Altrincham FC First Team / Happy Birmingham Day everyone!
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:33:29 PM »
Doesn't need explaining on here surely.

Any memories though? For me (as an 8 year old) the big metal turnstiles at St. Andrews, the incessant noise from the Alty end, the fact that we thoroughly deserved it and finally getting back and going to my mum's church meeting and telling everyone to be met with a shrug of the shoulders and "yes, thought they'd win, they usually do in the cup games!"

Altrincham FC First Team / When was the last time....
« on: December 02, 2012, 08:36:39 PM »
When was the last time we won an two away games at the same ground in a season?

Not withstanding that our cup and away records haven't been great in recent years it's quite a rare occurence anyway I should think.

Any ideas?

Got a new job, presumably paying a lot of money.

Good on him, glad he's doing well. Top man and a real Moss Lane favourite.

Altrincham FC First Team / Favourite Alty Opening Day Fixtures
« on: August 15, 2012, 11:15:47 AM »
As alluded to elsewhere, this could be a very short thread.

Anyway...

1) Woking away, 08-09. Won 2-1. - This had everything. For me, the last great away day we've had. Knew we'd win it, big crowd, great atmosphere even though all in the Woking end. Hammered on Cardinal Gold beforehand, a decent Friday night out in Camden with the lads on Friday. This also turned into an epic 4 day session as I met some  mates and went out in Soho Saturday night before going to the Test at the Oval with Rosie on the SUnday, then stayed over at Jamie's. I watched England finish off their Test win on Monday before getting a train back with Jamie for the Barrow game Tuesday. And Colin Little's goal, summed him up to a tee. The most sublime piece of skill.

2) Yeovil away, 1994/95. Won 3-1. We'd only survived the previous season due to Kingy coming back (YEovil had been right in it too) so they didn't expect us to be any good but we knew with Sharratt, Terry and co that we'd win. We stormed into a first half lead with some great counter attacking.

3) Stevenage home 2-1 and in the 89/90 season Barnet home 2-1. There was a little something brewing before that Barnet game that perhaps we were starting to build a good side. That wouldn't come to fruition until a year later but still enjoyable for John McMahon scoring from a corner and a great diving header from Wayne Entwistle.

Altrincham FC First Team / O/T Manchester to Blackpool bike ride
« on: July 06, 2012, 02:08:43 PM »
All,

I'm afraid I won't be on the beer at the Abbey Hey game due to preparing for this bike ride on Sunday (there's the tenous link!)

We're raising money for The Christie and East Cheshire Hospice, two wonderful causes. It's going to be 60 miles of thirsty work in blazing hot sunshine (hopefully the tarmac won't melt and we'll be safe) so if any of you could spare a couple of minutes and a couple of pence for this I'd be really grateful.

Am I right in thinking this is the ex Dagenham keeper (from the days when they were just Dagenham) Lloyd Scott who was at one time suffering from leaukimea (sp)?

Socrates isn't allowed though!  ;)

1) What have Hyde, Stalybridge and Bishop's Stortford currently got in common?

and on a related note to that

2) What is unique about Workington this season?

Altrincham FC First Team / Tonight's BSN bet
« on: March 13, 2012, 06:46:15 PM »
Guiesley to win at home to Solhull and Halifax to do at the Shay what we should've done on Saturday to Bishops.

Double pays 2/1 nearly (2.91)

Lots of close games all over everywhere tonight. Wouldn't like to go much beyond a double, maybe Fleetwood at Mansfield if feeling flush.

You won't need to bring your hat with you.

Like I said, there's no way this game will end 11 v 10.

Well done Marlon.

Altrincham FC First Team / MANCHESTER 10K
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:29:30 PM »
Hi all, sorry for the blatant non Alty topic here (feel free to shift it Ecky when ready) but I'm running the Manchester 10k on Saturday, as is my missus who's really kicking my arse in the fundraising stakes....

Anyway just to show that anyone can run if they want we're raising money for the Christie, a worthwhile cause I'm sure you'll agree. So please, if you can spare anything at all can you visit my justgiving page

I've been training hard and it's going well. I'm thoroughly confident of finishing in May.

Cheers

Altrincham FC First Team / Worrying news from Hayes
« on: March 27, 2011, 11:11:06 PM »
From JL

Meanwhile, "With Delroy Preddie out for several weeks with the hamstring injury picked up at Crawley, manager Garry Haylock has drafted in former Reading and QPR keeper Shane McWeeney from Potters Bar Town".

I've no idea what Shane McWeeney is like (although it's a marvellous name) but whatever eh's like he's got to be better than Preddie, he was an absolute liability all the way through at Moss Lane.
