Title: Player of the Half Season
Post by: andrewflynn on January 07, 2019, 02:01:16 PM
1, 2 and 3. Who've you got?

1. Tom Hannigan. Almost ever present, hasn't put a foot wrong and is bringing the best out of James Jones, too. It's the Tom we've been waiting for.
2. Jake Moult. Some fantastic performances this season especially away from home, Brackley being the pinnacle.
3. Josh Hancock. Superb since coming back into the side, to the point where it's a worry we may not be able to keep him come the end of the season.

1. Jake Moult for me, been an inspirational skipper with some outstanding performances. I think he has benefited from not being moved around this season, or covering in the back 4 as he has in the past. Improving with age...he wins header after header despite not being the tallest in the middle of the park. Long range passing has improved too, complete midfielder at this level.

2. Tom Hannigan....a long run of good fitness has shown him to the guy we bought from Fylde. A warrior at the back, makes very few mistakes. Has marshalled the back 4 all season and contender with Jake for player of the season for me.

3. Jordan Hulme. Can frustrate at times, particularly with the string of silly bookings mainly for dissent culminating in suspension. However, a great leader of our line..the focal point of our attack and a great return of goals. He carries the load up front mainly on his own, works his ass off game after game and has lots of assists to go with his goals. A real character too.

A good thread.

1. Tom Hannigan (masterclass of a defender).
2. Jake Moult (the partnership with Si is invaluable).
3. Andy White

The latter two have proven me well and truly wrong.

The great thing about this team is that there are so many MoM contenders from front to back, in every game .

When I started typing this note, no-one had mentioned Connor; James Jones has been an outstanding young centre back; Ringo has run himself into the ground and curbed his yellow card count; Max has made a strong contribution to games; no-one has mentioned JJ; the two loanees Owen and Ash have both made contributions...

Every game I think "which player is going to make the difference today?  And generally we don't know for sure but week in, week out someone steps up

Everyone seems to do what they are supposed to do to the best of their ability. Everyone is making themselves available off the ball all the time.

Such a contrast with the situation two years ago when almost no-one wanted the ball. It's great having a stable team rather than the revolving door scenario of the relegation years.

I'm going to go for Moult just because he's team leader and I feel I ought to chose someone.

1)Hannigan -solid every week
2) Hancock - said it last season, more influential in games than Poole and very much proving this each week.
3) White - at times last season I never thought I'd see the day  but he is defo the most improved player from last season.

Very hard to leave Moult out. I actually thought most games would be too quick for him this season but a lot of teams go long and he keeps winning those headers.

Very true. It is a great time to support the club.

1. Andy White
2. Tom Hannigan
3. Jordan Hulme.

As most people have said, there are so many equally deserving candidates.

1. Jake Moult ... at times drags the team kicking and screaming into playing
2. Tom Hannigan ... oozes class
3. Andy White ... proved how good he is taking over from densmore at right back , can do a job at left back and along with jones the most improved player in the team

special mention to jones and hancock who have both surprised me in stepping up and looking like they can take it further.

Wow. Very hard (in good way).

Hancock and Jones will be playing at least 1 division higher no matter if we go up or not so I'm not including them.

1- Moult
2- Hannigan
3- Hulme

White
Hannigan
Jones

All defenders granted, but our back four is the rock this team is built on. Sure we make mistakes, but not as many as some other teams.

1.   Hannigan: For me, he stands head and shoulders above everyone else as our most naturally gifted footballer. Finally getting a chance to show what he’s all about since we got a proper physio in. Which is clearly no coincidence.

2.   Daylight

3.   Moult: His re-emergence as a proper midfielder has been as spectacular, sudden and surprising as his decline was a couple of seasons ago. Let’s just hope he never has to go back to Colchester.

With an honourable mention for Owen Dale who, in 3 months, turned us from midtable inconsistency to touching distance of top spot. There has been a noticeable turn in our fortunes since he returned to Crewe.

When Hannigan suffered his original injury the rehab he received was very poor. This was compounded by the various  management teams in 2016/17 persuading him to play when nowhere near fit,  no doubt desperate to save their jobs. It was no surprise that he broke down again and suffered other related injuries. It was only once Parkinson took over that he was sent for a scan which diagnosed muscle wastage around the knee but no long term problem. Now restored to full fitness after playing about 40 games since the business end of last season.

The whole team for me,.. they all deserve credit for proving that they ARE good enough at this level,.. I suppose the question is are they good enough to get us promoted?

Doesn't surprise me, this. One of the biggest turnarounds at the football club over the past year and a half has been our approach to fitness. Tommy and Ryan deserve a lot of credit for the work they've done and continue to do.

Hannigan was the only to suffer at the hands of our previous medical department, Densmore, Clee and Reeves are certainly on the list.
