Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Whose for the drop?
« on: June 27, 2023, 11:14:51 PM »
It wouldn't surprise me to see either Rochdale or Hartlepool in the relegation mix.

Hartlepool won’t be, Askey really knows the division & what it takes. Rochdale on the other hand…

Met a couple of Hartlepool fans in work the other day; they were not confident with their manager having, apparently, brought quite a few players down with him from Scotland.

Wasn't his last job at York?

That's what I thought. Maybe he just has contacts or links.
Either way, I was surprised about their pessimism.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Moss Lane on canvas
« on: May 14, 2023, 11:38:13 PM »
I'm unable to visit Moss Lane in person anymore, due to being on the other side of the world, so I thought the next best thing was to bring the J. Davidson Stadium to me.

I just received a lovely canvas painting of the stadium, which I've put on the wall. I bought it from this chap, who seems to be supremely talented: https://www.jkmartwork.com/altrincham-fc-240-c.asp

I was hoping to post a picture of it hanging on my lounge wall, but I can't work out how to insert an image! Trust me, it looks great.

Excuses excuses!  ;) ;) ;)

On the keeper front TT wasnt great in his first season but then improved massiveley .Perhaps the same will happen with Byrne .

It's a valid point. TT was a scapegoat on the forum on a regular basis at one point. That said, if the right player becomes available I'd like to think we'd explore it.

I think a defensive issue we had was the keeper's comminication and domination of the area: not sure the defenders had the confidence in Byrne on crosses and corners etc.

This can be remedied with training as long as Byrne and Gould have this adaptability.

If Alty were ever subject to a Hollywood / celebrity Wrexham style takeover, who would you want it to be?

A Stallone / Schwarzenegger double act could be good….

With Stallone joining the playing staff in goal!
He can save a penalty, but is unsure where to stand for corners!

All solid defences have a reliable keeper which then instills confidence in the rest of the defence, I’m of the opinion that the lack of a keeper who bosses his six yard box is a problem which in turn spreads uncertainty in the back line.

And THAT is a most pertinent of comments. One GK can improve any number of defenders.

As Saughall, still a bit bitter. First time in 30+ years I've wanted a team who has beaten us in a cup tie to lose in the next round.

Not the first time I've felt like that, but I certainly want Gateshead to win the Final.

I go for the idea that, if we have to lose, can we at least lose to the winners.

Of course any work extending or even modernising the ground would get complaints from the sort of locals who buy a house near a football ground then complain there is a football ground nearby!!!

You know the sort: who buy a house by a church and complain about the bells or a house in the country and complain about farmyard noises!

Very true. Unfortunately, there are people like that who just complain as a sort of reflex (I am sure I remember there  even being complaints when we had plans for shorter floodlight pylons with lights which had less spillage, if that's the right term).

As people have already said, there aren't really alternative sites in the town, and it would be foolish to move out, so we would have to try to work with or around these people, and try to win over the more reasonable - perhaps emphasising how any developments improve the appearance of the ground? Not a great answer, but I think that's where we are.

Agreed.

Wasn't there talk of the pitch being flipped 90 degrees at one point?

On the face of it, makes sense - would give us room to have deeper stands running down each length of the pitch, and would probably just about miss the telecommunications mast - but it would go quite far into the allotment, and obviously they're under no obligation to sell.
yes this is my plan but requires a big euromillions win.  Some concern about buying up the allotments, the new houses make this difficult.
I suspect we would have to go out of town to build from scratch, how about just off the new M56 junction, plenty of space

But difficult to get to without  car.
Land behind the 6th form/art college off delahays Rd/Green Lane?

Whatever the development, let's hope it develops significantly quicker than Altair!
