Altrincham FC First Team / Tube Strikle
« on: February 04, 2016, 08:02:27 PM »
The RMT union is currently planning to strike from the evening of Saturday 6 February for 48 hours. If this goes ahead, Tube services would be disrupted from early evening on Saturday and all day on Sunday 7 and Monday 8 February. As the strike involves Tube station staff, Tube services will be running but many stations may open late, close early, or may not open at all.

Services on London Overground, the bus network, DLR, tram, river and TfL Rail services will run normally, but they may be much busier than usual. Extra buses will operate. Weekend engineering works on the Tube, TfL Rail and London Overground will go ahead as planned.

Buses do not accept cash. Please use contactless payment or Oyster, or a bus & tram pass ticket. Contactless is the same fare as Oyster.

Please check before you travel and visit tfl.gov.uk/tube-strike or follow @TfLTravelAlerts, @TfLTrafficNews and @TfLBusAlerts on Twitter for the latest information.

Altrincham FC First Team / Colour Clash
« on: August 09, 2015, 10:09:20 AM »
I thought that yesterday there was a colour clash with FGR keeper wearing a florescent Green strip against the predominantly lime out players green kit, especially when their defenders had their backs to the wall defending in the sun - not thta they had to defend that much yesterday.

Altrincham FC First Team / PADDY FAGAN R.I.P.
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:54:00 PM »
I dont remember this being posted on the forum before and I dont get the MEN, but Paddy Fagan passed away a couple of months ago, aged 84 years.
If my memory is correct Fionan (Paddy was his nickname when he arrived in England - what a surprise and how original !) was the first Alty manager (player-manager) in the White and Swales era.
His father Jack, played in the first ever Irish international match - then known as the Irish Free State, forerunner of the Republic of Ireland. Fionan also played for Ireland during his Manchester City days. What has been posted on this forum before, is that he was the last player to score for Alty in a game played on Christmas Day. He was seen watchintg matches at Moss lane even later in his life. Another lovely character in Alty history.

Altrincham FC First Team / Play-offs
« on: April 06, 2013, 09:20:49 PM »
I see that the BSN play-off Semi-finals this season are over 2 legs.
Does the highest placed team play the 1st leg at home?
Where is the final to be played?

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty Fan on TV
« on: January 14, 2013, 08:54:52 PM »
During the Man U v Liverpool match yesterday, the Sky cameras honed in on Fergie joking with 2 fans sat directly behind him. The commentator identified one as Angus Loughran. I see Wikipedia now describe him as a Man U fan and not an Altrincham supporter. Has he changed sides as I havent heard him mentioned on the Alty scene for some time? ;)

Altrincham FC First Team / Gloucester City away
« on: October 07, 2012, 07:59:30 AM »
This is particularly for London Alty who like to take advantage of booking rail tickets in advance.
The FA Cup 2nd round is scheduled for Saturday 1st Dec. This woud mean that our match against Gloucester will be moved if either Gloucester or ourseves are still in the FA Cup OR if Cheltenham have a home tie.

Altrincham FC First Team / Hypocrite
« on: June 03, 2012, 03:30:16 PM »
In the season of hypocrocy, the Chairman of Grimsby takes the buscuit.
In the NLP he is pushing for the number of promotion places from the Conference to the FL to be increased - to be fair to the 10 ex-League clubs that are now stuck in the Conference and cant bet back in the league due to the current restrictions causing a bottleneck.
We never got to be a League club because his predecessor didnt collect his ballot paper. I am delighted that Grimsby and Luton are now well established non-league clubs.
I believe there should be a 4 up 4 down situation - to be fair to ALL non league clubs including ex-league clubs that turn things around by operating properly.

Altrincham FC First Team / NON LEAGUE FAIR PLAY LEAGUE
« on: April 29, 2012, 11:17:36 AM »
Now this will peeve off Silkyman and fans of other dodgy non league clubs.
According to the table in the NLP today Altrincham finished top of the NLP/FA Fair play league.(see page 40)
You see, cheats never prosper ;)

Altrincham FC First Team / THE Comical Manager
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:03:30 PM »
Steve Evans was interviewed by Football Focus today.
"two years ago today we won 1-0 against Altrincham in a Conference fixture. I enjoyed that just as much as if we beat Stoke"
What planet is this clown on

At present you can get a fare from London to Cheltenham on 03 Sep for £18 return.
I managed to get tickets at a total of £14.60 from Redhill for myself and 2 kids using a rail card.

Altrincham FC First Team / How to attract fans
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:27:43 AM »
On Boxing Day I took my two boys to Twickenham to watch Harlequins v London Irish. I had been to the same Christmas fixture at the Stoop a few years ago which attracted a then bumper crowd of around 10,000. Harlequins moved this year's fixture to Twickenham and charged £10 for Adults and £5.50 for kids. So a family day's entertainment cost including train fares around £30. The attendance in this magnificent 82,000 capacity stadium was 74,200. The only downside was the journey door to door of 3 hours each way to do less than 35 miles. The match was OK though nowhere near the standard of that in the Southern Hemisphere. My point is that Harlequins got something right and the crowd was made up of mainly families.

Altrincham FC First Team / Todays match
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:13:55 PM »
I was at the match today thankfully on my own and not with my kids. A game ruined right from the very first minute by the pint-sized Jester in the middle whose obvious intentention was to be the centre of attraction instead of the players. This clown managed to give 3 penalties and not one was a penalty.
Goal 1 - A penalty when the ball was belted at Lawton's hand - never a penalty.
Goal 2 - poor marking in the Alty defence.
Goal 3 - looked offside
Goal 4 - Another penalty for handball when Alty defender belted from point blank range - never a penalty.
Second half we get a pen obviously to balance the books - Robbie Lawton shouting at the Ref that even that wasnt a pen.
We competed better in the second half until we capitulated in the last 5 minutes with poor defending. A fair score would have been probably 3-0.
An absolutely dreadful Refereeing performance - the worse I have seen for a very long time - Yep, even worse than superwoman.Take nothing away from Crawley being a good team but this clown made it so easy for them that they didnt really need to score on their own.
As usual nothing will be done about this Referee. He will be paid, referee again next week and ruin other peoples livelihood and entertainment, then tell everyone what a wonderful servant he is to the game. A Total **** I know not all Refs are like this but its a pity something wont be done those that are.

Altrincham FC First Team / Todays game
« on: October 30, 2010, 06:32:24 PM »
Just got back from Hayes and delighted with three well earned points.
First half was awful and Hayes were slightly worse than us. Hayes were as bad as they were at the beginning of last season, and we werent much better in the first half.
We dominated in the second half and deserved to win. We crowded the midfield but to be honest we look toothless up front.
My man of the match was Nicky Clee. However he had to play very deep but probably as well as when he beat thieir defenders there were very few striking options to cross or pass to. I didnt get a clear view of the penalty decision. Somner makes us look more solid. Baines looked useful and Joseph was far better than the last time I saw him. I hope Robbie Williams' injury is not serious.
I thought there were more fans there than 274.
