And the Bangor Game may be Boxing Day 1980 (a Friday), we played Barrow away on the Saturday - winning both games 5-4 in Wales and 4-0 in Cumbria.  It was that Boxing Day that the Bleeding Wolf burnt down

The Great Harwood game was in the run up to the Trophy semi final second leg against Runcorn.  We had drawn 0-0 with the Linnets on the Saturday, and this game was played on the Monday.  Notable for the debuts of Graham Tobin and Larry Garrity.  I remember turning up at The Old Showground and saying "who the hell are they?"  Graham Heathcote scored both goals in a routine 2-0 win.  Garrity made it into the starting 11 at Runcorn the following Saturday for the second leg where a mal Bailey goal took us to Wembley for the first time

Altrincham FC First Team / Roll of Honour 2023
« on: December 19, 2023, 09:05:16 PM »

Boxing Day's game with FC Halifax Town at The J.Davidson Stadium is our last home game of 2023 and therefore has been designated our Roll Of Honour match day - as we remember all those associated with Alty who've passed away in the last year.

We're in the process of putting the Roll Of Honour together and are asking fans to submit names to be included.

Submissions can be emailed to bill@altrinchamfootballclub.co.uk - and if you'd like to include a photo of a friend or loved one we may use it as part of a Roll Of Honour website post ahead of the Halifax game.

And the now defunct Accrington Stanley's leading scorer in their last full season in the Football League was none other than Jack Swindells

The Newport Pagnell game is in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup - our equivalent of CSC.

Mick Moore was certainly a forward - wore number 9 usually

Scored 4 at Worksop in our 7-1 win there but missed a penalty at Rotherham in the FA Trophy Semi-Final 1st Replay which would have taken us to Wembley

We swapped him for John Rogers with Wigan Athletic

The 0-5 defeat at Lincoln was played in front of a crowd of 2720

The highest crowd in the first season of the APL was 4892 for Yeovil v Weymouth

The largest ever non-League crowd before Saturday was 16254 for Dulwich Hamlet v Nunhead in the Isthmian League in 1931.  Also until Saturday the  Midland League game between Peterborough United and Boston United in 1956 saw an attendance of 13341 and their game against Kings Lynn that same season had over 12000

I remember a 78-79 Northern Premier League game with Bangor at Moss Lane which ended 3-3, John Rogers equalising for us in 90+5 when goals rarely happened in stoppage time.   The Bangor front 2 were Tony Broadhead and John Hughes

Jeff of course the nephew of the one and only John King.  Amazing that Kingy still having an indirect influence at the top of non-League football even today.
