Is Poole definitely injured then?

It was described as a slight thigh twinge, in Brian's interview with PP after the game at Alfreton - probably a late decision.

I wouldn't be risking him with Shaw Lane and Warrington being the next 2 fixtures

Agreed - PP will ultimately know best.

Your team above - but JJ HAS to be on the left.

Going forward - given Hancock's effectiveness at No10 - it would be good to see him and Poole alternating a bit more (as oneedham has suggested). I do really like Poole though, he ties everything together and I suggest that whereas Hancock is more effective in front of goal, Poole gets the ball out to JJ quickly and more often. Good mix to have.

Agreed but with JJ left and Jones in if fit.

Let's be honest, when the league fixtures were released back in July, this game was the first one that we eagerly scanned the list for....

Haha, the excitement palpable amongst London Alty Cult. I’m looking forward to a good day on the ales round one of the more underrated UK circuits. I’m especially looking forward to bumping into any Burton fans (away at Derby in their dream local derby on Saturday) and them asking us what league we play in these days, oh dear. The Don Amott Arena looks quite the venue too, appears to only have 3 sides. It’s games like this we just have to keep on grinding out and hoping next season it’s back to normal away days at Stockport, York etc. The first XI have had a week off and did the business up the road against far tougher opppsotin last Saturday so sure it’ll be another 3 points on Saturday. Shaw Lane vs Warrington on Saturday too so all the more important we get the win.

I resisted the temptation to stay overnight in Derby. It's one of the best places in England for real ale aficionados.

Having been to the Don Amott Arena before, I can confirm it does have an open side, shared with the cricket ground, and also that there are some very good pubs in Derby, although the ones near the station and therefore Pride Park may be packed out. Mickleover have come a long way in the last future years, but have lost more than they have won at home, so we should reasonably hope to win, without being arrogant about it.

Don Amott, who is the club chairman (and gives his name to the ground, which I hope gives nobody else any ideas),  is the "king of caravans" and has been responsible for some top quality TV adverts back in the day.

A real battle against a very physical side.

A little tense at the end but a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Loving watching Alty at the moment.

Hard fought win. Should have put in beyond on doubt in the 2nd half. But we dug deep and put bodies on the line. 3 points are massive considering the Shaw Lane result.

Was a bit puzzled why Hannigan came off. And I think I'd have replaced Harrop with Sheridan especially with the early yellow card.

I've got used to winning 4 - 0 every week. The pitch played a part as did their number 8. He would be a useful guy to have in the league above. I felt we went off the boil in the second half which is a bit worrying. We were hanging on at the end.

They were a decent outfit and what they lacked in skill they made up for in effort. It was like the Alamo after they scored. Three very important points.

Next week could be the key to our season.

That was about the right score. They put us under the pump 2nd half but clearly sides are raising their game against us now. Our two goals were expertly taken I have to say. You wonder how sides at this level keep going-maybe 150 Home fans. Like at Sutton Coldfield we had more there then the home team. Next Saturday is huge.

Agreed. They were a decent, and physically a very strong team, who finished the stronger. Quite a contrast to the defeat at nearby Alfreton last season. We owe a debt to Jordan Hulme for his alertness which resulted in the goal, and was also apparent at other times.

Don Amott surely deserves some sort of award for managing to include Napoleon, the Great Fire of London, President Woodrow Wilson and Britney Spears all in the same programme notes. :o

Valuable three points against one of the most muscular sides I think I have ever seen us play.  Great to see us win a battle when it was needed. Wasn't pretty when they threw everyone up at the end.

I hope they try that hard against every team they play.

Our inability to deal with balls pumped into the box for the final 10 mins wasn’t easy to watch. But it shouldn’t take away from what was an otherwise regulation away win.
Totally dominant first half, and then not much happened in the 2nd half until we had a wobble, when they threw the fat centre half up front and Hannigan went off. But we were fairly comfortable otherwise.

As far as you can enjoy the indignity of playing league games at places like Mickleover Sports, I thought they’ve got a pretty decent set up down there for what they need it for.
