Altrincham FC First Team / Phew - That Was Close ?
« on: June 23, 2016, 10:21:14 AM »
Many thanks to George Heslop's Moustache to point out that I had failed to spot that Belgium had not completed all their qualifying matches in the last update of the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance competition.

Fortunately for leader Greg Davies their one goal victory over Sweden was just enough to see him over the line by 1 goal after Iceland's 2-1 victory edged Chairman Grahame Rowley ever closer.

Greg's winning combination of Belgium, Wales and Croatia saw him finish with a total of 15 goals, just 1 goal ahead of Graham's combination of Iceland, France and Wales.

A late surge from Mike Ford's combination which included Hungary and Portugal who shared 6 goals last night was not quite enough to reach the top two spots.

Congratulations to Greg Davies and Grahame Rowley who pick up the cash for 1st and 2nd places and Neil Faulkner for having the three lowest scoring teams.

Thank you to all of you who took part and entered into the spirit of the occasion.

Altrincham FC First Team / TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance Update
« on: June 20, 2016, 01:20:06 PM »
With just the Group A teams having completed all three qualifying fixtures Neil Faulkner's Team 2 looks like favourite to pick up the Booby Prize and finish as lowest aggregate scorers.

Two of his three teams, Switzerland and Albania have completed their three matches and have managed just 3 goals between them. Only Ukraine scoring a bagful against Hungary can deny him bottom spot.

At the top, three teams currently occupy top spot with 9 goals but both Steve Foster's Team 1 and Grahame Rowley teams include France who have completed all 3 games whereas Greg Davies, teams still have 1 match each to play.

There is still everything to play for with some potentially high scoring matches.

Can England run up a big score tonight against Slovakia ?

In Group C, Germany and Hungary will fancy their chances against Northern Ireland and Hungary respectively.

With Ireland having to find a win to progress in the tournament, Italy could capitalise on Wednesday ?

The full table is as follows

Steve Foster (1) (France-Russia-Italy)   9

Altrincham FC First Team / Fozzie Top & Bottom !
« on: June 17, 2016, 09:56:36 AM »
With 18 of the 36 qualifying group matches completed in the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance, we are still awaiting one of the countries to score more than 2 goals in a match.

Germanys 0-0 draw with Poland and Northern Ireland's 2 goal victory over were the surprise results from Thursday's fixtures.

Steve Foster could be cleaning up two of the three prizes on offer as his Team 1 currently occupy joint top spot with Chairman Grahame Rowley both on 8 goals scored to date by their 3 randomly selected teams.

Meanwhile at the bottom end of the table Steve's Team 2 occupy bottom slot with jus 1 goal scored from Hungary, Poland and Austria.

Don't despair however, the current list below includes many players whose teams have not yet completed 2 matches each so things could change when all the teams have completed Round 2 of the qualifying group matches.

Altrincham FC First Team / It's All To Play For After Round 1..
« on: June 15, 2016, 12:22:57 AM »
.. in the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance Competition.

Portugal's unexpected 1-1 draw with Iceland saw the end of the first round of matches in the Euro 2016 Qualifying stages and all teams have played one match each.

No team has scored more than two goals in their opening qualifying matches and as a consequence the aggregate scoring of each entrants three teams is very close.

To date we have 41 entrants in our competition which see three teams selected at random for your £5.00 entry fee and a chance to win one of three cash prizes.

We have three joint leaders on 5 goals each after the first round of matches with the top scorers and second placed winning £100.00 and £50.00 respectively at the end of all three qualifying matches. (Anyone who has drawn either England or Russia will be hoping they are not banned by UEFA for their fans bad behaviour before the three qualifying matches are completed !)

At the bottom end of the table where there is a prize for the lowest aggregate scorers competition is more intense for the £10.00 consolation prize with no fewer than five participants having a combination of three teams who have mustered just one goal between them.

Entries are still being accepted up to the end of the second round of qualifying matches. Entries and payment can be made at the club offices (if you are renewing your season tickets etc) or by sending myself a personal message here on the forum. Payment will be collected at a later date .

Altrincham FC First Team / Holness Sending Off
« on: April 06, 2016, 12:11:07 AM »
Despite being stood on the Radio Robins commentary gantry and watching the after match melee after the final whistle me and my fellow match commentators and summarisers failed to notice and report that Marcus's Holness was sent off.

Word has it that after shaking his hand on the pitch and failing to take action on the pitch, tonight's referee informed Jake Molt to tell Marcus Holness who was sat in the dressing room that he had been sent off !

It appears that the decision was taken after protests after the final whistle following protests from the Dover players.
