In the 1965-66 season, our first defeat of the season was in the FA Cup 3rd Round game at Wolves. We had gone 34 unbeaten to that point, consisting of 22 League Games (Won 17); 7 FA Cup games (including a 3-1 win at Rochdale); 2 Cheshire League Cup games; 1 Cheshire Senior Cup games and 2 North West Floodlight League games. We scored 106 goals in these games.

In terms of league games, in the first season of the Alliance Premier League, we were unbeaten at home, winning 16 & drawing 3.
The following season, we lost 0-3 at home to Nuneaton on what I think was the second Saturday of the season. I think that we opened that season away from home at Stafford (3-1 win), so assuming that we may well have had a home midweek game, which, if we did, we didn't lose, the answer, in terms of league games is 20 league games unbeaten at home, plus any unbeaten home league games at the end of the 1978/79 season.If we weren't at home in a league game in that first midweek of the 1980/81 season, then the answer is 19 league games unbeaten at home, plus any unbeaten home league games at the end of the 1978/79 season, which was the season that we finished 2nd to Mossley in the Northern Premier League.

what about the year before the apl.....how did we end the year?....are there not more unbeaten games to add on the other side??
We actually finished our 1978-9 home programme with a 0-1 defeat by Macc (April 30 1979) and opened the 1980-1 home season with the APL Challenge Shield game against Vics, which we also lost 0-1 (Aug 18 1980). Brian is right about the Stafford game; the Nuneaton game was indeed the second Saturday of the season & was effectively run by Jon Sammels (ex-England international, as I remember?) for Boro, so that unbeaten run consists entirely of the League games in 1979-80.

There was an FA Cup defeat to Huddersfield and the FAT SF defeats to Wycombe amidst that 28 games (presumably also defeats in the Bob Lord Trophy and Cheshire Senior Cup somewhere too as we won neither that season). Not to knock what is rightly lauded as one of the clubs finest ever seasons. To be fair the current crop are looking like they could establish a few modern day records.

I suspect the record for home league games unbeaten is 36; from a 1-0 home defeat by Wigan Athletic on 12th April 1965 at the end of the 64-5 season through to a 3-2 home defeat by Macclesfield Town on Boxing Day 1966 in front of 7,300.

There was an FA Cup defeat to Huddersfield and the FAT SF defeats to Wycombe amidst that 28 games (presumably also defeats in the Bob Lord Trophy and Cheshire Senior Cup somewhere too as we won neither that season). Not to knock what is rightly lauded as one of the clubs finest ever seasons. To be fair the current crop are looking like they could establish a few modern day records.
Just to flesh out the bones a bit on this - we'd gone out of the BLT to Barrow before the run started; from Oct 6th 1990 to April 24th 1991 we were unbeaten in League games (from a 2-2 home draw with Yeovil to a 0-1 defeat at Barrow, which was our third game in five days); the only games lost over that period were 1-2 v Huddersfield (h - FA Cup 1st Rd (Nov 18th 1990)), 0-2 at Macc (CSC semi-final 2nd leg, March 11th 1991), & 1-2 (a) & 0-2 (h) v Wycombe in the Trophy semi (April 6th & 13th 1991). From Oct 6th 1990 to March 11th 1991 we were unbeaten by any other non-League club. That's one hell of a series of targets for the present squad!

It might. I note that City beating Wolves on pens in the league cup still officially counts as part of their current 18 wins on the trot so don’t know if the same rules apply here. It’s still 12 unbeaten in the league mind.

I depends on what the Chester game went down as. If that was classed as a win, then this one surely has to be classed as a loss.
