Title: Alfreton- Match thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on November 22, 2017, 11:39:46 AM
Going to be a reasonable yardstick on progress this fixture. Oddschecker have both Alty & Alfreton at 100/1 to win the FA Trophy. Match odds will be available later in the week

......................Thompson
Lita...Jones...Harrison...Hampson
hancock........Moult....Densmore...Johnson
.....................Poole....Hulme

Depending on who’s fit

This would be my preferred team. Didn't go on Saturday so can't comment on Densmores' performance, so either of them at RB.

Simon Richman will presumably be serving the first game of a three-match ban on Saturday. The suspension will have come into effect yesterday (Tuesday) & should be over & done with after the Mickleover game a week on Saturday, so he would miss the Trophy game, any replay or the League Cup game next midweek, & one League game. We will miss him, but at least it should only impact on the one League match.

Agreed.  We've known our best XI for ages now (and more importantly have decent depth to cover it).

Would Sheridan potentially start instead of Harrop?  I know PP is a fan of the latter, so I assume not.

I'm not sure of our best 11.

Densmore or Bembo-Leta (and Disney), Jones or Hannigan, Hampson or Short.

All defensive decisions bizarrely

Given that he played against Ramsbottom and has been here less than a month, he will be eligible on Saturday.

If as reported on another thread, the pitch is in good nick, then I fancy Alty to win this one ...

Alfreton 2-3 Alty.

More cash in the coffers

Was an absolute pleasure to watch some of the football Alty played today. TT did make some unbelievable saves, but it would be unfair to single anybody's performance out as being any better than anybody else's. Alfreton are 14th in the northern league and the scoreline really did not flatter us. Boy, their fans can moan!

Maybe a hangover from last year and in particular this fixture result but the lads on RR made it sound like the alamo and that we were really struggling....
However every alfreton attack seemed to be defended comfortably actually and we sounded more likely to score on the counter.

Excellent result pp and the team well done

Alfreton certainly threatened in the second half but we defended resolutely and Thompson made two or three excellent saves. That said we were a constant threat going forward and they couldn't have complained if we'd scored a couple more in the second half and were worthy winners overall. I'd suggest we'd have been in more control if Poole hadn't been substituted so early as he is key in how we retain possession.

Superb performance. Hard to single out personal performances but Thompson, Moult and Johnson were immense.

Yet another excellent result, well done PP, the staff and the players. Great to see to clear evidence now of progression and reason to be confident of further progress if we can get back into CN next season.

Excellent result away from home to a team in the league above. Shows we have come a long way in a short time to be competing again. We were out of the blocks quickly again today. They as expected came into it a little second half but we could have added to our tally on the break. TT was superb today, some quality saves. JM as well. JH ran his socks off.

Wow, special mention to there moaning fans. I advised them to worry more about the football they weren't playing than moaning where throw ins were being taken.

Good following today, I reckon we must have been at least half the crowd.

Home draw on Monday please.

Not one to pass comment on games I have not seen. But any win away from home at a team in the league above is a very good result. Well done to all involved, sounded like we more than deserved it on the Radio

Went to the game today, this was a fine performance by all our players. They mucked in and rolled their sleeves up. Alfreton were ok, but our defence really did limit them, and when they did manage to break through, Tony Thompson made some great saves. This was just as well because if Alfreton had got the spur of a goal we would have been under immense pressure. JJ's run at the end was outstanding, and he was unlucky not to score. To go on a run like that after 90 + 4 mins shows his fitness and the coaching which I think is making him such a great player for us.

Their fans were very quiet but when you go 2 down inside 15 minutes there is not a lot to cheer anyway. It was not that Alfreton were a particularly bad side, it was just that they could not find any way of breaking us down and ran out of ideas.  We really showed what we can do today and I think we will even give players from the National league a hell of a game.  I feel the league cup games and CSC are distractions now, and we should concentrate on the league and the FA Trophy, as I am more worried now about a fixture backlog.

Sorry to see James Poole have to go off, but we still coped OK without him. Can the club advise on his fitness, him and JJ are my favourite players. All in all I had a great day out yesterday, enjoyed it so much I have booked for next week also. I await the draw on Monday with anticipation, lower Vanarama National team at home would be great.

Well done lads and management, great day out and really enjoyed myself. A director came up to us as we got off the coach  and said when we go in the ground we can use the bar inside there. However, everybody ignored him and went into the Alfreton Supporters club bar instead. Nice three pint session in there before the game and a great pint too!!

It's for the management to go into detail about James Poole's injury and I'm sure they'll shed more light on it, but he felt a little pull in his quad and was swiftly removed from the game as a precaution.

Yesterday was one of the best away performances for many years.  You can obviously discount the nonsense of the last two years but even before that it was just better.

Every player worked his tripe off, we played great football going forward and then threw bodies on the line when they naturally bombarded us in the second half.  If they got past the outfielders then there was no way past Tony Thompson, one of his saves was top drawer.

It was comprehensive as their keeper made 2-3 excellent saves as well.

Great to win with no luck involved, no controversy (penalty was probably a little harsh but they get given when that happens)

Watching Alty is something to look forward once again at the moment, which as it's a voluntary social pastime it probably should be.

Keep it up.
