Altrincham FC First Team / Rochdale match thread
« on: January 22, 2024, 09:37:46 AM »
A Greater Manchester ‘derby’ in front of the TV cameras then & a chance to put right one of our worst displays of the season at Spotland. Which I’m sure Parky will be reminding the players of.

Assume no major changes from the squad at Chesterfield, wonder if James Jones & Donowa are any nearer fitness but other than that possibly same starting XI. Maybe Amaluzor for Mooney the one you might debate. And, of course, if the weekend off has given Ross the chance to regain full fitness or whether Gould will be back in. Fingers crossed.

Rochdale have a reasonable away record with 5 wins, albeit all against bottom half sides. Both sides like to play football so should make for a good game, though the rain forecast all of tomorrow daytime so will be a heavy pitch. With our strong home record I’d back us every time though so I reckon a 3-1 home win. Crowd intriguing with iffy weather & it being on the telly. I reckon a shade below 2k with about 500 of them.

So, onto the Xmas double header then against the Shaymen.

Two evenly matched sides who started the season poorly but have gradually got better, after them losing Wild & a number of players in the summer they’ve really bucked their ideas up of late. Still though they’ve only won away twice this season & scored a mere 8 in 11 matches. If we get the first goal we should be on for the win but there won’t be a lot in either match I reckon.

Obvious question about who replaces Newby, as on other thread I’d be tempted to play Jordan Hulme there for now & see what options we have in the market in the new year.

Good as well with the high quality of our pitch you don’t have to worry about winter P-P that often anymore, no doubt it will be on. Hoping for a large gate but they won’t bring as many as last season when they were on an Easter all dayer on the trains so I’m guessing around 2300-2500 but hopefully we can push as near to 3000 as possible.

Altrincham FC First Team / AGM News

As widely predicted then Aldershot to get a reprieve at the expense of Gateshead.

As less widely predicted Gateshead to be relegated to the National North instead. Odd. I assumed they’d be slung out of the National League structure altogether. I guess Blyth, Spenny, Darlo pleased for an extra local derby but seems bizarre when they appear to be a total mess off the pitch.

Which also means Oxford will stay in the South and only Gloucester will come North. Shame-was looking forward to that one.

First set of odds released. Obviously even pre-AGM far too early but I suspect we will be right up there in the betting. Darlo & Kettering to come in I’d wager. Not too bad for a first pass anyway.

Altrincham FC First Team / Warrington vs Kings Lynn
« on: May 11, 2019, 09:44:56 AM »
I see it’s the ‘Super Final’ this afternoon to decide the final promotion spot with Farsley and Kettering. Both sides have been right up there in their respective leagues last 2 seasons so sure it will be close. I’ll probably be in the minority of one on here but I’d love to see Kings Lynn do it as I have a very good mate from there so keen to see them win it for him. I note too it’s an all ticket sell out with 2500 capacity and the away team only given 375 tickets. I thought you needed 3k minimum at our level? Lucky for them Stockport got promoted. Look forward to seeing how it pans out.

Altrincham FC First Team / York-New Manager
« on: January 10, 2019, 07:41:43 PM »
I see the Minstermen have poached Steve Watson off Gateshead.

Finally I think an appointment that should get them towards the right end of the table and move them forward-they looked a shambles at our place a few months back.

I wonder if the appointment is met with approval by a well known York City fan known to many of this parish. Hope they end the season strongly-good club and good fans.

Alty 5/6

Stockport 13/5

Hopefully we can put a marker down ahead of two big games over Christmas and it doesn’t rain too much in the next few days too. Attendance guesstimate around 1200-1300.

Only a matter of time really.

Still a really attractive gig and I bet a decent budget too.

Maybe Askey will go for it too.

Altrincham FC First Team / Brabin leaves Southport
« on: January 19, 2015, 10:42:11 PM »
Just seen on Twitter that Gary Brabin has left Southport for a coaching job in the youth set up at Everton.

Big loss for them that, excellent cup run and he was getting them up the league. I can see them and Welling being dragged right into it.

Altrincham FC First Team / Woking
« on: December 01, 2014, 09:16:13 AM »
So, onto the most enigmatically scheduled Tuesday night game since the time there was a power cut at Grays.

Fair play to anyone from Alty who actually makes it down for this one.  Speaking to Mr Jolly on the way out on Saturday he mentioned there might be a handful. Not bad for London Alty mind, Woking always had a lot more going for it as an away day than the dreadful Crawley and Stevenage.

I see they are right up there and spanked us at home too obvs but Dartford and Telford have both taken points from Kingfield this season so it can be done. I think it's a big ask though and can see us going down 2-1.

Altrincham FC First Team / NLP at it again
« on: November 30, 2014, 01:33:34 PM »
'Evevtually the pressure told and Adam Griffins shot caught the Kiddy napping and Reeves fired home in style.

So reads the sentence in the NLP describing Reeves winner yesterday. Brilliant. In addition James Lawrie is referred to as 'Laurie' throughout.

Talk about journalistic licence. I could have sworn it was a highly accurate cross to the back post that Reeves headed firmly downward into the corner.

Altrincham FC First Team / Southport sack Foyle
« on: October 05, 2014, 07:59:54 PM »
I see the shoeing Woking handed out yesterday was the last straw for Chairman Charlie at Southport.

Shame that as I think he would have taken them down.

They shop in the same market as us so will be interested to see who they appoint as their new boss.

So....

Hednesford, FCUM, Witton and Fylde then, who do we want?

I really hope it's Witton, chaired by Mark Harris and it would mean a proper Cheshire Christmas derby and hopefully no Christmas trips to the Bower Fold either.

Come on Albion!

Altrincham FC First Team / Away record
« on: April 17, 2013, 11:13:39 PM »
Worth noting that other than our defeat at superhuman Chester we have not lost a single game away game to the top 8 in the league and indeed if it wasn't for the dreaded 'P' work you could have made a strong case for us winning all 6. Coupled with our superb home record since Christmas then definite reasons for optimism in the play offs.
