Title: York City - Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on November 04, 2019, 12:47:40 PM
If you Are travelling to york by train on Sunday then remember there will be no metrolink services travelling through St Peters Square between 10:15 and 12:30 due to the remembrance service at the cenotaph. Anyone using the tram after that time will have to get off at deansgate- Castlefield. All direct York services call at the airport, Piccadilly, Oxford road and Victoria. So Oxford road is easily  walkable from deansgate-Castlefield if coming through later than 10:15 but most should be through by then for for 1245 kickoff

York 8/13
Draw 31/10
Alty 4/1

A tough assignment but we can get a result at bootham Crescent, we know we are capable enough. Despite the BBC trying their best to ruin the tie, I’d hope everyone who can travel does do, the lads will need our backing and these first round ties don’t come along to often. So if you can get to York, then get yourselves over rather than opting for patchy updates on the television, the lads need you.

Yes, we all know the kick off time not ideal but it’s a very big game for the club & hopefully a few hundred of us at least still make it.

Whilst they are still unbeaten it’s worth noting Farsley, Guiseley & Southport amongst others have taken a point off York this season so getting them back to Moss Lane is a realistic target I’d say. We were also full value with 250 away fans for our win there back in March so it’s a ground this team knows how to win at.

Looking forward to a big tie and then a few beers round York after. Come on Alty!

Gutted to be missing this, but I'm working 8-3 on Sunday. Will have to rely on the BBC - not a very dependable option.

Big decisions to made in a big game. Flat back 4 or 3 with wing backs, Williams or Richman, 2 from Ceesay, Hulme and Peers?

As I can't make I'd love a draw. If we're in the hat on Monday it will have been a good day.

York 1-1 Alty. Hulme

I wouldn't want a draw. If this is going to be won it needs doing on the day.

Flat back 4 of Dens, Jones, Hannigan and White. Moult sweeping as he does.

If Ceesay is pain free with his hamstring I would start him. Maybe start Peers on the right over JJ. Simply because he is much stronger and they are a physically fit team.

As all the games I think we should get at them. A back 3 may invite on pressure.....

Hancock behind Hulme.

also have two on mcnulty wherever possible. even he can't get his arm across two people at once.

I'd imagine PP would go with the same team that started at KL. There is definitely a case for Ceesay starting instead of JJ though, given the extra physicality York will bring. Does anybody know if Wall will be available for this game?

I think there'll be more Alty fans at this game than people imagine.

I would assume so. It looks like he only joined Witton after they had been knocked out of the Cup by Belper Town.

Luke Wall played for Curzon against Blyth in the cup, and so will not be available.

So he did. I knew he was at Curzon last season, but hadn't realised he started this season there.

Would be happy with a draw and in the hat Monday.

Tougher than Barnsley at home, but not as tough as our Misfits going to Lincoln and nearly grabbing a draw.

Should be a mega tie.

We should lose. They are unbeaten in God knows how long. But, d'you know - we're just the sort of team who can do them and it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

We drew at Kings Lynn and Guiseley. We've beaten Chester and Southport.
In August Moult was hospitalised, Ceesay wasn't around and Hulme wasn't scoring.

It's different now. I'm optimistic and I'll be there.

6 of us getting the train up.

People should make the effort.

FA Cup 1st round doesn't come around that often.

Just hoping we don't play defensive and drive at them.

Hendo (who many will know lives in York) advises that York’s pitch generally drains well & there’s been no postponement chat locally. There’s also no rain after this afternoon in York before kick off so 48 hours for everything to dry out, I don’t think it will be an issue, only slight issue coming from the South is our train goes via Donny but its only the local services that have been affected & not the EC Mainline I believe.

Just a heads up for those that are driving. It's Remembrance Sunday and there's always a large service at The Minster which is only a 10 min walk from the ground (that's how I describe it tourists). The centre of York will be closed from 10 ish til about 1, so it'll be heavy traffic - expect delays and give yourself plenty of  extra time to get there.

I respectfully disagree. The observation of a minute's silence beforehand is the correct way to remember the sacrifice that so many made to ensure that we had the freedom to lead our lives without fear. To then play a sporting fixture is an illustration of those freedoms. May we never take them for granted.

.....the coverage from the BBC for our game was awful, about 10 seconds after we won the game. Interviews and highlights from all the other games. Plus the pundits all talking about York at the start, as if they had won the game already.

Terrible coverage by the BBC. Written off in opening gambit and didn't announce the result til about 2-55.

Hss Ceesay done his hamstring or is it a fresh injury does anyone know? Gutted for him whichever

Don't forget there's still the highlights show at 5.15. Sounds like they were recording interviews with Peers and Thompson. The point of the live show was to cover happenings as they happened, and that what they did. They showed the penalty live, covered the goal, and had a handful of other reports. But then again it wouldn't be Alty without finding something to moan about.

The coverage on the BBC was exactly what I expected - the 5.15 show (BBC2) will show us off better. When TT saved the pen I opened the microphone up and shouted "Yes Thommo !" for Hash's benefit - I'm not sure what the other drivers made of it  :D

There was something quite rightly to moan about.

They didn't announce full time ffs. Interviews with others and an update from Wolves were more important than telling the viewers a final score?.

Defend the indefensible if you like but you're on your own.

If you want the latest from Wolves you are on the wrong channel

Absolute rubbish from the BBC - I was prepared to accept minimalism while the game was live, but the later show was a disgrace. We've just punched above our weight, and ended a 19 match unbeaten run by an unarguably bigger club, yet more coverage is given to Gateshead and Chippenham who produced lesser results.

I now have a dilemma - I've missed all three away games in this cup run. If we're on our travels again in Round 2, do I stay away again on superstitious grounds ? Home draw please - Chichester or Kingstonian please !

To be fair to the BBC, they're not exactly on the same level as Alty TV ;).
Seriously though, and from a journalistic angle, their early round coverage is all about giant killing - non-league team beats league team - so an all National League North tie is lower in their agenda. A good draw next round and they'll be all over us. At the end of the day they gave us £12K+(https://www.altrinchamfc.com/news/york-city-v-altrincham-selected-for-bbc-emirates-f-a-cup-live-highlights-programme) for that so that's about £4K a clip!!

Having watched all the footage there is (Full Time Robins by far the best), softest pen ever, what a ball from Moult to Hulme for the goal.

Definitely need songs for Jones and Hannigan and what a very young fan base we have.
