Looks like another game on a sodden pitch, not our ideal conditions.

Same starting 11 as Tues.

Alty 2-0 Kings Lynn. (Kosylo, Cloclough).

Dont know what it is about KL but they give me the ick
Dont forget non league teams knocked out of the fa cup by Pompey get a consolation promotion 😉

Harrogate more likely, thank goodness Portsmouth beat them! :) Maybe even Macc depending on how the fl farce ends! Whatever, ,take it. And if we miss out, not going up is not nearly so bad as it used to be, plenty of high profile games. I was thinking back to the first time we won the npl, and Workslop was our biggest game! And after them, a chllly Whitby with a slab of meat for a prize in the raffle and only giving results from other Yorkshire teams... a different world...
Do you mind?, we are still watching and wish both yourselves and Harrogate the best of luck in your finals!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Season tickets
« on: March 23, 2020, 07:53:43 PM »
Would it be possible for the club to begin sales of next year's season tickets now?  I think it would be a great way for the club to make some money at the moment and keep a lot of fans interested over the summer.  I suspect it would have a lot more recognition than a GoFundMe page simply because people are getting something in return.  Cheers.
Out of interest how much does an Alty season ticket cost? I was a bit surprised to find out in discussion in the Harrogate Town Club (where i apparently wasn't supposed to be!) that my Fratton End renewal @ £389 wasn't that much more expensive than a town season.
Also does Alty have a league club? In Pompey with its one city, one club ethos its straightforward but our youth team players go out on loan to Havant & Waterlooville and Bognor amongst others and we always play friendlies against them in pre season. The Havant & Waterlooville friendly is normally their biggest crowd of the season @3000ish. Pompey Season ticket holders get £6 entrance to National League Games there. (Please tell me its not Salford City!)

Might be worth you looking at the football trust model. It definitely saved Pompey, Exeter and Northampton down south. Does need a degree of leadership to set up but I don't see why you couldn't use it as a vehicle to get league football if thats what you want! You'd have to give up pitch side drinking though. I see from Wikipedia that your forefathers did try to get election to the football league relatively recently, perhaps you're not as ambitious now? ;)
Ps #altrincham fc thanks for the best wishes on twitter against Arsenal on Monday noticed and much appreciated, sadly not to be- but this weeks important match is at Peterborough!
Best wishes with your own bid for promotion.

Ah well done, was watching the FA Cup on the BBC website and your score kept popping up.
We've gone from the team with ties against the troublesome non-league sides to the lowest ranked side left in the 5th Round and i reckon our chances against Arsenal at home £££
Are the promotion finals big money spinners for you?

That's the issue Paul. At our level you can drink on the terraces whilst watching the match!
We've got a craft bar similar to the one outside your ground and it does good business during the game.

My understanding is that if we get promoted the bar will stay but a screen will be erected so you can't see the pitch. It's the best that can be done and stay within the law.

Ah, I see. I am old enough to have been brought up in the pens of the Old Fratton End. We were standing and I don't think that anyone would have stopped you taking a pint in in those days, however it definitely wouldn't have stayed in your hands when it became emotional!

Interestingly at Milton Keynes Dons, a supposedly state of the art stadium they designed the bars facing the pitch and the regulations are met by putting up a load of old builders tarpaulins in the away end.
Pompey Paul,

It is good to see you still paying an interest in our great little club.  Does this mean that we have become your 'other' team.  My guess is that you are following our results quite fervently and probably keeping up to speed with happenings via the club website(s).  Perhaps you might even consider attending a game at Alty if you ever find yourself within the environs?  I am sure a warm welcome would greet you.
Ha, I still look in from time to time but I could never support a club with a strip like that! (too close to those who can't be named for my liking).
However I do like doing grounds and if the chance came up of doing it in conjunction with a Pompey Away Match Id be game.
As it happens you may see Blue shirts (including mine) passing close by tomorrow. 2000 of us are heading for Bolton.

The attendance v Guiseley was good - but having just two turnstiles open on the Golf Road end? This needs looking at. Three people selling programmes and two people on the gate?

I went in the far side of the main stand with two e-tickets on my phone and no queue at all & inside the ground in 30 seconds. Think as take up of that improves it may draw people away from Golf Road entrance. Think getting people to turn up earlier (and there by spend more cash in the ground) would be a big thing in reducing those late queues too. On the support more widely if we got four figures for a Saturday home game in the NPL in the late 90s/early noughties that was a serious achievement, now it’s routine and indeed expected. The next step is how do we maintain that and then push up to more like 1500 home average.

I bumped in to an old mate who hasn't been for years and is going to come  thsi season with having a beer being the deciding factor,of course if we go up crowds may not increase as no alcohol in league above ?

Why would there be no alcohol in the league above?
At Pompey in FL1  we have the Victory Bar underneath the Fratton End which can and often does accommodate 500 people.
We're about to apply for planning permission for the new Milton End where lots of you sat last year. One of the stated aims of this is that it will end the ban on selling away supporters alcohol.

The problem is that the EFL doesn't currently have the powers to do that. To get them would require the majority of clubs to vote for the change. Its probably not in the interest of some clubs to do that. A lot of league clubs are in a perilous state.

I reckon we are heading for our biggest crowd for an Alty 2nd Round FA Cup match.

