Title: Derby Day match thread
Post by: Paul Cain's Chip Pan on February 03, 2009, 06:28:46 PM
I am so up for this. Just wish I could be there, but good luck to all the lads tonight. Give it every last ounce of effort and play like we know you're capable of!

Hark now here, the Alty sing,
The Northwich ran away!
And we will fight forever more,
Because of derby day!

Well we barely had radio coverage against York last week but we muddled through!  :)

I have someone texting me from the game so I'll post updates as I get them.

I am so nervous.

Just hope we do the business tonight, it's going to be tough. We are well capable of winning but we must guard against complacency. Derby games are totally unpredicatable.

Or Madman Maamria as he likes to be known.  ;D

Coburn
Smith
McGregor
Young
Lane
Doughty
Hadfield
Lawton
Senior
Banim
Johnson

Subs

Ralph
O'Neill
Danylyk
Denham
Peyton

Senior, Banim and Johnson up front is a potentially mouthwatering lineup! Come on you reds!

Classic BBC

Correction - 6:56
The official flags James Smith offside. Ryan Clarke takes the free kick.

Correction - 6:56
The offside flag is raised against James Smith. Matthew Bailey restarts play with the free kick.

6:56
James Smith is caught offside. Indirect free kick taken by Jamie Stevens

I'm really not that bothered who took the kick - honest!

My mate at the game reckons about 1200, which is what I expected for a Tuesday night rearranged game.

Could have stuck 500 on that had it been New Year, but I suppose 2 x 1000+ gates on consecutive crap Tuesday nights is decent enough.

Just heard that we've not played well at all apart from a 10 min spell after the goal. We're apparently lucky to be winning.

The goal was just bizarre, keeper caught the ball but them seemed to just throw it on the ground on the goal line.

We're just hoofing it up to Dale who's stuggling against tall defenders.

Attacking the chequers end this half.

Someone bought me a bottle of Laphraig once, couldn't get along with that, tasted very funny.

My 40 year old Laophraig ran out a while back... can't even spell it never mind drink it! It was peaty light and wonderful.. an acquired taste though.
For heavens sake don't put the ginger ale in decent whisky, that's a crime.

BBC report

"Altrincham 1-0 Northwich
Jody Banim netted the only goal of the game as Altrincham recorded a victory over struggling neighbours Northwich.

Banim broke the deadlock when he converted from close range following Matthew Doughty`s free-kick.

Lee Elam wasted a chance for Northwich when he fired his shot straight at home goalkeeper Stuart Coburn from 12 yards.

Joel Byrom and Karl Murray went close for the visitors, while Banim forced a save from Northwich keeper Ryan Clarke with a stinging drive."

We like the highlighted bit!

Great result.
Sounds like we were second best for a lot of the game but settle for the result.

Have to say I hope Vics survive. I'd prefer to play them every season (and beat them of course) than Tamworth or Wimbledon. Can't see the fans being up for those games and I doubt we'd get 1200 on a cold Tuesday night for those either.

The defence this season has been top notch  ;D

I'm sure it will be fine

Indeed whisky does not age in the bottle, perfectly fine.

Last season it took us until our final home game to break the 40 point barrier and we finished the season on just 42 points. That we have almost surpassed this within 30 games is an absolute credit to all the players and management.

I would like to publicly offer my congratulations to all, whilst warning against complacency. The job is only half done.

Keep it up lads, you're doing brilliantly!

Don't get too carried away by the result - we were truly dire. Thank God for our two magnificent centre halves and poor Chris Senior who ran and ran all by himself all night long. If we play like that against Eastbourne, we will get turned over. I'm putting it down to us having several key players out, some of whom may be back for Saturday, but in truth, we had too much dross out there tonight and Vics were a country mile better than us. Fingers crossed that Johnson is okay and the 3 Ds are back, because we need them all.

Tonights performance was pretty poor, we didn't seem to be getting it to the strikers effectively, defence was great though, they kept us in the game. Northwich fans were piss poor, its only up the road its not as if its a hours drive.

Can I just say well done to the alty support the atmosphere was fantastic.

Alty were not that bad but heh we won and thats the main thing.  The two centre halves recently have been top notch, give credit where its due.

The bottom two look doomed to me.  Never been a big fan of guessing how many points we need, lets just keep it going being tight at the back and grabbing crucial goals the other end.  Colin Little fingers crossed should be back before too long!!

Both teams were poor tonight, our midfield was where we lacked, Densmore and Danylyk sorely missed!

Having said that, they had few clear cut chances, Elam had the best and fluffed them both.

Anyway it makes a change for us to play poorly and get the points, well done lads  :)

PS i hope Vics stay up for the Derby games they add a bit of spice.

Can't be arsed quoting but whoever slagged Maddox and Talbot off earlier really is a pillock. I could go on for a bit about what they did for us etc but I wont.

The match tonight was truly woeful - no more to be said other than hoping nobody had brought a friend in the hope of attracting them to future Alty games.

I hate to repeat myself but what tonight proved to me again and beyond dispute is how much we miss Shaun when he isn't playing.

We weren't great but we did enought o ensure that we held out with a bit of luck, i.e. if we had played worse our luck wou;ldn't have held. You know what I mean.

