Title: Warrington Match Thread 4
Post by: robininstockport on January 24, 2018, 12:31:12 PM
Assuming Hannigan is the only absentee.

              Thompson

Densmore Harrison Jones Hampson

            Moult  Richman

  Johnson Poole Hancock

                  Hulme

Alty 2-0 Warrington. Hulme Hancock
Attn 785.

Massive game. With Shaw Lane playing Ashton, Saturday could well be pivotal.

My biggest concern is the pitch.

Ridiculous amount of water fell again this morning. Due to be sunny all day Friday but I suppose it depends what falls between now and then

So, was it the challenge at Farce that caused Hannigans injury? It sounded like a bad challenge.

The team goes without saying.

I am surprised we haven't had a bit of an update about the pitch or any work being done on it in the last month.

It should have drained but more rain throughout the week is the forecast, so I am hoping covers are being borrowed as this is another potential money maker with neither United or City playing.

I appreciate sometimes water can't be shifted or filtered away but a month is plenty of time to work on it.

Ashton a bigger worry now, seem to have come from nowhere and we play them twice yet

Indeed - not lost in the league since going down by the only goal at Stafford on October 14th. Let's see what happens when they visit Shaw Lane on Saturday.

I know momentum is huge, but we saw off there first team (win one enforced change) with our reserves in the cup. We should have too much for them.

I really want the game to be on this weekend. It's a shame the sprinklers can't be used in reverse to drain the pitch.

Good news the pitch is being worked on again, it was last week also.

Did we purchase any covers after the visit from the manufacturer?

Team wise, go as others say, Need Richman in there in my opinion as the game changed at Stafford when he came on.

Said it before, we can beat anyone on our day and recent form is Very good so on wards and upwards. Its our own destiny to make.

I just hope they call it off in good time nice and early, not leaving it to the last minute like those twits at Stourbridge

Should call it tomorrow afternoon imo

With the forecast being good for today but rain due in the morning are we going to attempt to cover the problem corner near the golf road end overnight after a days dryness?

If it were a team travelling distance maybe - but theyre only 25 minutes down the road !  Unless its obviously not playable I'd leave it up to the ref to call at 1:30.

Agreed, leave it as late as possible. I've just sent a request for info on the pitch.

I hear they are optimistic about tomorrow even with the rain that’s forecast, most of the water over the last few weeks has receded or been removed from the pitch and the worst bit has covers on. So fingers crossed and many thanks to those that have worked on the pitch during such trying conditions

The pitch is looking good at the moment and it is drying out well after all the rain we've had.

Manchester United have verti drained the pitch, putting drainage holes over the whole surface.

We have borrowed 2 large sheets from Lancashire CCC- to cover the worse areas and protect them from further rainfall. These will remain on those areas until at least 12 noon tomorrow - after the worst rain has passed.

The referee is calling in at 11am for a precautionary look at the pitch.

Big thanks to all concerned in getting the pitch sorted.Much as I want this game on I do hope it doesn't put players at risk and be a farce as our last home game was.

the weather doesn't look great for WA15 tomorrow morning, lets hope the covers and verti draining has done enough to get the game on. thanks must go to MUFC & LCCC for the assistance and use of equipment..

I hope we get after Warrington from the off tomorrow, if we can get an early goal I fancy our chances to win this...

3-1 Alty

0-1 at half time....not good enough..

Thommo to blame for goal...warrington spent the next 25 mins wasting time..the only thing this petulant ref doesnt seem to mind

Hope they get a rocket at half time fannying around sideways and backwards get the f $#@er forwards and we look dangdrous..

Hmmm....possibly heading our way again in the Cheshire Senior Cup Quarter-Final (and, God forbid, the Evo-Stik League play-offs!).

Got away with that one today...and fortunate with Shaw Lane drawing
A few interesting points, one of the other threads on the board mentions Poole, I’m not sure he influences the game as much as he did earlier in the season, when Harrow came on, he was trying to pass the ball around and that made a difference.
We had our best spell of the game after Moult went off is it time to give him a rest?
I think Miller did look hungry when he came on, it may be time to give him a chance.
After the Witton game and today, it may be time for a change to keep the team fresh

Thommo to blame for goal.

Perhaps a slightly harsh assessment - seemed to be deflected. I await Alty TV before making my mind up.

Their goal was definitely a sliced effort, whether it was deflected or not, I think it wrong footed TT but Alty TV will confirm. That was their only shot on target of the game.

We didn’t deserve to win, though, and laboured to a draw against a team that has repeatedly had our number. Not much you can say when we’ve come away with a point after sticking to our guns, but this reluctance to change to a plan B is surely going to get us into trouble at some stage. It’s quite apparent that we need a second striker option on the bench, I know Amis is out but what’s the crack with Omotola?

There would have been no complaints from me if we’d have lost that 0-1. We can, and will play better. That goal probably won us the league.

PS: 1419 was a fantastic turn out, good to see a great reception for the £5 offer and that was absolute carnage on the GRE when we equalised. Missed that so much.

Sorry Andrew, from where I was sat we deserved a draw. Listening to the smug Warrington fans in the main stand until we scored was frustrating. Fantastic when we scored and wiped those smug smiles away.

i agree, we could do with a striker on the bench and a better plan B, Thought PP made the right call in bringing on Harrop. I reckon we had over 75% of the play second half and eventually got our goal and it was deserved against a dogged Warrington team.

There’s no doubt at all that we had the better of the second half. I’m just saying I don’t think we really created that much in the way of chances to determine that we *deserved* anything. Warrington put in a cracking away performance on us.

Agree with all that Andrew Flynn says above, we definitely need a plan b, Jordan has been great but when it's not his day we need something different.

City / United season ticket deal definitely worked, had 3 with me who loved that 90th minute goal, should have that offer for every home game.

Man for man we have a better 11 than Wazza, they're well coached and have done well to get 2 points off us this season. Hope they go up via the playoffs as it's the only Alty away game Ive been able to walk to. Looking forward to see what Shaw Lane are about.
