Quite happy with that team. Options on the bench too which has not often been the case this season.

Perry has just scored for Tamworth.

The ball must have hit him and then deflected into the net whilst he was inexplicably falling over to claim a foul.

This is for me the hardest game we have left this season so if we are playing for a draw I can quite understand.

The team looks strong to me, but as last week I worry where the width will come from.

Bad result at Grimsby. I had that as a nailed on home win, coming back from 2 down at a big club like that will give Tamworth a big confidence boost as well.

Post by: TheCultOfIanTunnacliffe on March 26, 2011, 02:55:18 PM
Final score: Grimsby 2 Tamworth 2.

Disappointing to see Tamworth scrape a point there, especially when they were 2-0 down.

Don't be ridiculous Jacko

Nicky Clee missed the last game due to injury and was a doubt for this one

Dale has played the last few months in Conference North which is both physically and mentally at least a yard slower than Conference Premier. If we started with him he probably wouldn't last past half time. To bring him on as an impact sub like Ken did against Tamworth is a much better idea IMHO

Also, as has been quite rightly said elsewhere beating Southport is more of a priority

Hi,

Those of you trying to listen to the match commentary on Radio Robins will be aware that we are not currently broadcasting. This is due to the internet service at Darlington's ground not being fast enough to support the commentary transmission. We're going to try again at half time.

Fingers crossed!

Title: Re: Today's match thread...
Post by: 62vintage on March 26, 2011, 03:53:15 PM
We need to keep them at bay for the second half. If we can get a 0-0 here it would be a brilliant result. For me it's all about winning the ohme games so anything we get away is a bonus.

Absolutely agree, any points today would be a magnificent bonus and set us up nicely for the next biggest  game of the season on Tuesday.
Keep going boys

Hi,

Radio Robins has now stopped broadcasting from Darlington - the combination of poor internet & mobile connections at that ground has meant that for the most part the broadcast quality has been very poor. Apologies to al those trying to follow the game on Radio Robins today.

He gets more chances than Twiss because Twiss is the only player who can control the ball and lay it off. Thus creating space for others.

I hope dale and nicky have knocks otherwise what an insult to the traveling support!!! as negative as gh at his worst, come on Alty!!

Nothing negative about it. Darlington are a big, strong, physical team and we went to match them at their game. I don't think clee or Johnson are 100% and may have been bullied a bit if they had started (hence why Wes didnt play).

They both worked well as impact players when Darlington had started to tire.

As for being offended, the only thing that offends me is the lack of belief in Kenny. Bring on Tuesday!

we won because we bought on the players I said should of started, u have no argument

Are you being deliberately obtuse Jacko?

The people who were there seem to indicate that both players were effective as 'impact substitutes'

I would venture to suggest that had Nicky Clee started the game he'd likely not have still been on at the point where he crossed for Reevesy

As I keep gettin' told when I moan about nobody agreeing with me , it's a forum and a matter of opinion and that's what makes it great.

I doubt that nobody disagrees with you that Dale is a far superior player than Twiss but could Dale have done what he did today and against Tamworth for 90 mins? Who knows..?

Just enjoy the day jacko. We don't get many like this.

The tactics were right. The team was right. The subs were right

Twiss did his job. Dale did his job.

What a result....

Twiss held up well, damien (after missing an earlier chance) took his chance

dale ran and ran

STEVIE CONNORS PLEASE WILL YOU SIGN - EVERYPLAYER, should look at him for a lesson in passion and commitment - he shows whats needed in a relgatrion scrap

but by far ENGLANDS NO.1 was top of the class - 6 saves which were certain goals before his last minute touch....proves why he should be playing week in, week out!

at the end you could see what it meant to the management, players, and ofc the fans

Those who travelled could be heard all over the vast stadium!

finally, 1900ish/25,000  = is obismal

(PS. hayes only getting 300ish not right...)

Just back...and now on a laptop rather than a phone.

Today was quite simply immense.

The management got the tactics right, the team worked their tripe off, the subs were at the right time and it everything went well.

