Altrincham FC First Team / Free tickets
« on: December 03, 2019, 02:54:14 PM »
Back in the 80's/90's I remember getting free tickets from school to come and watch Alty.  It got me hooked, for one, and there's a few others I know of who still come.  Anyone else become a fan through tickets from school?  Is this something the club still does?  In our current excellent form, it would be a great time to get some people of school age through the gates, hopefully get (sucker) them to become lifelong Alty fans.

I never like to see a guy left unemployed, but there really was no alternative. I wish the guy well.

He works for MerseyRail doesn't he? I guess he didn't give up the day job.

He was in charge of performance, I think.  Ironic...

I was stood right behind Arnold when he scored, and I'm pretty convinced that it wasn't on target before the deflection.  Maybe not so worldly after all?  Still, a good goal.

Whilst we're on the subject of the shirts, why the hell couldn't we play in our home kit?

I get that both teams wear striped shirts, however theirs is predominantly green, and ours is predominantly red. Taken together with the shorts, you couldn't glance at them and get confused.

On the highlights in the clubhouse at half time, I noticed much worse clashes on the Saturday.

Not putting up any more excuses for our lot, but I just think you should only change when you absolutely have to. I know the decision probably isn't the club's, but still - I hate having to wear yellow (tbh I liked the aquamarine...)

Maybe for colourblind people?  I'd struggle to tell at a quick glance, so the bigger contrast the better.

Altrincham FC First Team / Reasons to smile...
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:01:26 AM »
Not sure why I was more upset by the loss on Sunday than by many previous defeats.  Was it because it was our best chance to get a decent cup run and some money?  Was it the frustration that most people seem to disagree with Lee's formation?  Was it because of the spectacular non-showing from the players?  Was it the dreading of the inevitable "What happened to your lot?" grilling at work on Monday?

Probably a bit of everything!  However, there are always some reasons to smile:

1) We support the best team ever (that's Altrincham, for those unsure)
2) The club still seems to be run very well, from a business perspective
3) The new sports hall
4) We have Radio Robins (well done to the team - a lot of people I know are jealous we have a decent commentary service)
5) We're not in the relegation zone
6) It's nearly Christmas
7) This...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtXKG7ucO1Y&list=UU37zIaEBaIZYrJFbGNvgIdw

For some bizarre reason, I am optimistic that we can win at Telford, and that Sunday will be, by far, the lowest point of the season.

Don't worry, once Flynnie and his team have got in the gantry I will hide the ladder. That way scuttling any chance of the Beeb hijacking the Radio Robins broadcast.  ;)

You might have to dismantle the full staircase at the back of the gantry too...

Anyone any idea how you pronounce his surname? I very recently found out that one of my favourite bands, who have brothers with this surname, pronounce it to rhyme with "Havana" and not like Cav-an-argh as I always assumed...

followed by...

"She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes..."

Legend!

« on: June 28, 2013, 12:15:49 PM »
It is, and has always been, the best non-league (and league?) website!

Couple of personal gripes though...

1) the new site doesn't seem to work too well on mobile devices
2) not sure there's a need to open a new tab/window as often

Other than that, fantastic job!

Altrincham FC First Team / Radio Robins on android

I've listened to Radio Robins on my computer before (well done everyone behind this!), but as I'll potentially be out-and-about for playoff games (grrr...) does anyone know if I can listen to Radio Robins on my android phone?  Cheers.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Sexism in football
« on: April 29, 2012, 04:56:08 PM »
Indeed.  I wonder how many of the people shouting sexist abuse (which wasn't funny, just embarrassing) thought it was right to eject Dennis Birch for his comments?  In my opinion, yesterday's comments were just as bad, and the abuse-givers should also have been ejected.  I also thought that the offside decision for the goal was correct, with the striker being in-line, not offside!  So there...
