An excellent performance against more experienced opposition with some excellent goals scored

A summary of yesterday's AFCL fixture

Altrincham welcomed Curzon Ashton to a cold and crisp Mersey Valley for their final home fixture of 2017

Curzon had convincingly beaten the Ladies earlier in the season and arrived in confident mood

Kick off was heralded by flurries of snow which would become more intense as the afternoon progressed

Curzon started more brightly and took the leaad from the penalty spot after five minutes following a mistimed challenge by Bliss Molyneaux.

Slowly and steadily though Alty got back into the game, sticking by their footballing principles despite the challenging conditions. This bore fruit just after the half hour when some impressive build up play allowed Laura Dodds to deliver a cross from the Alty right. In an attempt to thwart Megan Rowley at the fron post  an unfortunate Curzon defender succedded only in putting the ball past her own keeper and over the line.

The snow continued to fall increasingly heavily yet both teams made light of it continuing to provide an open and entertaining contest.

After some wise words at half time Alty resumed very much on the gfront foot and took the lead through an excellent twent yard shot by Laura Dodds on fifty two minutes.

Five minutes later the lead was doubled, Megan Rowley cutting in from the left to place an unstoppable strike into the top far corner of the net.

Curzon stepped up the pressure once again hitting the Alty crossbar on sixty seven minutes before forcing a fine point blank save from Esther Hernandez.

Three became four on seventy six minutes . A rasping drive by Hannah Shufflebotham was excellently saved but Kye Brown was alert, following up to tuck away the rebound.

Three minutes after this however Curzon struck to reduce the deficit. Esther Hernandez got down well to push away a fierce shot  but unfortunately the ball fell into the path of the advancing Curzon striker who converted the chance with ease.

Another five minutes had elapsed when what seemed to be an extremely harsh penalty was awrded, giving Curzon the opportunity to further reduce the difference between the sides. This was excellently despatched, bringing the score to 4-3 and increasing the pressure on the home side.

A combination of resolute defending and intelligent game management allowed Altrincham to see the game out and secure all the points.

Credit is due to both teams for producing an exciting and thoroughly entertaing game in what were at times extremely challenging conditions.

Every Altrincham player contributed handsomely to the performance and result but the Management Player of the Match was deservedly awarded to Gail Simpson for an outstanding performance, covering every blade of grass and seemingly every flake of snow in the middle of the field.

Firstly the problem appears to be, as it has been since the days when Jack Thorpe was groundsman, the height of the water table.

Anyone with a sensible solution to that please step forward.

Secondly,Jamie and Martin, if you REALLY think that nothing has been done to try to get the game on today then your level of delusion exceeds all my estimates.

Thirdly can someone explain what value putting covers on after the event would have other than sealing the water in and killing the grass.

We play a winter sport in winter weather and stuff like this happens.  sorry but that's just an unfortunate truth

There werer Football Lwage games which fell victim to the weather - today too

Another excellent performance from the team yesterday with goals from Maddie Mackay, Nat Thornley and Courtney Williams

Every player made a significant contribution to the eventual outcome

It was nice to see some of the regular "first" team supporters coming downt too to get their first viewing of the Development Team

Please don't be shy...come again if you enjoyed it

Here are the highlights of The Ladies Magnificent point at FCUM

Understandably there is a bit of a slant toward the hosts, it is their video after all, however Kye's brilliant goal and a variety of Esther's superb keeping figure as well

Enjoy!

A magnificent effort from all fifteen players, not forgetting our brilliant (if a tad outnumbered) support.

A day to be proud to be Alty I believe

Despite a reduced margin if victory, albeit against a significantly improved Macclesfield side, the nature of the performance was extremely pleasing.

Belying a challenging surface the ball was played around spendidly with some of the movements put together a joy to behold.

Goalscorers were

Natalie Thornley (2)
Nicole Grainger (2)
Aimee Kelly
Courtney Williams
Jess Harding
& an Own Goal

Good win for the Development Squad who didn't let up the pressure, pushing on until the final whistle

A mention too must go to Macclesfield who continued to play with commendable spirit and perseverance for the entire game despite the score. Moreover, unlike some teams we have met in the past, they never resorted to over physical tactics.

Next Sunday we host Macclesfield in the reverse fixture

Ref actually from a lower level than us
Red was probably correct in law although quite soft IMHO
I think he then totally lost the game
I anticipate a less than optimal mark

Goalscorers for the Development Team were Emma Quigley, Bethany Johnson and Maddie Mackay

I would contend that Alty Development were the better side on the day.

Three excellent goals were scored and the Alty players "bossed" the game despite managing only a draw

Goalscorers were Sabrina Hoystead and Courtney Williams (2)

A very creditable performance against a more experienced and robust team on Sunday.

The young Lady Robins stood up well to an examination of their temperament and physical resilience in all probability playing the better football over the piece

Inexperience of game management seemed ultimately to be their downfall

Again though some very good performances

As has been said earlier the Development Team (who were incidentally the better side from start to finish IMHO) came back very well from an early setback to  "boss the game" and win probably more convincingly than the scoreline suggests.

Two goals by Sabrina showing differing attributes to her game and an excellent header by Courtney did the trick.

I have watched the majority of the players over the past two seasons and, if you find yourself with some spare time on a Sunday afternoon when they are at home I wouldn't hesitate to recommend doing so

Could someone please tell me when the Chairman either played for the team or indeed picked the team

Interestingly enough I wonder what the outcome on here would be if he had or did?

Anti Chairman (Which should of course really be anti board) campaign is now getting very very tiresome and bemuses a significant number of non Alty fans, although arguably the boycotts of games and bar are strange actions for purportedly Alty fans

As I have said before I will support the Club whoever is in charge and at whatever level we find ourselves