Currently it looks like this:

1973 (a) Blackburn Rovers 8564
1968 (h) Barrow 8462
1965 (a) Rochdale 8367
1979 (a) Rotherham United 6083

Barrow were in Division 3 at the time for our younger viewers.  And in my opinion, the win at Rotherham was one of our best ever performances in the Cup.  Just three years after going there and getting beat 5-0 we controlled the second game, showing just how much progress we had made in that time

I'm not going to Comment on the Game but just a message saying that we hoped you had a good day out despite the circumstances and a safe journey home.
Sorry we were pipped to the post on Attendances by Blackburn Rovers but on the positive side its the biggest attendance for the FA Cup this year so far (that I can find).
Best of Luck in your league for the rest of the season.
Regards,
Pompey Paul

Thanks Pompey Paul - if I had time I would have loved to get the Hoverbus just to try it out. Does Pompey have a strong fanbase in IOW? Guessing Ryde will be a Pompey town, are there Pompey towns and Southampton - sorry, Scummer - towns on IOW?

I reckon with pay on the day that we may well sneak over 10000.

Pompey has quite a big following on the island. They have their own supporters club who arranges coach travel to most away games.
On evening games there is a double-decker bus that goes directly from the ground to a football special hovercraft. The ferries often wait if theres extra time at a cup match as well.
I think even Newport is considered to be a Pompey Town. Pompey does the football coaching for the kids there.
I guess the Scummers don't like crossing the water, it takes them away from "looking after" their Ponies. ;)

Looks like it will be 8500 to 9000 Bill - any idea what the final total Alty tickets sold given the deadline of midday has just passed  understand it was just over 600 as of about 5pm yesterday, according to a contact I have at the club.

If Pompey had sold 8000 by yesterday afternoon that is good enough for me - but you never know they may have sold a few more this morning  - and will they be selling home tickets on the day? Still hold out the hope that we will sneak into 10000 plus - but perfectly happy with 8500 to 9000.

I thought Preston away was about 8800 - was that 1st round then?

Agree Rotherham away one of our all time best performances - was 12 at the time and still ranks as one of top all time away day experiences for me - seem to remember we had a packed special train plus 4 coaches for that match - and easily over 1500 in their vast away end at Millmoor.  Was at the match 2 years previously when they thumped us 5 0 and that was still a great day out.

Tomorrow will be a fantastic day whatever happens - something epic about 600 plus travelling such a long way by train, coach, car, plane - I reckon - and probably boat as well - stuff of legends. Its like a gathering of the global Alty clan

Come on Alty!!

Pompey Home Fans can buy tickets on line up to the day through "print at home" and on the day at the ticket office.
Its a bright sunny day on the south coast and tomorrow is forecast to be dry until 8pm might encourage a few stragglers.
Any Alty fans coming by Hovercraft can get a discount, details here https://www.hovertravel.co.uk/special-offers/portsmouth-fc-match-day-flyer/ ;)

Plenty in the GBG I think the good companion is the designated away pub

https://www.visitportsmouth.co.uk/food-and-drink/the-good-companion-p285171

If you are coming by train it's a bit of a trek - probably 15 mins walk from Fratton station on the the opposite side of Fratton Park. There are a few 'football pubs' on the side streets to the south of the station but they are the ones normally used by home fans. I wouldn't expect any trouble if you went there but you might get a comment or two especially if you are in red and white stripes (not a popular strip in Pompey).

If we'd been switched on we could have given them "Not a Scummer" safety vests to wear over that shirt until they got to the ground. :)

Pompey say 8,000 home fans. I do hope it’s better than that.
Sure they took more to Wembley the other year🤔
Unfortunately, home fans don't turn out in numbers for a game against lower opposition for a cup match. We had 680 against Whitley Bay in the Cup last season, and that  included a good away support.

A total attendance approaching 9000 is, if anything, a bit more than I was expecting and a decent effort from Portsmouth.

Looking at the second round fixture list the only tie that I can see that may have more people attending is Bristol Rovers v Plymouth because its a West Country derby.
From Altrincham's receipts point of view I think that its the best possible tie you could have got.
I know that we (Pompey) will have been aware that its important to you, pricing of the match at £15 is probably maximising the shared revenue at the expense of another 1000 or so home supporters. (Our leasing.com match against Northampton on Tues is £10).
Our FA Cup second round fixture last year was on a Sunday away to Rochdale and attended by 2500 of which 600 came from Pompey (despite the match being on BT) for context.
I think whoever it was at your club (manager?) raising expectations of a 15 k crowd at this stage was probably a bit optimistic.
You are very welcome at Fratton Park and we will do our best to make a noise! It may not be a state of the art stadium by modern standards but in terms of traditional stadiums its pretty good.

Gutted that I'm not able to make the trip to Pompey.  They may be 3 divisions higher than us, but the pressure will rest entirely on their shoulders and they have everything to lose.  For our part, we take with us our current (excellent) form, an away record that is better than our home, a Cup history the envy of every NL side and a band of supporters to rival anything the home side will muster.  I don't think that Pompey will be looking forward to Saturday one bit.  PMA boys, PMA!  #COYR.

I think we will be looking forward to meeting you on Saturday.  Don't mistake us for one of the soft southern football (or Premier) league teams and don't think you are coming to some flat pack stadium.
It took us and our ground 22 years to gain promotion from the Southern League. 6000 of our (non league) supporters formed the 14th and 15th Battalions of the Hampshire Regiment in World War 1.
We are Pompey, we don't forget. :)
