Altrincham FC First Team / Warrington Town
« on: April 25, 2023, 10:43:52 PM »
Went to Warrington vs Matlock tonight in the NPL play-off semi. Good to see ex Alty players Tony Thompson, Andy White, Tom Hannigan, Sean Williams and Josh Amis and it was a very comfortable 4-1 win. John Johnston was totally anonymous for Matlock and got subbed at half time.

Over 1800 there, no segregation but the stewarding was very low key. Actual police presence outside the ground at full time but all very friendly.

In my time watching Alty we've had a number of great wingers but the 3 who stand out for me would be Barry Howard, Paul Showler and Ryan Colclough. I wonder how others would compare them - BH was a scorer of great and important goals as well as a creator for others while playing in a top side over several seasons. PS was the star of another top side, albeit only for a season and losing him was a huge blow at the time. RC has been excellent in a mid table side and could potentially hit greater heights with a prolific striker to convert the chances he creates. Its difficult to compare eras but I think Barry Howard would be my choice of the 3, he was unorthodox but entertaining and ultimately a key member of our most successful time. I can even overlook the bubble perm he sported for a lot of the time with us 😄

Honourable mentions for 2 of my own personal favourites of my early years, Ian Morris and John Vernon.

Altrincham FC First Team / Tony Thompson

Sent off for Warrington today - apparently an away supporter from Guiseley urinated in Tony's water bottle and TT squirted the bottle in the face of the said "fan" when he found out.

Altrincham FC First Team / Club Q&A session
« on: July 25, 2022, 12:02:25 PM »
This was mentioned as forthcoming by Lawrence Looney a couple of weeks back and, reading some of the comments about stewarding, fanzone etc. I think it is something that we need to have soon. While the club has generally kept us well informed with most aspects on the playing side, it feels like we've lost a little bit of the club/supporters/Alty family connection at the moment. Bill has been very quiet over the summer (and he has every right to a break, he does a phenomenal amount of work for the club) so it would be nice to have one of his less formal Q&A sessions. I'm sure the club have something planned and we should ensure we take full advantage of it to get our questions answered and any concerns fielded.

They were close to promotion last season, he could be the difference this time. Good luck Thommo

Altrincham FC First Team / Loans & next season
« on: March 23, 2022, 01:31:32 PM »
Am I right in thinking that only Harry Perritt of last night's starting line-up is a loanee? If so, we can see the evolution of the squad taking place as we slowly move away from the old guard (Moult, Hannigan for example) with newer players like Marriot & Osbourne really establishing themselves. Its natural that some our old favourites will play less of a part as we move towards a hybrid/full time club model, not that I am writing any of the longer servers off just yet! Last night's performance showed we can match most of the best in the division when we're on form and we have the basis of a decent squad ahead of next season. Kyle Ferguson looks a great addition.

Altrincham FC First Team / Returning players
« on: March 04, 2021, 09:57:06 AM »
Last night on the Alty fans Zoom chat we were discussing players who returned to Alty and were more successful in their 2nd or 3rd spell. So far I've come up with...

Ian Morris
Graham Heathcote
John Davison
Peter Eales
Gary Anderson
John Brady
Ricky Harris
Stuart Coburn

So not many in almost 50 years

Any others?

Altrincham FC First Team / Archive video - Alty in the FA Cup in the 1990s
« on: February 14, 2021, 05:23:41 PM »
Found this tape today - you may have seen some if not all of it but there are parts not on YouTube before.

Alty vs Macc 1990 - includes a Mick Farrelly (RIP) interview, a late Alty equaliser (love Nicky Daws' reaction), a classic John King interview/quip and a classic Paul Showler goal

Alty vs Huddersfield FA Cup 1990

Spurs vs Alty 1995 with interviews including Andy Reid (RIP)

Enjoy!

Altrincham FC First Team / Colin Bell RIP
« on: January 05, 2021, 07:32:15 PM »
Sad to hear of the passing of Manchester City legend Colin Bell - he was often seen at Moss Lane sitting incognito at the back of the main stand for Alty night games. RIP