For once we had a bit of luck with a couple of Darlo chances but then that was reversed when Dale 100% (and the Darlo fans who were taunting us to the left were signalling it as well) clearly smashed the ball over the line and it was disallowed when the guy cleared it.  That was heartbreaking if it had mattered at the end.

Stuart was as god as he has ever been, at least 4 world class saves. Connors ran and ran, Joseph was so composed, I could name them all and give a positive.

Then we brought on Clee and Johnson at just the rigt time and they had loads to worry about then.  Reeves had an easier volley to score than the header that went wide.

The celebrations at the end from the players and fans was brilliant (see official site for a taste of it).  And Kenny and Bimmo....they looked like they would explode.

Its days like this that make the sh*t days all worthwhile.

There is work to be done but today was good..damn good.

Proud to be an Alty fan tonight.

I wonder what Lawton said to the Darlo fan in the grey top at the end, the fan was going mental and offering the team to come and fight them.

It wouldn't have taken much would it.  They were a cross lot weren't they.

They were very inaccurate in their songs.  Town full of smackheads?

Alty is many things but its not really a town full of smackheads.

Back home in Shropshire now after a great day out... a massive stadium which was 95% empty... Brilliant support by the Alty fans. (all 101 of them)..  The groundsmen seemed to have a desire to attempt to fkn waterlog the entire edges of the whole pitch both prior to kick off and during half time... I thought the ref was somewhat over officious, however that said a superb 3 points gained that the majority of us probably thought we wouldnt get ....

I have to say I think Kenny Mc's tactic of starting with Twiss up front  with Reeves and then changing to Clee and  Johnson after an hour worked like a dream.  There back four were comfortable in the first half but had to work really hard to cope with Dales close control and Nicky's runs after they came on.. Nice to see Chrissy Senior come on.. Not so nice to see Paul The Tosser Terry returning after injury...  I am convinced that the effort  Dale had  was over the line... On a personal note I thought the Stewards refusal to let us out for a ciggy at half time was churlish at best and the fact they searched the females bags prior to entrance yet didnt even bother with searching the guys was strange to say the least...

The Great Escape is definitely on now and apart from a difficult trip to Grimsby we have the ability and belief that we can win the majority of our remaining fixtures..  One thing that pleased me is the passion and pride shown by all the  players including the loanees during and after the game....

Cant wait until next Tues night when Scouseport come calling.... We owe them one....
Cmon lads keep the run going, Onwards and Upwards.
Cmon The Alty.

I do just wonder if the irrigation was an attempt to clip Nicky Clee's wings (pun definitely intended). If so, that would explain why they repeated the exercise - so it wouldn't have chance to dry out before he came on !

Grimsby ? We've drawn with them at Moss Lane, and Tamworth, one of the worst sides I've seen all season, took 4 points off them this season, coming from two down to draw this afternoon. They don't worry me too much to be honest ! Onwards and ESPECIALLY upwards  :)

Great day out and for me coburn man of the match.

I think that you are right Darren......if Stuart hadn't made those saves, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to dominate Darlington in the way that we did in the last 20 minutes.

It wasn't the World Class goalkeeping display that we saw at Rushden......but still made the 'brilliant' category!

Brilliant day out and fanstastic result. Tactics were totally spot on.

Not entirely sure why Darlo felt the need to flood the corners it seemed completely bizarre. Brilliant away support as always and it did seem slightly surreal with less than 2000 people in there.

From where I was stood, I couldnt tell if Dales effort was over the line, but from talking to others it defo seemed like it was over the line. Also it looked as if Reeves should have had a penalty in the second half

One of the funnier moments was some little scrote running forward a couple of rows to shout something at Smithy. Once Smithy glared at him, he scurried back to his seat quite quickly.

Fingers crossed it will be 4 wins from 4 on Tuesday. Our home form has been pretty good recently - 11 points from 15. Bring it on :)

Well, if you're game plan is to T**t it up to target men or aim it long and let it settle in the corners and put teams under pressure....
