Just got the news that our old friend Noel White has resigned from the Liverpool Board.
Any chance of him coming back to Alty ?

I think he lives near Hale Golf Club, if anyone has a copy of David Conn's 'The Beautiful Game' to hand that should tell you were he lives.

To answer one question I believe he still lives in Hale, but not certain where. I thought he lived near Alty Grammar but I could be wrong. And to answer another question no I don't think he'll ever rejoin the board!
The Beautiful Game incidentally is a brilliant book. The chapter about Crewe is essential reading for any small club like oursleves.

To be honest i wouldnt want him anywhere near the club, ive heard 1st hand in the past that as far as he is concerned the keys to the club should have been thrown away a long time ago.

Noel used to live next to Alty grammer boys school,had many a cup of tea and sandwich in his kitchen as a teenager.

Noel White has been and remains one of the most open honest and honorable people in football. He is respected across Europe (though perhaps not by "el tel").
I'm sure he won't come back, one day we might just recapture the magic that he helped to create in the 60s and 70s.
He did right to speak his mind - and did right to step down.
A gentleman who has served football better than most - we should be honoured to retain our conection with him.
Who can forget his BBC TV interview when we failed to be elected to the league?

Noel was a great man, a fantastic servant to our club and somebody who we should all feel grateful to for his time with us.
He moved on to bigger things (like his, then, partner) and played a major part in founding the modern-day Alty.
I wish him good luck.

Noel still goes to Moss lane from time to time and donates raffle prizes and attends club and STAR functions. He came to Birmingham 20 and gave us items to raffle. He still lives in the area and as said, was responsible for many of the older fans memories of the successful temas we had many years agao and for the reputation Alty got in the FA Cup and other competitions.
Who can forget buying their first vinyl record at the old White and Swales shop on George Street/Shaws Road?

Ah, former Oxfordshire exile, but the big question is just what was the first vinyl record that you purchased in the White & Swales shop?
Duran Duran, perhaps?!
I think that most of my expendable income all those years ago either went to Discount Records on George Street or Gordons Records on Kingsway.....

My first record was, in fact,...........Heidi! It was a record that read a book with nice colourful pages with pictures of Heidi and tinkerbell rang her little bell to turn the pages - aaagh, how sweet?
I think my late Dad treated himself to Mantovanni's Greatest Hits while he was with me and my late Mum got herself a Freankie Vaughan's favourites!

I got one of those too....except it wasn't Heidi...it was The Jungle Book. On one side of the record was the story and on the other side two songs from the film....Bear Necessities and 'I wanna be like you' as immortalised in the Royle Family on Sunday night
As for my first record...I honestly can't remember but I bet I'd be horrified if I could.

Who remembers Streets Ahead, the little record shop on Lloyd Street right opposite where the new cinema is? They were only there a few years in the mid to late 70s and went when Sainsbury's was built. You could get some fairly obscure punk stuff there when no one else was stocking it.
What was the name of the other record shop half way down George Street with the pink carrier bags? Or was that Swales before it moved down to what was later to become Our Price?

This is definately non-football topic ;D but.........
I remember the shop on Lloyd Street, very friendly owners who used to let us listen to Northern Soul and gave us orange squash while waiting for the bus, the stop was right outside the shop and was known as "the terminus" after they stopped turning buses around at the top of Railway Stgreet, in front of what was Barclays Bank and is now Manhattans.
Dont remember pink carrier bags, surprised an unemployed coalminer allowed his vinyl to be placed into such a receptacle. However, I'm sure that Uncle Globnasty once told me a tale about something like this.
Also, large(ish) record section in Boots when it was where the posh frock shop is on George Street (upstairs right at the end beyond the glass ornaments which were perilously close to the edge of the counters and likely to get knocked by school bags).
There was even one place up on Kingsway, right hand side as you walked up, before the fur shop but after the employment bureau (shame it isn't there still for you, UC).
Remember the "bargain bin" at the old Co-op which almost faced the railway station - got a few classics there

The record shop on Kingsway was Gordons.
Bought lots of early stuff by The Human League there, in the days when they were a 'serious' electronic music ensemble and before Phil Oakey signed up those two talentless dancers as his backing vocalists!
Discount Records on George Street was also a good source of new wave/punk stuff in those far off days.

Oh god, I feel a sudden urge to whip out my vinyl......nothing better than coming home with that newly pressed vinyl, proper order and with decent sleeves for albums...none of your modern day namby-pamby CD sh*te. Gimme a raucous LP in a pink bag any day.

UC bringing back the memories with "Streets Ahead". I remember to it wasn't there long but long enough to introduce me to the Buzzcocks and I still have The Drones "Bone Idol" in the fold out sleeve that I got there.....spent plenty of pocket money in Gordons as well come to think of it! Discount Records used to have all those 7" sleeves and coloured vinyl/pic discs all over the walls as I recall. Good times!

Ah yes Sykes. The woman who worked in the there was a sort of Anne Nightingale/Jo Wiley lookeelikee which was probably a good marketing tactic for extracting pocket money from teenage boys.
I also remember DRIVING down George Street to collect a new "record player"(from Rumbelows I think) and loading it into the boot of my mum's Escort.
I am over 21.
