Really looking forward to this. I suppose it has to be the same starting 11. Really hope Jones is fit, he has really impressed me since arriving at Alty. The huge bonus is that he is a young centre back who keeps improving.
We have a strong squad and shouldn't fear them. I hope we don't approach the game reserved. I feel we are far more dangerous to teams when we allow our full backs to get high up the pitch. Allows JJ and Dale to get in more dangerous positions as Dale was on Saturday.
Come on lads.

Jones has always been very promising and I'm delighted he's now showing that potential - I never would have thought last season that we'd cope with missing Harrison.

When was the last time we played Stockport in the FA Cup?  In fact, have we EVER played them?

How long before Gabbidon is in the first XI squad?

The footage was a distance but he looks quick, very good dribbling with the ball and decent finishes. Hope he progresses and we see the lad step up. My concern is when everyone is fit is the limited sub numbers.

It's a nice problem to have - especially having to watch the threadbare squads Sinnott used to put together (or even the predicament we found ourselves in earlier this season).

Fair play to them, they seem to be fiercely sticking to their roots where they can.

I've seen them at the Plaza a couple of times when they've opened their tours, been very enjoyable.

I also suspect our contract wont include bottle bars and other areas of the ground

Mainly because the snack bars were t permitted to sell alcohol when the contract is signed and package and draft contracts are usually separate entities (even if there is cross over between the two)

Our first phone call when the contract is up for tender should be to Heineken. So many brands in their portfolio including the aptly branded red stripe, who Im sure could be convinced to do some pretty slick activations

Its a pretty poor contract weve signed for it to last this long - CSH funding or no CSH funding

Even just having cans of Red Stripe in the firdge (which I suspect a fair few would opt for) would speed things up at half time. The profit margins involved are great as well I assume.

In the era of Brewdog (as much as I don't like them specifically) we definitely need some sort of IPA on the go.
5  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Alty TV - Highlights and Jordan Hulme Interview on: October 16, 2018, 08:47:51 AM
I have not been as confident we will score when an Alty forward has the ball in a decent position as I am when Hulme gets it since Colin Little left

Maybe, but I think Jordan has some work to do yet to catch Reevesy - many of who's goals came in Conf National.....help needed here from a statto

The difference in body language between the pair when they play couldn't be any different! I must say I prefer Jordan's, it's exactly what we need - a bit of a nutter like we had in the old days. Don't even mind that he gets booked all the time to be honest.

Would be good for the club to modernise and have a 'trendier' lager on tap - perhaps even just Amstel - as well as some sort of IPA.

Fosters and San Miguel is a rubbish choice in this day and age.

Then again, if the problem lies with the kegs not being pulled through the week, it's probably not worth having anything too nice.

It's really not toys and prays though is it.

It's just someone trying to run a business that is beneficial to their target market. Filling the long distance trains with short hop shoppers isn't the plan.

It's the same with Watford Junction at the other end.

The original plan was not to stop at Stockport at all.  After all it's only six minutes down the line from Picadilly. It is rather strange considering the trains only stop at three other stations between Manchester and London.

It's a godsend for people like me that live in that neck of the woods and travel to London with work regularly - don't have to fight in and out of town after what has usually been a long day.

The release date is less than 3 weeks away, and of course Alty will be included again properly.

How do you think our squad will fare at this level?  Who is doing our ratings?

From experience, newly promoted teams (unless they have been publicly heavy backed) tend to struggle - possibly so the game doesn't get too lopsided in later years - which meant Alty kept on appearing and reappearing in the NLN last year on my Salford save.

Surely Hulme should be highly rated, and one or two others?  Also I remember players moving down from bigger clubs tended to be strong as their own FM scout will have rated him at their own level.

I played Mobile last year, it was rubbish a few years ago but now it's just right in terms of level of detail (much like the classic CM 01/02 version) but with the big database to go with it.

Harrop, Dale, Hulme, Williams all looking superb in that first half.

I haven't managed to go in the last few weeks - am I right in assuming we've reverted back to a 3-man midfield (which wasn't quite coming off in earlier weeks), with Harrop and Williams in front of Moult, rather than 4231 and a No10?

Dunston v Gateshead live on the bbc. The correct choice

Very much so, and I thought Dunston should have had the coverage in the previous round (which probably would have ruled them out for this round) to see their excellent result against Chester.

On pubs, I think Stockport is one of the best drinking towns in Britain. There are two concentrations of good pubs and bars. One is to the north side of the town centre along the A6, including the Magnet and Hope. The other is to the east of the station, around the Market Place, and that includes my own favourite, the Petersgate Tap, on St Petersgate. That's a modern bar, not unlike Costello's, which has 6 handpumps, always including Hawkshead Windermere Pale, 4 craft keg lines, and traditional cider too. Without going on at length, there are several other choices too, in both areas.

This article pretty much covers them all actually (including the Blossoms, named after the band of course, which is a bit of a trek further down the other way).

Have we sent Daniels and Dale back now? I think I've missed where we're up to with these.
12  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stockport away on: October 08, 2018, 02:01:19 PM
Is this confirmed as 20th October?

Yes I don't think they really mess around with the games at this point (although I think the chosen 5 Live game goes to lunchtime).

Great one for me, this! 20 mins into Stockport on the bus from my door, and probably head for the Magnet on the A6 - great boozer.
13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: FA Cup draw live on TalkSport 2 at 12pm on: October 08, 2018, 10:42:09 AM
I reckon we should consider ourselves favourites against most teams in our league if drawn at home (bar Chorley), but to be on the safe side, home draw against:

Dunston UTS
Witton Albion

...and even then I'd want to avoid Dunston, Kettering and Warrington as they're going too well in their respective leagues (plus we never do well against Witton and Workington).

Doesn't leave much  Cheesy
14  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Bernard Taylor RIP on: October 01, 2018, 04:28:03 PM
RIP Bernard - some of my earliest memories of Alty were that Unibond championship and him coming over to embrace the fans in the Golf Road End.

Kenny will be giving him some grief already

15  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: BPA at home FA Cup qualifying on: September 25, 2018, 08:27:16 AM
BPA seem to be a very similar team to ourselves in a lot of ways - which probably helps when we play them as we never seem to do too bad.

Not a bad draw and I'd like to think we'd be slight favourites.
