Title: Yeovil Match thread
Post by: Alty Dave on March 30, 2021, 04:13:35 PM
This games coming up quickly, as is Friday at 3pm.

I assume barring injuries will go with the same starting 11. I for one would.

Defo same 11, hopefully Kosylo will make the bench.

Think yeovil have accumulated the most points in 2021 in the division.

Yeovil away was our worse performance of the season.

Alty 1-1 Yeovil.

I would have gone for a draw in this one if we hadn't played so poorly at their place.

I've got a sneaky feeling the team will want to redeem themselves and put even more (if possible) into getting all three points. Going for an odd goal victory with an extremely tense last quarter.

Really? I must admit I thought they were on solid form but I've just taken a look and it seems... OK.

I watched the highlights of the Barnet game at the weekend, they looked good but then again it's Barnet.

Happy to take a point and move on, but let's wait and see.

Yep, agree, surely start with same starting XI as last game, with Kosylo hopefully making the bench...

Predict Alty win... 1-0 (Hancock)...

COYR!

After conceding inside 10 minutes, we win it in the last 5 minutes (plus added time) with a goal by Hardy and a last ditch Hancock penalty.

Sorry to spoil the story, but are we sure this is the same Newton Heath?

The Newton Heath FC who had grown out of the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway were in the  League Second Division, where they had games on the 1st, 3rd and 4th April 1899. Their reserves were in the Lancashire Combination, but we might have played them in the Manchester Senior Cup or something, I suppose.

However, Newton Heath Athletic, who were from the Motive Power department at Newton Heath Loco Works were in the Manchester League alongside Broadheath, (as we then were) so they seem much more likely opponents. They played on, as Newton Heath Loco, at Ceylon Street, just off Oldham Road, which was still there until around 2007 or 2008, when it was lost for housing. People sometimes say, because of the confusion between the two clubs, that this was Manchester United's first ground.

6-0 was a very good win, even so, as Newton Heath Athletic were Manchester League champions, with Broadheath finishing third.

When is the Yeovil stream going to be available?

I've just realised that this game can be rearranged for Saturday May 22nd. We rearranged our fixture with Wealdstone originally scheduled for that date, and Yeovil were due to play Macclesfield.

I wonder if we might be able to have fans ?

Actually, it was us who were due to play Macclesfield on 22nd May, while Yeovil were down to play Dover, but the same principle applies.

As I have discussed offline, although it might seem unfair  to some that we get two home games with fans allowed at the end of the season, other clubs have already have fans present mid-season, so I see no reason why we can't, as it is after the government's step when fans are allowed at elite matches.

just buy a high vis jacket and become a steward and watch every game

Think playing on May 22nd would be ideal as like stated above both teams have weekend free (us meant to play Macc, them meant to play Dover), plus playing on a Sat would be better for Yeovil for travel reasons as opposed to a midweek eve match with late return home...

Yes, we would benefit from fans (even if just nominal amount like say 600) as after govt's May17 date... this may however be a reason Yeovil may not want that date as may think we'll have an advantage if fans present (as probably just home fans)... however, the advantages of a Saturday date mean this possibility looks a realistic way forward...

Lets hope it does happen and we get two games at end of season with fans (play Torquay May29)... fingers crossed!

i would suggest that by that stage of the season it's just a case of both teams ticking off the games, so it really doesn't matter if there is some advantage to Altrincham having 600 fans there.

Any club complaining about fans being at a game would be making a PR error.

Do you need more stewards for a game behind closed doors or less? Just asking.

Yes as each area of the ground would have been split into different zones and need monitoring i:e Main stand is a red zone for players and officials only. If you look closely at the Golf road end it seems to have barriers around the flags and on one of he last TV matches you saw and heard the stewards moving people from behind them.

That being the case I would imagine if we play a game this season with say 600 home fans in attendance, the stewarding requirements would have to be somewhat swelled in order to implement whatever protocols are in place.

I heard one of the Kings Lynn commentary team refer to the 30 day rule when postponed games are to be rearranged. I hope the FA can have a strong word with themselves and allow the Alty v Yeovil game to be played on 22 May, assuming both clubs are in agreement.

Wayno, give us a song, Wayno, Wayno, give us a song!

And let's loan some of the ground to be used as "gardens", like at Marine (v Spurs) - and let's get someone to put a shed half way up one of those houses behind the Chequers End while we're at it! ;)
