Title: Woking Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on March 01, 2021, 08:44:38 AM
Changes are certain after the PP interview and I'd start  by going 4-3-3.

                              Thompson

Senior    Malarkey       ?           ?

                Smith    Moult    Williams

           ?      Hardy      Ceesay

Let the front 3 interchange. It would certainly throw Woking if we changed formation

Alty 2-1 Woking  (hardy, ?)

Following on from the Parky interview, its going to be interesting what team he puts out. Hopefully a few players back from injury such as Josh.

Colclough out.
Assuming Hampson and White are injured
Mooney and Piggott not quite fit to start.
I would go...

TT

LB Senior
RB Dens
CB Hannigan
CB Malarkey

DM Moult or Richman ( they are a quick team )
CM Smith

LW Ceesay
RW Kossy

No.10/ST  Have Hanks and Hardy switching throughout

Yep, agree with oneedham as well... good shout for line up...

If doesn't go with that predicted team, alternative is trying to fit in Williams... and maybe change formation to 4,3,3...

Agree that may not risk starting Mooney with his injury record so can see him on bench (along with Piggott)... assume Connor/White maybe unfit & Colclough defo out...

Hence, think two possible ways forward for Tues...

                  4,2,3,1 LineUp:
                             TT
Senior/Mullarkey/Hannigan/Dens
                   Moult/Smith
         Kosylo/Hancock/Ceesay
                          Hardy

Subs: Richman, Sutton, Williams, Mooney, Piggott

                    4,3,3 LineUp:
                             TT
Senior/Mullarkey/Hannigan/Dens
             Moult/Williams/Smith
           Kosylo/Hancock/Ceesay

Subs: Richman, Sutton, Mooney, Piggott, Hardy (or Peers for one of Piggott/Hardy if both not fully fit)...

Wonder if Parky could even go for two new Centre Backs and maybe start with Mullarkey & Richman in role (ie drop both Hannigan along with Sutton or bring in a CB on loan)... will he even give Gould a start instead of TT if wants to totally shake up defence? Though in TT defence he aint really been at fault it's been the defence in front of him...

Who knows? Guess we'll see tomorrow eve... COYR!

Predict (hopefully) a win... Alty 2-1 (Hancock 2)...

Possibilities: if either lb is fit have Dens replace Senior at rb  for experience
Moult at cb?
Pending Hancock fitness William's at No10? Or starting with Smith if Moult at cb? (Parkie seems keen to get him back)
If William's No10, maybe Hancock No9?
Gould given a start? (I dont know if TT is a shouter at defenders, maybe Gould is)

Well, Parky has kept his word & gone out to do something to shake team & defence up with three young loanee signings all in early 20s... a striker, a full back, & a centre back (centre back is younger bro of Chelsea & France centre back Kurt Zouma)...

https://www.altrinchamfc.com/news/phils-as-good-as-his-word-with-three-loan-signings

Team tomorrow eve could be really shaken up... possibly...

            TT (or even Gould)
Dens   Mullarkey   Zouma   Ogle
                 Moult   Smith
     Kosylo    Hancock    Ceesay
                      Gibson

Subs- 5 from: Senior, Hannigan, Williams, Richman, Mooney, Hardy, Piggott, Peers...

Will be interesting to watch tomorrow to see if starts all three loanees... lets hope for a reaction... COYR!

Will take any win... fingers crossed!!!

Should be a good game

Alty 3-1 Woking

That was an outstanding perfomance with ten men.

All loanees were good.

Colclough, Kossy, Smith and Senior were at their best.

Peers came on and gave so much. His work rate and assist made up for the missed opportunities.

And absolutely buzzing that TT has shut me up this week with two outstanding waves. Get in lad.

Proper happy with that display. Well done lads.

TT double save at end outstanding!!!

Great team effort. TT world class saves at the end. I do knock TT re his kicking occasionally but his shot stopping ability is superb. The new lads did well considering 36 hours they weren’t at the club. We have a good squad if the injuries didn’t keep occurring we would be a definite top ten team in this league.

Well done to all, Onwards & Upwards.

Superb effort from 10 men (and subs) to come away with the 3 points and end the bad run we've been on. Well done to Parky and Sorvs on acting decisively - the new loanees all had decent games, showed great energy and should create a lot more competition for places.

Didn't see the red card (who did with the stream down?), so don't know if it can be appealed, sounded odd from the commentary.
Tony T's 2 late saves had me applauding in my own front room, deffo saved us the win there.

