Title: Will we have to suffer mile long segregation again tonight?
Post by: Altrinchman on August 09, 2012, 05:36:06 PM
Wonder if we will have to suffer the ridiculous full popular side segregation tonight?

Start the game segrgated if required but at least let fans go to the middle of the pop side

i am bringing friends tonight and do not wished to be penned in the golfroad end or that little bit of the pop side.

Bad day at the Office?  ;)

We have just come back to our hotel after watching the womens olympic boxing at the ExCeL centre.  Jesus what an atmosphere but it still didn't beat Birmingham away in 86  :)

Went to a couple of events for the Commonwealths in 2002 but the atmosphere down in the big smoke is something else.

Good luck tonite Alty!

Just at the ground and stewarding for a FRIENDLY is just over the top, if it is such an effort to host this game (ie if you have to segragate to this extent) then don't play these sides in pre season.

I rekon with the amount of people I saw heading away from the ground for a pre match pint as the bar was inexcessable till 7pm the club have lost out on potential money.

And before the stewards brigade come on here saying this is how we have to do it, I refer you to my earlier point of not playing these sides in pre season. Its not mandatorry.

I guess you were not there then a couple of years ago when FCUM fans decided to charge little kids who got punched in the face - disgusting scenes.

Of course not all FCUM are scum, in fact there will only be a very small number, but if they turn up again and decide to fight then you would be the first to complain if there was no stewarding.

I was actually and stood on the golf road next to the person who got hit and had to pull one fan off swayin' dave to let him get to saftey. But may I point out we have played them twice since that game with NO trouble.

Stewards aren't just in the ground to stop fighting. They are there to help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable visit to Moss Lane and to assist in the event of unforeseen problems. If someone is taken ill, for example, it is comforting to know that the nearest steward is within easy reach and that they are properly trained to provide effective assistance.

It's not all about fighting and bad behaviour.

Did I miss something?  It wasn't segregated tonight was it and I saw fewer stewards that usual?

Agree with the original post though about that ridiculous sterile area.

Hope we can move the fences up to create a small sterile area should it be needed.

Never got a problem with segregation, in fact I love it as it keeps everyone together on the pop side. However that is just treating customers badly to have a huge area like that and displace people from usual places.

I agree with you Ecky  , i nearly posted about this myself after Wrexham game , defo no need for such a big area to be shut off , we had this discussion on here last season and nothing has been learnt

The Chequers end is a the away end, if away fans want cover, they should pay to sit down.Displacing such a huge percentage of regular attendees is not good.

Im not overly interested if this casts us in a bad light with 18 weirdos in knitted hats from God knows where, because "its not the done thing" in this league.I like others have spent years paying over the odds to stand in poor away ends, thats what happens in football. We can accomodate over 1,400 spectators on the chequers end, and only once (wrexham) in the past two decades has their ever really been a need to give any set of supporters a section of the popular side.If its an unsegregated game, great, let people walk around, and mingle etc.But if its deemed that it should be segragted, the setrile area should be where it is, infront of the acces gate that sits between the pop side and the away end.

Couldn’t agree more, part of the Moss Lane experience over the years is changing ends and going and standing next to the chequers end where the banter and atmosphere between the supporters used to be top notch. It’s got a little heated at times with the likes of Barrow, Macc, Southport etc... but i can’t recall a time when anything has kicked off in that corner. If the stewards want a bit of a sterile area move the away fans further along the away terrace, don’t move our loyal supporters half way down the pitch!!

I have emailed the club on numerous occassions on this topic. Mainly without response. however Graham Rowley did inform me towards the end of last season that the chief stewards decides on segregation, having said that, when I queried the segregation with a steward at the Wrexham friendly last week I was informed by a steward that it is the club who decides and not the stewards. This issue really does need to be sorted once and for all. It is a ridiculous situation as it is where you find over two thirds of one side of a ground is out of bounds for home supporters.  I can see that it will start to affect attendances the way it is.

It kicked it off in that corner when the World's ****est boy band from York decided to cause mischief
