Title: Mansfield are docked four points
Post by: Jacko on October 06, 2008, 01:25:04 PM
From BBC, Mansfield are docked four points :o
Mansfield Town are docked four points after being found guilty of fielding at least one ineligible player in the opening two games of the season

Why only 4 points i thought you got done heavily for this sort of thing???

You normally lose the points you gained when the player played

This hearing was for players they had not registered properly in their first 2 games in which they took 4 points.

Tomorrow they have a seperate hearing about their striker Aaron O'Connor who was ineligible due to still (technically) being on contract at Grays. They earned 10 points in the games he played (including the opening 2 games).

If the verdict is the same again tomorrow they would face losing a further 6 points.

All a bit sillly really, I've never thought that these things should make a difference and it should be fines only. However, I suppose precedents have been set, even if they were ignored for Accy and Wimbledon.

Unlucky Stags

----------------

From ydays NLP (so could be bollox)

Mansfield face the first of their two hearings into player registration problems tomorrow, which could end with the Blue Square high-flyers being deducted points.
The Stags' new owners, led by chairman Andy Perry, will be at the Conference's HQ in Birmingham to present their case against a claim they hadn't faxed details of several new players in time for their first fixture at Ebbsfleet.
The following day they must answer a charge of breaching FA Rule C.1(i(i)), which states that a player under written contract may only play for the club for which he is registered.
Town played striker Aaron O'Connor in their first five games - and took ten points - when it is understood he was still under contract to Grays, who had taken up their option.
A Soho Square spokesman said: "Mansfield originally had until September 30 to come back. But due to the volume of information they've had to collate, they requested an extra seven days, which was granted."

So you play mansfield in the opening game and lose 1-0 and the goal is scored by the inellligble player.

No only should Mansfield lose the points but should the other team not be awarded the points.

All in all this is a farce purely for small time paperwork errors.

The League really should take a look at the laws and apply common sense.

Unlucky Mansfield seems to me that this is all a load of ******** and you get penalised by admin only.

However we also lost 18 points a few seasons back so i guess precedent has been made and they have to stick to it.

I think once you start awarding points to other teams you are in trouble. Oddly I think the goal sifference they will have accrued will still stand.  :-\

I agree, it just shows how daft the situation is to remove points gained during the matches.

It should be a fixed points penalty and a fine. A bit like the DVLA lol

My money's on them getting a fine at the second hearing and not getting a further points deduction.
