Altrincham FC First Team / THE FORUM IS BACK (I hope)

Sorry for the delay in getting this sorted.

The forum is back. 

I have changed the member registration sign up questions which should stop the high rate of spam attempts.
I have removed any accounts that haven't posted for a year.
I have cleaned up the tables that run in the background, but hopefully no messages have been lost but apologies if so
I will be running an update overnight which should also make the site more secure against spam attacks.

I think thats about it - Enjoy :)

Apologies again for the forum going down.

Although I now know how to quick fix this problem, it is the same as last time.

It may be a different forum script is needed - I will do research into this and of course consult with people on here before any changes - My thoughts are if this needs to be done then would probably pick a weekend in June so enough out of the way of the season for minimum disruption.

Maybe a new forum to celebrate going full time is what is needed, as this one has been around for a while now, and although it has changed over the years and has had updates it may need a fresh look and install.

As I said though I will monitor it and not make an decisions without asking on here first.

Hi,

I have just noticed there are over 2,500 accounts waiting for activation, the majority are spam so I will go through them later.

Is there anyone who can help keep on top of this ? It’s if the email address looks dodgy don’t approve, if the username is random letters, etc.

Anyone with Admin rights should be able to access the area.

No idea what happened but all the table structures decided to go haywire.

If anything isn’t work then please let me know and I’ll have a look. Hopefully I have not lost any messages whilst sorting it

Not sure what happened.

Seems some files go corrupted at about 03:41 last night. Not sure if this was just one of those things or an attack of some sort.

Passwords have been changed, files have been tidied up and verified and all should be ok now for people to use.

I did a clear out of members waiting approval and seems I declined someone by mistake and they are not happy about it (they sent a nice message to me)

Altrincham FC First Team / Forum Update

Firstly great point for Alty.

Secondly, and less important is that I spent the weekend doing background work rather than the template for how the forum looks.

There is a lot of spam accounts trying to be set up (about 70 a day) and I am currently rejecting those and blocking IP addresses, if memory serves me right it will slow down and will get on top of it. Its just something that seems to generate when you put a new board on the servers.  This needs to be kept ontop of as it will slow down the servers if traffic is constantly coming in and not being directed.

You can tell I am deep into the depths of data at the moment.

As of December 2020 the forum (in one way or another) will be 20 years old.

Started originally on Network54 servers (doesn't exist anymore) and accessible via long URL it changed to www.altyfans.co.uk in 2005.

Firstly thank you for the kind comments. Very much appreciated.

Hopefully this layout will be acceptable until I look into trying to recreate the old one.

Sorry Radio Robins & Games tab isn't in but I am taking my time as don't want the whole thing to crash again.

There is a chance the games/arcade will be removed but will try my best to keep it.

This has been a nightmare too be honest, and the real fun bit will be when I tidy up all the background stuff as I have copies of copied things, its chaos in the background  :)

Hopefully it is usable and you can enjoy it in its current form.