We really are stretched at the moment. Tonight, no Densmore, Danylyk (failed fitness test), Denham, Little and only a half fit Senior. Johnson off with injury and by all acounts Young shouldn't even have come out for the second half, looks like both will be out on Saturday.

Wasn't pretty but did enough.

He didn't 'slag' Maddox and Talbot, he simply said the current defence is much better.

This is obviously true.

I'm sure you could go on for hours about what they did for us but it would be completely irrelevant to the point that was actually made.

Mad dog and Tabs are from a different period as much as i think they were great,we have moved forward now and at least we have 2 good centre halfs.3 pts from Saturdays game will do nicely and really set us up.

Yes, a horrible game, but job done and 6 points from the Vics.

Now, we have just got to hope they stay in business until the end of the season, otherwise all that effort will be wasted and we will be 6 points poorer!

the club is truely in the crap and I don't think we will see this one out.

Possibly the worst Alty performance I've seen. The replacements for the injured/suspended players just aren't good enough - in the 2nd half we played like we had 10 men. We desperately need Densmore, Little, Dale and Denham back ASAP.

Oh, and Coburn, if after the 50th goal kick it's still going straight to the opposite goalie, how about throwing it out instead? Crazy idea.

Thank feck we won :)

We won, we got 3 points, we have our first 'double' of the season... and against our rivals...
and we're all disappointed, I think we've come a long way in a short time...
I must admit it was the first time in a while I found myself getting 'bored' at a game. Eastbourne will be no pushover at all, and if we play like that would expect them to take 3 points home.

Good to see EVERY 14 year old stella lover from the area in the ground last night...  :)

Does anyone know why the police turned up? When I left the ground I counted around 10 police cars/Vans. It was hardly seens of fans rioting in the stands and throwing seats at each other. It gives the club a black name when locals see the cop shop surrounding the ground for a non-league game, people will subsequently develope the wrong impression of the club.

Just another point will Dale be fit for saturday, he definatly went off injured, he was only on for 5mins of the second half. I hope its not to serious.

With respect CB, that's a load of bollocks basically. Laney had quite a solid game last night as he has all season, Peyton did quite well shoring things up and quelled the growing threat from Vics left wing, Hadfield never took a backward step, James Smith performed adequately again and Joe O'Neill has also shown up well recently.

I think you forget that these guys aren't doing the main job. Last season some of them were the first names on the team sheet and now they are squad players which is the level we should/want to be at.

So you think we played well? As soon as Dale went off our backs were against the wall (inexplicably), the passing was atrocious, the midfield non-existant, Peyton ran around like a headless chicken as usual, and the fact we had 2 of the league's smallest players up front didn't seem to stop the endless supply of hoofed up high balls which surprisingly they didn't get. I'm not a fan of Joe, but even I thought he should have been introduced earlier so that we would have someone who could at least try and hold the ball up. The only good point was the defending. Considering we were playing a team adrift at the bottom of the table, it was appalling. If we play like that against Eastbourne we're going to get pasted.

Sorry, I didn't make that completely clear. I don't think we played well to be honest and quite clearly yes we do need Densmore, Danylyk, Johnson and Little back. Obviously.

What I meant was that the players I mentioned are perfectly adequate replacements (as long as they're not starting every single week). I too would have had Joe on earlier. By that i do mean replacements. AS Ecky said, other wise they would be 1st choice.

Forget it...

VoD, as poor as Northwich were, they are very, very dangerous from set pieces. Altho I think the point has been discussed generally.

The worrying thing is that if they did decide to start trouble it would more than likely be innocent people who ended up getting hurt. York have got some really nice and friendly fans who get on well with our supporters, but I'm sure they've also got their fair share of "lads" if it came to it too.

This country is on its arse

LMAO. Quite a tricky read with little or no punctuation and a series of unrelated points spilling out onto the page!

p.s. never seen so many p155ed 16 yeard olds since i was at my school leaving do

Sorry but jesus they caused no problems and they were 17 not 16 because 1 some of them my mates and second i keep making the point to them not to do all this V sign sh*t and that to opposition fans. But if were going to start criticising Kids behaviour then how the hell do we expect to build the profile of club just slip it under carpet i mean i don't think to many people were in best condition for that game i mean i'd been drinking since 10 in the morning. As for the Police i started chanting right or wrong who the f**k invited you because there were a clown in green gloves who were 16 because me mate told me tonight he goes college with him and that was it so like the United chant went where the f**k were you on wednesday night the same chant should go for us against united in friendly because Police go to events where trouble is completely unlikly unless they been rung where as they hide in a cop van when Rangers trash the city centre and are aloud to attack defenceless police officers GMP Worst Police force in the world they haven't a clue when the best time is to move in and as for tuesday night when the stewards told me police were here i thought why should i care i got no intention of coursing trouble so good for them there wasting there time and ours and other football clubs money at same time.

Stewards ruin football in big club grounds Police just try to ruin football in general

               Rant over

It's no use...

Right stop being a f**king idiot. WRITE IN SENTENCES. Put full stops in (these things>>.........). If in doubt re-read what you've written but only take a fresh breath at the stop of every sentence.

You should have a purple face now.

Jesus.  >:(

I reckon you'd need to drink a full bottle of teachers to make any sense of that.

Basically he seems to be saying that stewards and the police have a mission policy to ruin football matches. I wasn't aware that they had aything to do with 'on-the-pitch' activties. Oh dear.
