A great watch today, and after watching the Blackpool game and this game you should be really excited about this season.
In particular the midfield, last season with Jake (and others) playing deep we left big spaces in midfield and let other teams come at us.
Today was completely different, we flooded the midlfield Simon with his energy, man of the match performance by Sean and Connor lying slightly deeper knocking the ball around, giving us exactly what we were missing from last season.
It was interesting how long PP played this formation, he is abviously thinking about this for the start of the season, and  the formation looked like the outcome of a well thought through pre-season.
Hopefully Simon is OK after he went off, I saw him walking around after the game.
Would have liked to have seen Chadwick get some time, especially after it proved difficult for JJ today, and also agree with the comments about Mullarky, he looks class.
Fylde were very cynical, shirt pulling, late challenges and deliberate fouls, but I guess this is what you will come up against if you go higher.
I think the best teams have the strongest subs bench, and for me that is us now, some decisions about Walters and Chadwick will be interesting but it is really coming together.
I really hope this season we have a decent cup run somewhere, that is what we need to get attendances up.

Just to echo the comments about Matt Chadwick, from above, a great performance, looked fit, was an outlet all though the first half, created the first goal, won the penalty and scored the goal.
I understand he is not signed up yet, a pretty easy decision after today.

I would prefer Chester. Should be a better crowd.
And the atmosphere at Chester last year was brilliant. Would be even better on Boxing Day.

Quicker the better. Got big gaps in my week until July

Exactly, after a few brilliant, exciting weeks how dull are the next few weeks going to be? When does the new season start?

We've got a great squad that doesn't need much tweaking. I agree with an earlier post about Williams - tidy and industrious but doesn't power forward in the way that, say, Richman does. I don't think he quite suits our style of play. TT will doubtless start as number one next season given his end of season form and I wouldn't be surprised to see Drench leave. I'd like to see a permanent left winger rather than a succession of loans, no matter how successful they have been. Also, as much as I like JJ, a winger who can cross accurately and consistently would be good!

Thoroughly enjoyed this season and its brilliant to see the buzz about the place again with supporters old and new really buying into the club. My thanks to all involved, can't wait till next season.

I think the one area of the team we need to think about for next season is the midfield. As you say Williams is a decent player, but with Jake sitting in front of the back four we need someone to move the ball forward in midfield. When Sean has done that he has looked really good, Stockport in the FA Cup in the first half springs to mind, when he was picking the ball up and distributing it. This is the key, too often this season, we have seen Jake and Sean playing deep and there is a big gap between our midfield and Hancock / Hulme up front.
I think Sean can be the answer, I think he brings the ball out well, we just need to get our midfield playing further up the pitch. When we have struggled this season, teams have had midfielders carrying the ball and we are playing too deep giving them space.

I know what you are saying about JJ getting the cross in, but overall he has been brilliant this season, he has been our main outlet, and you can see when our players get the ball in midfield they just look to get it wide to him. For me JJ is definately a starter.

The defence is rock solid, if we can keep all six of them (4 usual starters, plus Shaun & Ben),  midfield is OK, although I wouldn't mind someoone who acn carry the ball and certainly the left winger is a question.

For me the main hope is just to keep what we have.

Agreed, it could be very open next season, without Stockport, Chorley / Spennymore, you wonder who would be favourites for the league ?
There are a few of sleping giants, York, Chester and Hereford, and you wonder if they will get their act together. Whilst Blyth looked a great team, they have a poor attendance figures (ave. 801), and Brackley have an average of 645, so you question wether they can continue to challenge.

