Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Dale loan deal extended
« on: November 11, 2018, 08:39:15 PM »
Didn't we have a similar situation a few years ago with Ryan Shotton where we had to wait until January to sign him on loan until the end of the season?
I believe so. He had to go back to Stoke before returning for the rest of the season.

We got demolished in the game he wasn’t available for, possibly a 0-5 or 1-5 against Stevenage when Pat McFadden was the sole man up top for us between Christmas and new year.

I suspect too next Saturday we will be playing the eventual Champions, so will be an excellent benchmark for our young and improving team. We’ll definitely need to be clinical and have a bit of luck too.

The whole league is fascinating from top to bottom, so much better than a bankrolled club running away with it.

Chester are 11/1 to win the league with Paddy Power if you fancy following your convictions.

Not the first time he’s taken it upon himself to renovate the ground without club permission. Remember the ridiculous “scoreboard” crowdfunding he attempted to get off the ground without discussion with the board?

I’d be interested to hear what the grounds committee think of this.

As a (solely) mobile user, I think the new website is really good  and very user friendly.

As a platform it works very well. It’ll be more a test when it comes to the regular season and trying to find things then, but as it stands I’m impressed.

Altrincham FC First Team / Ashley Cricket Club Beer Festival
« on: July 10, 2018, 07:32:24 AM »
As ever, our friends at Ashley CC are holding their annual beer festival this weekend, opening the festivities with an Altrincham FC Supporters XI Vs Sale Sharks Supporters XI Twenty20 game on Friday night. It starts at 6pm, if anybody is interested in playing then please do get in touch, either by posting on this thread or sending me a personal message.

No previous cricketing experience required, players must be over 14.

Thanks, Mike.

That name isn't ringing any bells for me as regards the annals of former Altrincham FC players.

The only Steve Cropper that I've heard of is the esteemed guitarist in Booker T. & The M.G.s.

That’s where my mind went when the name was first mentioned as well. Thanks Cult.

Also, whilst we’re discussing former players, could somebody shed any light on Malcolm Cartlidge who played for us way back. Possibly as early as the 50s?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Question from the Archives
« on: July 01, 2018, 11:09:22 AM »
To revert to the original query - I've had a look thru my records for the 1980s & there's nobody of that name listed. Nearest I can get are
Steve Alman - one substitute appearance in 1981-2
Steve Buxton - four starts & five subs in 1985-6, scoring once
Steve Craven - two starts, scoring once in 1983-4
One other (very) long shot, nearer Kingy's time as manager than as player -
Steve Carroll - three starts & 15 subs in 1996-7
Hope that might help.

Thanks Mike.

The enquiry came through somebody else, so the surname may be incorrect, but I think Steve Carroll may well be our man. It was definitely mid 90s.

Loads of people say they played for Alty on a night out after a few beers to impress a girl ,but maybe he did

Yeah, thanks for that mate.

Any other help would be most appreciated.

Altrincham FC First Team / Question from the Archives

Does anyone know anything about a Steve Cropper that played for us, possibly Johnny Kings last season and the following one?

Any help much appreciated.

Agree with both previous posters. I’m concerned that some of the posts on this forum recently appear to be advocating the desirability of NOT actively seeking investment. If this view is shared at board level, we face a difficult future.
This thread has taken a very strange turn. I can't see where anybody is advocating that we should not be seeking investment. Stating the difficulties is simply pragmatism. See my earlier posts on other threads about the need for a high profile FA Cup run, and the publicity it would bring. That scenario is, to my mind, the best way to encourage investment. Roll out the bandwagon !

+ 100

You do realise that by writing +100, absolutelu nothing happens. The whole point of the “+1” is so that you’re acknowledging you agree without writing it all out in full.

ALSO, on another thread you put +1000, this one was +100 and on another thread it was +1000000 or something. I’m interested in how your agreement scale works.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Talking about investment...

As a seperate entity I do think the CSH has been a great success....

I hope moving forward it begins to be a real asset to the first team rather than a distraction...maybe this season we saw the beginnings of the community side start to reap dividends on match days....although alty fans have been pushed aside more than once for far more important community projects....
The ideology that the community side of the football club is more important than the 1st team is still unbalanced in my view.
But it is one more reason for a local wealthy businessperson to see an opportunity to be an investor a benefactor (amended to make it clear I am not thick enough to think putting money in alty or any other football club will see a year on year % yield)

Completely agree with you. The extra income from the CSH has been helping us ever since it opened, that was the plan  ;) ;D

The extra income from the CSH didn’t help us stay in the conference. Or the conference north. It helped us on our way to the lowest league position our club has ever been in because the board completely forgot that we are a football club, not a Darby and Joan Club.

Which leads us succinctly back to the point that the Chairman, whilst clapping himself on the back for the success of having the CSH, saw that as the end goal. Instead of allowing growth we have stagnated and there are massive rifts that could easily be solved if one man didn’t let his ego run away with him.

You said yourself that he wasn’t the right man for the job but “we have no alternative options”  yet you are here advocating the fact he is actively blocking investment and a new chairman. Odd.

Would love to tick Hereford off.

Conversely, I missed leamington last year so I would love to go here. Edgar street is a big old ground at Hereford and quite quirky. Went there for a 0-0 draw in 05 in a game that Graham Heathcote said was “the only one I’ve ever set out to be intentionally negative in”. I’ve got a friend that’s a Hereford fan, so I’d be happy with either.

Not my decision , but I'm sure that wouldn't be in the best interest of a new pitch.

Has a new pitch been laid Bryan?

Understand why you would both say that, but I’m not so sure. The attendance tonight was only about 50 down on our midweek average for the whole season. Which I thought was decent enough considering the circumstances - a nothing game for both sides, arranged at 24 hours notice.

Clearly the crowd would have been larger if the game had been played the previous evening as scheduled, but the difference probably wouldn’t have been that substantial.

Whilst you’re probably right Matt (as you are with the vast majority of your forum posts may I add), the number in “real terms” will almost certainly have been down, considering season ticket holders are counted, whether they attend or not.
