Great news.
There was talk on another thread about the future signings which may come at the end of the month when contracts are up in the league.
What must happen sooner is the signing up of crucial members of the squad to full time contracts.
This is the first of them and I look forward with eager anticipation to seeing news of more very soon!

PS. I think it's the second one actually. Hasn't Toby signed up already?

When PP presented Toby with his POTY award, he was half-jokingly, half-not-jokingly urging him to sign up for next season. So that tells me that Toby has not yet signed a new deal. The claim that he had done so came I think from a newspaper in Portsmouth.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: End of Season Awards - Fans Votes

Isaac Marriott probably has to win Young Player of the Season, but I'd be interested to see which way the main award goes.

I may be misremembering but didn't the criteria for Young Player used to be slightly more generous? Under 24 or something like that? By restricting it to 21 and under, we've ended up with a very narrow field.

Why is this news not on the club website?  Those of us who donít do social media would have no idea. It was the same with the full time announcement. I saw the post on here and had to go hunting for it to find out. It should be on the official website the same time it goes out to the socials.

Couldn't agree more.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Pre-season friendlies
« on: April 23, 2022, 10:21:37 AM »
The main reason we didn't play any higher opposition in friendlies last pre-season was that we couldn't play any home games, due to the pitch being replaced.

Sorry, yes, you're quite right. The point I made above about the mismatch between the NL and EFL seasons is the reason we couldn't play friendlies against EFL teams in preparation for last season.

The reason we didn't play any friendlies against League sides last season was because the EFL and NL seasons were not aligned, so teams would have been at different stages of preparation/fitness. Assuming the leagues' calendars are back in synch next season, I'm sure we'll be playing some EFL teams.

Not sure if this is going ahead, nobody from the club has replied to the post and I've not seen it advertised anywhere. I've still got the evening free, but not sure whether to do something else now.

I believe the event has been postponed till a later date.

Received my programme today and itís superb.

I dearly wish I could be there on Sunday. Itís the sort of thing we havenít done often enough for our long-serving greats - why did Coburn not get a testimonial for example?

The list of former players who are attending is going to make this a truly great occasion and Iíd encourage anyone who can get there to make the effort.

For me Gateshead will still win the league given they have only lost 3 times, could be a mid table conf team and serious competition next year, hoping for a flash in the pan to join them in the playoffs to make life easier next year

It's Brackley who've only lost three games this season. Gateshead have lost six.

Jordan Hulme is also a loanee. We absolutely MUST sign him for next season.

Doesn't his contract with Fylde run out at the end of the season? That should make things easier if so.
I believe it does yes & so very hopeful heíll be here on a full time basis next season. The fact Fyldeís new boss hasnít recalled him & theyíve still been winning suggests his time is up there.
Have we done that before? Sold a player and then signed them back on a free?

I think Gary Talbot is one - we sold him to Vics and then he came back to us not long after.

If Hulme is available he starts.

Alty 3-0 Aldershot ( Hulme X2 Colclough)

Attn 1874

Agree about Jordan - Josh was pretty quiet on Tuesday night too. Is Eddy Jones available again? - if so, I'd bring him back in too.

Given the (assumed) bumper crowd, the nice weather and the form of both teams - all points to a 0-1 defeat doesn't it  ::)

Wales U-21s play on Friday and Tuesday so Jones not available for this Saturday.

Taking over at Barrow.
It can't be the tango'd one who used to play for us surely? 🤔🤯
Help me out here folks.

It's okay. It's the ex Southend (Hull and Bolton) fella. I'd forgotten about him!

Bad enough having two Phil parkinsons! 😉

Are you thinking of Phil Power, who was Brown of skin colour but not actually called Phil Brown.

No. The one I had in my head was actually phil wilson who went on to manage Southport and others! He was a bit of a sunbed fanatic.

Sorry to all of you for my wonky head! 😜🤪

😂😂
Looking forward to the game tomorrow. First time in a while. Hope I'm up to it physically (mentally, I'm obviously not! 😉)

Phil Brown (the one who's taken over at Barrow) is no stranger to the sunbed himself. Is it something about Phils?

A conversation yesterday about the number of ex-league teams in our league made me think - how many of the teams who were in the league in 1987 (?) when automatic promotion was introduced have lost their place and who has replaced them?

In no particular order I think 15 have lost their place:

Wrexham, Southend, Notts county, Chesterfield, Torquay, Aldershot, Halifax, Grimsby, Stockport, Chester, Darlington, Hereford, York, Maidstone and Bury

But I can only think of 14 replacements:
Wycombe, Burton, Crawley, Stevenage, Morecambe, AFC Wimbledon, Accrington Stanley, Harrogate, Sutton, Fleetwood, Salford, Cheltenham, Barrow and FGR

Who am I missing or have I got an extra one in the first list?

It's interesting that half of that second list is now in League One, with FGR and Sutton in a good position to join them next season.

Maidstone Utd didn't enter the football league till 1989.
