Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Monthly draw
« on: March 07, 2024, 01:48:58 PM »
As some of you know I live in the south east. I have won the hospitality for two twice but been unable to attend so each time requested either a cheaper alternative or for it to be offered to a club stalwart who might really appreciate it. On neither occasion did I receive a response from the club which I find to be at best amateurish and at worst rude.

.
.

Hello SW,

On this week's AFC Comms Call,John Edwards has made the comms group aware that you didn't receive a response to either of your emails sent to the office@ eddress at the club.

We discussed both issues and I would like to reply as follows:-

Your first email should have been responded to by one of the two people who handled incoming emails to that address at that time.
Clearly that didn't happen and I would like to apologise for this on behalf of the football club.

The two people who previously handled messages received to the office@ email address, no longer do so and we are not aware where these emails are going to, if anywhere.
Levi Gill (Process Improvement & Operations Manager) will look into this to ascertain where your second email went and we will report back to you.
Without wishing to prejudge, the second issue may be a process, rather than an efficiency, issue.

To answer your original question, you have a number of options regarding your matchday hospitality for two people:-

1) If you are planning to attend any future home games, you can take your prizes then.
2) You can transfer your prizes to friends or Altrincham FC volunteers of your choosing.
3) We can choose four Altrincham FC volunteers to receive your prizes.
4) We can send you a club scarf & £25 or £50 (2 x £25) as an alternative.

Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention, which is very helpful, both in terms of helping us resolve your issues and preventing any future reoccurrences.

Kind regards
Brian

Kidderminster in hot form - can see it being a Chester v Kiddy final. We can resume our annual dire trip to Aggborough with a great consolation pie...

Sadly, this did not appear to end well, following the death of Brian Murdoch during COVID.
Brian & his wife Joan ran what is still the finest food outlet I have experienced to date at a football ground anywhere in the world:-

"He comes in Bimmo's car - he's gonna be a star".

His career reached a new peak this evening as he captained Stevenage to a 2-1 FA Cup 3rd round victory at Premier League Aston Villa.

He was superb, as were Stevenage.

Whilst we're on the topic of loans expiring, Chester have a lad called Charlie Caton on loan from Shrewbury who seems to have done well - expires 28th.

I'm sure Shrewsbury would be keen on trying him a level upwards if the option is there.

I watched the Kidderminster Harriers v Chester game on Wednesday night on BT Sport & he looked decent.

As did Chester, who are now a very good footballing side under Calum McIntyre.

It'd be very Parkinson to quietly extend the loan in the background

Has that happened previously?

« on: November 29, 2022, 08:09:14 AM »
Your'e on the right track . We hastily arranged  a CSC tie v Macc to clear Jeff Johnson for the Orient replay as he was on a one match ban from his sending off in the first game and our 'reserves' won i believe ( we still got fined ) 🙂

We played at Macclesfield on the Monday after the Orient replay, which I believe was the originally scheduled date of the game i.e. we decided not to rearrange the game to enable Jeff Johnson to serve his 1 match suspension. I have a recollection of Graham Heathcote returning from injury & playing about 30 minutes before being withdrawn, having proved his fitness, to enable him to play at Brisbane Road in the replay 48 hours later.
From memory, Phil Wilson was the only other first team player that was involved & he scored a magnificent goal with a curling right foot shot from about 25 yards to make it 1-1, which was the final score.I can't remember the replay but have a feeling that we won.

Woking are a proper bogey team, arent they. But that said, we need to go there keep confidence high.

Are they?

Its not really "live" commentary? I'm getting it about 2 minutes behind? Or is it just me.

All 'live' commentaries have a lag. If you are watching a game on Sky Sports/BT Sport/BBC/ITV etc then what you are watching takes time to transmit, typically 20-30 seconds.

When we were 'live' on BT Sport last season against Solihull, I had the BT Sport programme on my laptop at the top of the main stand & it was about 30 seconds behind throughout the programme, which was very helpful for our commentary.

It was the same at Old Trafford when I did commentaries at a couple of FA Youth Cup games earlier this year. Each media position has a TV monitor, which is about 20-30 seconds behind the action on the pitch.

I check RadioAlty at the start of the broadcast & several times during it. The delay is normally about 20-30 seconds, which is what it was consistently for me yesterday.

In some instances, the delay can be longer & I assume that this is down to the specific internet connection.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Scunny Post Match Interview
« on: September 15, 2022, 12:27:38 PM »
I've got to say, when the transition was announced in May I did envision us signing the likes of Nick Haughton, Danny Elliott, Sam Minihan, Matty Warburton, Kurt Willoughby, Elliot Newby and so on. Those tried and tested full-time footballers in the northwest that have historically been on the circuit at the likes of Chester, York, Halifax. I presumed our aim was to go full-time and start competing with these sorts of clubs for those sorts of players. Players that would improve us and provide stability in our inaugural season.

Regardless of whether we've competed for them and come up short, or simply not had the resources to do so - for me if we're going full-time and not able to attract that calibre of player to the club then the whole model and transition is a massive gamble. There are no two ways about that.

Now, I wasn't expecting a squad of Galacticos and I knew there would have to be an element of Moneyball to make this work, but there's only really Josh Lundstram, James Jones and Ross Barrows who have come in and provided reliable experience at this level or above? Look at what we've lost in the other direction and there's a huge vacuum of experience and leadership. Players like Moult, Hancock, Densmore, Thompson will not have been here on peanuts. Where has that money gone, when you look at this squad now?

We're weaker now than when we had a part-time squad, regardless of the spin that's put on it. The interview lauds the signing of Byrne which does look like a strong one, but we've replaced Densmore with a lad who had nothing to do but Alty TV commentary on Tuesday night. You could argue that we actually attracted better 'full-time' players when we were part-time when you look at the acquisitions of Alistair Smith, Joel Senior, Ryan Colclough, Kyle Ferguson, Dan Mooney, Matty Kosylo... So that draws into question whether our budget is actually worse off now we're having to account for full-time wages across a bigger squad and more backroom staff. It might be naïve of me to make that point.

I've still got faith in the full-time model as it stands, and still generally believe that it was a decision the club (not Parky, as some seem to believe he forced us into this?) had to make. This was not going to be an easy ride, going full-time is not a switch you flick to immediately progress and fly up the table, but I'd be lying if I said our start to the season hasn't introduced some serious doubt about it all. We've replaced Mooney, Hancock and Kosylo's injury with kids on loan and free agents who are probably here to get fit and f**k off.

I predicted 17th and I would be delighted with it based on what I've seen so far, and those who know me will know I'm the eternal optimist when it comes to anything about Alty. It's absolutely vital that we stay up this season and if we do, with this current squad, I think it'll be Phil & Neil's greatest achievement to date. All of the above said, there's still part of me that's expecting to win on Saturday and go on a 10 game unbeaten run. We've always been that sort of side and it really could just be confidence. I just don't know what to think at the moment.

For information, if a player is working on Alty TV or Radio Robins, he is either injured or suspended.

Followed the game on Twitter and just read the match report and Colclough has not had a mention, this is very worrying.

Ryan was quiet in the first & last quarter of the game, but was our most influential player during the middle two quarters, particularly the second quarter.
