Altrincham FC First Team / The new pitch - and today's weather
« on: July 28, 2021, 03:09:36 PM »
It would be interesting to see some photos early this evening to show how the pitch has coped with this afternoon's torrential thunderstorms. If this had been a match night last season we'd be postponed for sure.

Altrincham FC First Team / Eastleigh match thread
« on: May 04, 2021, 01:41:51 PM »
I think we need to start the XI that comes closest to our intended start to next season. Those marked * in my selection would be replaced with a decent newly-signed full time player if possible.

                                                       Thompson *

Senior.                       Mullarkey *.                Hannigan.              Hampson

Kosylo.                     Smith.                           Moult.                    Colclough

                                                          Hancock

                                                          Peers *

Not all of the above are likely to be fit, so there will have to be a number of changes. I'd guess Sutton * for Hannigan, Ogle for Hampson, and Kirby for Kosylo. I'd like us to keep Ogle, and if Kirby were available I'd consider him too.

We need to sign (full time) a really good keeper, a dominant central defender, a younger midfielder to understudy Moult, and two proven goalscorers.

I think it's safe to assume that Dover Athletic won't be gracing us with their presence. Would the League allow a rearranged fixture on that date ? Barnet should have been playing Macclesfield, and haven't been here yet.

Altrincham FC First Team / Wealdstone - a sorry saga
« on: February 07, 2021, 09:41:39 AM »
When we played our rearranged league fixture at Grosvenor Vale back in November, our 1-0 defeat was the fourth in a series of five straight league wins for the hosts. The story behind manager Dean Brennan's departure - both versions of it - can be found on John Laidlar's site, and it comes in the wake of a run of only 5 points from their last 11 league games.

Who is the REAL villain of the piece ? The evidence seems to point to Brennan's assistant Stuart Maynard, who appears to have been cosying up to the chairman behind his back. Brennan claims he was made promises, and turned down an approach from another club (Barnet ?) to stay at Wealdstone. Certainly the sudden departure of two other members of the coaching staff, along with four recently signed players, and the return of another former coach - all within a couple of days - seems to point to skullduggery at boardroom level.

How much has all of this affected the players ? The 4-1 Trophy defeat at Darlington yesterday would indicate that there's more pain in store yet for Wealdstone's supporters.

It's good to be an Alty fan, and all the better when some of our rival clubs couldn't organise the proverbial brewery event.

Altrincham FC First Team / Late goals (continued)
« on: January 11, 2021, 11:27:33 PM »
Following on from the discussion in the Sutton match thread, I've had a quick analysis of when we scored the 20 goals we've notched in the league so far. As I suspected, 12 have been scored in the 62nd minute or later.

Of the other 8, we've scored two in the 10th and 11th minutes, four between the16th and 31st minutes, and two between the 39th minute and half time.

So we've not got off to a flying start to either half of any game - no goals before the 10th minute, nor in the opening 16 minutes of the second half. It may all be coincidence - or it may be that we're taking a while to get into our rhythm from "cold".

Altrincham FC First Team / James Jones

Stretchered off at Carlisle yesterday. His opponent was red carded, but the injury seemed to be caused by landing flat on his back in the aftermath rather than by the foul itself. Been on Barrow's forum this morning but nobody knows the extent of the problem. Here's hoping it isn't too serious.
