Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Ecky
« on: August 10, 2020, 07:54:04 PM »
Some lovely tributes here, what more can be said?

Such a sad day for anybody connected with Alty. A genuine, kind hearted man and one of the funniest people I've ever met. Was an absolute honour to call Ecky a friend over the last 25 years.

To me, he simply was Mr Alty and had red and white striped blood running through his veins. Every high, every low, Ecky was there, a constant, calming figure, often amongst chaos

So many wonderful stories to be shared another day.

I'm just so pleased that Ecky was able to watch Alty get promoted last week, i know how much it meant to him to see us back where we belong. As we all were, he was over the moon.

Rest easy my mate. Wherever you are, I hope you and Martin are having a right laugh. I'll be raising a glass tonight.

It's not just about gate receipts though. In response to a fall in income the price of pies and drinks have been jacked up. Sky sports subscription is not cheap for a sports club. That has been binned for the season. There have been adjustments made to the staff rosta. It's all part and parcel of balancing the books.

It looks to me that the board are managing the budget at the moment albeit by eating into reserves to some extent.

Why would the board of the football club be managing the CSH's expenditure on Sky Sports and similar costs accordingly? Its ran by a seperate company, isn't it? So shouldn't impact on the ballancing of football club finances.

Whatever happens today, Damien Reeves should be given a rousing round of applause as he exits the field (assuming he features).

Say what you want about this season but he's been a great servant to the club, may never see a player score 40 goals for us in a season in my lifetime.

For me he should start today and get subbed with 2 minutes to go to allow us to show our appreciation.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: New Manager for next season

What a strange couple of hours. From the reaction on social media you'd think the majority of our fanbase is located in Warrington. Its the correct decision to let Matt and Robbie go, as has been noted elsewhere the results haven't justified a permanent appointment. This is without taking into account the embarrasing reaction on twitter and facebook and the apparent 'outing' of our new manager by associates of MD.

If the twitter rumours are true and the new manager does turn out to be Nantwich's Phil Parkinson then Nantwich really need to be getting promoted this week if this is to be a credible appointment. If they don't then the statement issued today by the board would seem odd and certainly in my view open themselves up to further.criticism as they've stated they want a manager with experience and a track record of success.

Yet Phil Parkinson (and i'm not intentionally trying to criticise an appointment before its even been made, just observations) is only 36 and barring a decent FA Trophy run has no track record of success either as a player or manager unless he leads them to promotion in the next week or so.

Time will tell of course. If it is Phil Parkinson then for all of our sakes we need him to be a success.

« on: April 12, 2017, 09:17:48 PM »
Fair points mate but I think we were overpriced last season (taking away performances and the obvious gags) when we should have been £12 so a £2 drop would not have been as extreme.

I've always found the admission price to be a sticking point when talking to people about coming down, I think a round tenner works on a lot of levels.

I keep on banging on about the word relaunch as that is what the club needs and I think this price will help to attract new people if we can get a few wins early doors and a new leader to unite us.

Agree Ecky re the price being a sticking point in gettimg people to.come down. However i think thats more damning about the overall price in this country rather than being Alty specific. But given things are as they are, i'd have no qualms about us being the most expensive by a couple of quid if its goal was to get us back to where we need to be.

I'll probably get hammered for this as the overall reaction seems to be that reducing the prices by such a margin is a positive step. For me the board have gone too far though.

This line of the statement stood out to me... "In keeping with most evostik top flight teans matchday entry for adults has been set at £10".

Well i couldn't care less what most other top flight Evostik teams charge, we're Altrincham Football Club, the biggest side in that league, we shouldn't be 'in keeping' with anyone down there. (Don't remember Oxford dropping there prices by 28.5% upon there plummet to the Conference). And on the basis of giving something back to the fans? Sounds the board are trying to score cheap points to me.

Additionally, i think they need to think longer term. Hopefully we'll bounce straight back up, are the board then going to raise prices by 28.5% in order to be competitive at the top end of the Conference North? Doubtful, what board would get away with that? Its the acceptence of playing at reduced levels this. As is this drinking on this terrace nonsense (good luck trying to get that cat back in the bag if we ever return to proper football and have a big game).

For me, there's no way we should have dropped below £12. I'm not interested if that means someone goes to watch Ashton instead or it upsets 20 Rushall fans on there big day out. Fans will pay to watch a winning side whether it be £12 or £10.

Of course, all this is irrelevant if Rowley remains in position following this board meeting in May. They could charge a quid for all ages and i and countless others wouldn't pay it. If he rightly steps down, the hardcore which we are reduced to given the estimate of Saturdays 'real' crowd will go regardless, as will many of those that are staying away.

Why are interviews being conducted in April? Once again we're going to get the runt of the litter based upon those out of a job at this time of year like evidently happened last season along with the Doughty/Lawton ticket which the chairman appears to be fixed upon.

We've learnt nothing.

What manager worth there salt currently in employment will apply for the job before the season has finished?

I'll be amazed if Doughty doesn't get the gig.

I imagine our Football Development Officer had something to do with that.

I must confess that I do find it somewhat bewildering that our Football Development Officer, one Neil Tolson Esq., also happens to be on the current coaching staff of one of our rivals in this division.

Isn't this rather a potential conflict of interest?

I thought that Neil Tolson had left whatever role at the club that he held upon his appointment at Stalybridge?

This news item from our official website dated 13th February certainly seems to indicate as much.

'Stalybridge Celtic report that "Steve Burr has confirmed today that [former Altrincham acting manager] Neil Tolson will join his backroom staff at the club."
Since the end of last season Neil has been coaching for the Altrincham FC Community initiative.

Neil joined Altrincham under the management of Lee Sinnott at the beginning of June 2011, as Assistant Manager. Following the departure of Lee Sinnott, Neil became caretaker Manager from 9 March 2016 but, over the final eleven games of the season, he was unable to keep the club in the national division of the National League.

Altrincham FC thanks Neil for his services and wishes him well in his new role
'

I'd absolutely say that it's a conflict of interest if he has remained in post.

As it stands, the current league record since LS left post is...

Played 34
Won 4
Drawn 6
Lost 24
For 30
Against 63
Points 18

Farce

I think those stats exclude Neil Young's glorious reign - it's actually W4 D9 L27.

You are quite correct, my apologies.

My stats only show our league record during Matt Doughty's involvement as coach/manager.

Couldn't care less what his background is.

The more pressing issue is why are the 3 amigo's being allowed to spend more money on a hopeless situation.

At this stage they may aswell play this kid Jones and give him the chance to show what he can do. On the flipside, if these 3 clowns don't trust Jones to cope with starting football games at this level then he shouldn't be at the club in the first place.

If Deasy isn't fit then leave him out until he is,we may as well try and get him fully fit for next season.

But Deasy will never be fully fit, as has been proven over the past 18 months he's mostly been with us. Which makes handing him a deal until the end of next season all the more inexplicable.

Wonder how much Buzz knows of him? Surely a Heathcote signing?