A massive performance to be proud of. The sending off changed the game, it looked like Hancock just slid in for a challenge, so couldn’t see why it was a red.
There were some strange decisions from the referee, Chorley were continually fouling in the first half, and he took no action.
I thought we were immense in defence today James Jones was a rock, Tom produced was his usual solid performance. Simon Richman ran all over the pitch and JJ was excellent before he was substituted.
I couldn’t understand some of the substitutions, JJ was creating havoc down the wing, and Shaun was driving the ball forward in the midfield.
But hey, whilst it is the end of the season for us, we can look back with pride, but for a debatable sending off, we would have gone through, the fans created a great atmosphere, and we have had some great memories this season.
We can build on this next year, we have strengthened the squad over this season, James Poole will be back, and a couple of the stronger teams will be promoted and out of the league.
It will be interesting to see the retained list and what PP does over the summer.

I think when you watch the video you realise what a good team Blyth are, their 1-2''s and passing was probably as good as any team as I have seen all season.
I think when the England team are looking at penalties for the next European Championships/World Cup, they should watch this video. There were a few that were unstoppable.
9  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Chorley - Match Thread on: May 04, 2019, 11:54:54 AM
The away game at Chorley was very strange, we were by far the better team in the first half and really should have gone in 2 or 3 up at half time.

In the second half, they were down the wings putting ball after ball into the box. We just need to make sure that our full backs get some help from the midfield.

So JJ and Ceesay (if playing) need to track back when we are under pressure to help.

If we can put a similar performance to the first half away at Chorey or the fighting spirit we saw in the home game, we have a real chance. It will be a great atmosphere, the only sad part is with the segregation we cannot go to the Chorley fish & chip shop.

Whatever happens tonight, even if we are disappointed by a last min winner or pens, I hope we all realise how great a season it has been and clap them off for ages

Abosolutely right in your comments, but positive thoughts only for now....lets not talk about disappointment before the game

Lets look at the positives from the game today.....the Ashton club house at half time was good....that's it

It wil be interesting to see how many Alty fans go. This had 'end of season important away day' written all over it for weeks and it looked like there would be something riding on the game.
So with very little at stake, I wonder if fewer fans are going.
But not far away, we are coming to the end of the season, and you want to support the tesam into the play offs.
Hopefully the fans will turn out in the usual force and make it a great end of season party.
13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Brackley Match Thread on: April 17, 2019, 11:29:18 AM
Form the Brackley website.....

Altrincham keeper Tony Thompson missed his clearance and was unable to scramble back to keep the ball from dribbling over the goal-line in the most dramatic of climaxes to leave the home crowd stunned and Brackley supporters celebrating.

Lol....Brackley supporters, was that both of them ?

Unlucky boys.....plenty still to play for, it looks like we just get an extra match this season.
Perhaps it was just after the excellent game on Saturday, but the whole game looked rather flat, both Altrncham and Brackley.
Our chance was in the first half when Jordan was walking through their defence, and looked very sharp, they came back into the game in the second half and their goal was coming.
Whilst the manner of the defeat was disappointing, but really we did not play in the way we have done over the last few weeks. Anyway if we can make it into 4th place, and get past the qualifiying round, it looks like we will have the chance to get our revenge for tonight.
We have a great chance on Saturday and Monday to sort it out, there will be more twists and turns yet before the season is over.....
15  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Brackley Match Thread on: April 16, 2019, 06:11:17 PM
Absolutely massive tonight, a few weeks ago we were talking about the possibility of making the play off's now we have a fantastic chance for third place.
A win would put us in the driving seat, but even with a draw tonight and I still think we have a chance of 3rd.
You have to fancy us for the remaining fixtures Nuneaton / Hereford / Ashton, Brackley have to play Boston (H) Chester (A) FC United (H) and Spennymoor have York (A), Chorley (H), and Curzon (A). If you are looking down the table then BPA have Darlington (A), York (H) and Chorley (A).
So if we do draw then we will be watching the Chester v Brackley and Spennymoor v Chorley games on Easter Monday.
If we do win, then how many times do you see the teams with a bit of momentum doing well in the play off's and that is certainly us at the moment. Brackley have some decent form over the last ten matches, but Spennymoor have only won 2 out of the last 8.
