Junior Football! Brian still shudders at the memory!

Seriously, thanks for telling us well in advance so we can plan accordingly for your farewell and remember, you will always be welcome at Alty FC, fans, players and management alike so make sure you stay in touch.

Add a couple more for the DVD mate, and remember you can only be good if you come from round our way.

Steve the Macarena dancer from Sale!!

Anyone else think it's a worthy idea for a whip round to buy some sort of "thank you" present from the fans???

I for one would be happy to contribute, and I think it would be fitting that Colin had something to look back on to remember how much he was appreciated at ML.

Just a thought....

Those Green and White fiends are plotting mischeif... http://www.nvfc.co.uk/board/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6537

Apart from it being them, I'd have thought Colin would probably drop down at least one more level. The commitment involved in laying for a part-time BSP side isn't going to be much less than a part-time BSN side, Shirley?

I'd like to see him go to Trafford or Abbey Hey, somewhere proper tin-pot, and recapture that 25 goal a season form.

Won't be the same without Colin Little. Fantastic player for us and a true Altrincham Legend. My favourite goals from Colin are both the last minute goal at Woking and a great goal against Stevenage on an opening day a few years ago. You don't come across very many strikers who can guarentee you goals at any level but to be consistently in double figures when we were battling relegation just goes to show how good he has been for us. Will be impossible to replace you, thanks for everything.

Good Luck at United. I remember the Droylsden away day too - cracking day out. Also remember talking to Col at end of season ball a few years ago when HE was looking forward a certain Halifax Town player promising to come to Alty the following season. I don't think you realise how important you have been to 'our little club' over the past 6 years Col - a true Alty Legend.

I remember a few years ago, my lad getting his photo taken with the team during the pre-season team photo shoot. The team was all set ready to get the shot taken and I noticed my lad was about to cry (he was 5!!)  I asked him what was up and he said it was because he wasn't sitting beside Colin Little. Cue the team being reorganised by Colin so that he could sit besdie my lad. Sometimes its the small things that matter. Good luck in your new job, thanks for that day and most of all, thanks for the goals. From Rob and Robbie. Looking forward to Saturday!

Thanks for all the wonderful memories Colin. Some of my favourites include the goal against stevenage on the opening day a couple of seasons ago and, again on the opening day, against woking. The fact that you are going to have your own memorial DVD with all your goals just go's to prove how much you have done for this club.

People use the word legend far too much nowadays, but for you it is truly deserved. Any aspiring footballer can look up to you as the model player, both for skill and as a player. To come down to Conference North level to play for us when you could have gone elsewhere marks you as an immensely loyal player. If you left us in the top 10 in the conference national it would be an amazing achievement, and even more wonderful if you could score the goal that put us there. And whichever team you go to now will have gained a top, top player, on and off the pitch.

Just remember there will always be room for you at Altrincham FC, pop in and have a drink sometime when you're free.

All the best in the future Col, you deserve it.

Bighairedmike.

Whilst I concur with the praise for Colin's goal at The Butchers Arms as being a classic example of how a true goalscorer can miraculously find space and lose their marker inside the penalty box, I think you will find that he actually scored with a header!

Colin,  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
You could easily have gone to another club for more money or full time football. There are plenty of less gifted players how we could all name who have trolled round this league just the money but you stayed with one club, took from them only what they could affort and payed us all back many times over.

You deserve the best in everything you do. Hope Man United appreciate what they have got as much as we have.

Colin,

So hard to put into words how thankful we all are and what we think of you, certainly can't really add to anything that's been said. However, you won't know how low our ebb has been at certain points in the last decade. For a player of your class and passion to come to Alty, not us to you, forsaking money that you could have got elsewhere and to lift us back up to the level where we belong was a Godsend, literally a God sent to us.

I hope whenever you feel sad about leaving Alty you'll be able to appreciate what you have done for this club and this area. There are very few footballers who can say there career has been truly worthwhile. Yours has.

You've shown pride but you've also given us pride. People knew who you were, they saw you on Soccer Saturday all the time, it wasn't unnoticed. If you supported Alty at school you were in the shadows but where I've teached even the Utd and City fans have heard of Colin Little when the Alty lads talk about Alty and agree he's a class act. You could never buy that, whoever we signed from now on.

And if you could see the amount of kids who support Alty in the local schools, it's absolutely amazing and you'd know exactly why you did it and came to us.

But I think you already do.

Good luck whatever the future holds Col, all the best.