From what I can gather he got the ball, which rebounded, before (or if) the man!
I hope we can appeal, Hannigan has been a rock this season.

Great effort from all, it was helped by a woeful Woking team that only started playing at one down, but the sheer effort from everyone in Red who got on the pitch for that last 20 was commendable, especially after recent results.
Stream also woeful.

It's a strange feeling tonight as, with the problems with the stream, I missed crucial incidents such as the sending off and the goal, although I did see Jonte Smith's miss, and I had given up on it entirely for the last few minutes so I didn't see some wonderful saves by Tony Tnompson, so I feel I can't really comment on the game.
However, it was clearly a performance which showed lots of courage and character, when, especially with the recent poor run, heads could so easily have dropped down after the sending off.

Off the bits I saw due to the stream issue and the commentary I heard in the absence if pictures, I was very impressed by Zouma, impressed by Ogle and, I'm afraid somewhat underwhelmed by the striker.
Too often he gave it away or ran down blind alleys with it and on occasion declined clear shooting opportunities.

Assuming he plays next Tuesday and the gremlins leave us alone I will be happy to revise my opinions

He’s a boy that a higher league club saw enough to invest in from two leagues below this. He needs confidence and support right now.

Didn't look like we had 10 men for that 2nd half.

We've got to take our chances, that should have been 2 if not 3-0.

Great run by Hardy, but Peers has to work the keeper. And the one that came across goal for Peers has to be a simple tap in

But credit to Peers, I do enjoy his concentrated efforts from. 20 minutes off the bench and a perfect ball To Kosylo

The team and management deserve a lot of credit for their performance last night, particularly given the sending off, which I hope may be available to watch on the highlights.  The new lads fitted in well, and there was grit shown by our players all over the pitch.  Smith, again, was a colossus, and the new defender helped bolster the back four which looked far more assured, particularly when dealing with the aerial bombardment that Woking delivered in the final third.  One concern, I thought TT's kicking was shaky for the first time in a while, but I'll forgive him that given the outstanding saves he pulled off at the end (there were others too earlier in the game).  Finally, a special mention to Tom Peers who, as has already been said on a thread elsewhere, put in a 90-minute performance in the 20 or so that he was on the field.  At one point the commentators sounded as though there were reading from a Python script: "And it's Peers on the ball, he goes round a man before passing to Peers on his right who then crosses the ball over to Peers who was calling for it in the middle.  He heads it down to Peers who had made a run from the edge of the box....." etc.  Super performance, well deserved result. #coyr

Super performance by everyone in the second half. Difficult to comment on the first half without a stream. A few more like that will put us back in contension.

What a shame we've got Saturday off. May be a chance to integrate the new lads fully and go again next week.

I'm not doubting he has ability and I accept that he is young and that it was his first game for us.

However, particularly when down to ten, you need your line striker to keep possession, allow those behind him to move upfield a bit and relieve the pressure.
Perhaps that's not his standpoint?
Getting hold of it, keeping it and linking the play are pre requisites in that scenario. If you can't do that, get hold and head for touchline and corners.
Anyway, good result.
Sorry if a bit negative

Did he come on and go off again when the stream was off for 20 mins or have I missed something?

Peers was brilliant when he came on

TT proved me wrong. I was calling for Gould to be given a chance but what a double save at the end.

Can't be negative about Peers regarding last night's performance.

After his tremendous, sweeping ball out to the left wing he then set up the goal very nicely and that was just the start of a decent performance.

I thought Gibson caused a lot of issues in the opposition defence and showed a great deal of promise. He seems to like running at defences and they do not like that. A bit of luck and he could have scored or created a goal.

Just seen the highlights .

Hannigans' red, dreadful backpass from Gibson, very tough to tell if its a foul or not. Doubt there's enough evidence to appeal it.

Very well worked goal helped by their 7' defender falling over.

Superb from Thompson.

Gutted no game Saturday

Just spotted that the full Alty TV highlights are now available and they help clear up both the disallowed goal and the red card - I'd say the officials got both decisions correct.

Jake is clearly onside for the goal, I don't understand how it could be interpreted differently. The red card however I agree, he mis hits the ball with his left and takes the man down with his right

Hannigan is in an offside position when the kick is taken and he tries to win the ball, so it's offside.

I hope the red card appeal didn't cost us any money, because it looked pretty clear to me.

The commentary team could do better to be less emotive and more impartial in situations like that - I understand that it might be hard 'in the moment', but I've seen other commentary teams manage it quite well.

There is a cost associated for an appeal.
