Title: Buxton Match Thread
Post by: JTH on February 07, 2018, 10:41:42 AM
Here's your starter for ten, Twitter reports Buxton have sacked their manager this morning. Evidently he was more than miffed he didn't get the job here.

It’s on the Buxton FC website too.

They haven't won in the League since December 30th, when Liam Hardy scored a hat trick at struggling Halesowen.

Hardy's only two goals in 2018 have both been penalties.

All the omens are worrying. Unless they appoint Matt Doughty.

Buxton 3/1
Draw 11/4
Alty 4/6

Surely he has been snapped up by now. Didn't his wife tell us on Twitter what a great manager he is?

...and to think that him managing us this season was a very, very real possibility.

Assuming the worse and Jones, Hannigan and Johnson are unavailable.

                       Thompson

Densmore Moult Harrison Hampson

                Richman.    Harrop

         Peers.  Poole.  Hancock.

                       Hulme

Big of a re-jig but should be strong enough to get a positive result

Buxton 0-1 Alty.  Poole

I like to see Walsh recalled aswel. Think he'd make more of an impact off the bench than Miller

Alty 4/6 to win on Saturday. Form an orderly queue at that price.

                             Thompson

Densmore     Harrison      Hampson      White

                      Moult          Harrop

      Miller                 Poole           Hancock

                               Hulme

Hopefully Jones is fit, but in the event he isn’t, expect to see that back four IMO.

I think I agree with robininstockport, I think I'd prefer to have Moult at the back with Richman coming into the midfield and Hampson staying where he is strongest.

Post by: One Foot in the Grave on February 08, 2018, 11:19:31 AM
If we're forced to play Hampson in the middle of the back four, I'd want Moult and Richman in front of there, with Harrop further forward at the expense of Miller.

Moult at CB if jones or hannigan are not available. I’d probably be thinking about recalling mason Walsh if JJ is going to be missing for any length of time

Unfortunately, Mason Walsh got sent off for Hednesford on Tuesday, apparently for elbows, so will be out for three games, I expect.
I would agree about Moult as the emergency centre back.

Definitely Moult at cb. Shame about Mason Walsh - that would have been a good option up front.
Hopefully Hannigan will be back for Tuesday.

Chester have just released John McCombe, ex Macc centre half - get him here on a month's contract!

Agree with this team if Jones and JJ remain injured.

It's over 50 years since I've seen us play at Buxton and can't say I've ever seen any signs for the ground when I've visited the town. Any tips on where the ground is from the town centre?

Buxton's website gives directions by road. As I recall it's less than 15 minutes on foot from the town centre but the last time I went to the Silverlands was nearly 30 years ago so I don't recall the route!

the ground is opposite the police station, so you could ask directions to the cop shop ?

No, there are no signs from the town centre so if you’re using the website directions, please note that the reference to “Safeway roundabout” should be “Morrison’s roundabout”. (That’s for car travellers. If you’re on foot you won’t go near that roundabout)

Brixton memories  for the older folk . any one else who was on the coach that got bricked ? do you remember the big big FA trophy game that was called off in the early 70's we had a special train booked but it snowed . imagine that these days a whole train just for the match !!! did we play telford in just about our first game against southern opposition ? or are these just the ramblings of an old man?

Gazelle. Your memory does not let you down. We beat Telford in a Replay to travel to Buxton. It was a huge win. They had been to Wembley twice in the trophy (it was only the fourth season or something like that). We had won one match. And we were 2-0 down at the Bucks Head too

I went by coach, but I believe there was a special train too. Game was postponed on the Saturday. Played the following midweek with over 2000 in attendance. I had been to Silverlands earlier that season for the FA Cup march - my first ever Alty game on the coach

Bill,

Prior to their encounter with Alty on Saturday, 2nd December 1972, Telford United’s record in the FA Trophy read as follows: played: 22; won: 16; drawn: four; lost: two; goals scored: 57 and goals conceded: 21.

All of which was in marked contrast to the Robins' underwhelming showing in the FA Trophy since its inception for the 1969/70 season: played: seven; won: two; drawn: two; lost: three; goals scored: 11 and goals conceded: 12.

Buxton were also our first ever opponents in the FA Trophy back in December 1969.

I was in the buxton vicinity pretty last night. No snow in the vicinity and 5 degrees. It was smashing it down though and the wind was wild.

The live webcam of market square is here, looks wet but nothing out of the ordinary

They’ll be keen to get it on for our ££. Can’t make it myself but I’d guess we’ll take 200-250 what with it being so easy on the trains.

Pitch inspection tomorrow at 10am. Rain / Sleet forecast all day tomorrow, that looks like an early PP by a local ref to me.

Which will be slated as a farce on here. As would a late PP.

Really awkward inspection because the ideal train leaves Piccadilly at 10:49. No way we can wait for the decision and make it to the station in time from Timperley. Looks like we'll be heading to town on the chance that they manage to get it on.

I live in Buxton and the wind is drying my lawn nicely. The forecast is light rain from noon tomorrow, with temperatures reaching the dizzy heights of 6 degrees during the match, so I forecast that at kick- off, the pitch will be playable. But an inspection at 10am is way too early and could result in a postponement. Can I start my slating yet?😂
Cheers

I think they're setting themselves up for a fall if they declare the game ON at 10am - a lot of rainfall due between then and KO (on top of a frozen pitch overnight).

Can't see the game being on to be honest. Sorry.
