Altrincham FC First Team / THE 'WELCH SQUARE' AUCTION
« on: March 19, 2010, 03:00:29 PM »
TASC are pleased to announce the second 'special auction' square of the season for the 'My Square' Sponsorship scheme.

The second square to be auctioned is the 'Welch Square', the spot where Michael Welch launched his fantastic 70 yard drive against Crawley last season, a strike that was to win him the Blue Square Premier Goal of the Season

As such the right to sponsor this particular square will be decided by auction. The auction will run until 3.27pm on Sunday 28th March 2010 (exactly one year on!). Bids are welcomed either via responding to this thread on the Alty Fan's Forum or emailing altytasc@tiscali.co.uk or by phoning the club on 0161 928 1045. The lucky winner will have their memories of the goal featured in an edition of Robins' Review as well as having their name on the grid in the programme all season.

Many thanks to those of you who have sponsored a square, we still have a number of squares available for sponsorship from as little as £3. The whiteboard with the available squares is located in the TASC area of the club shop before home games and at half time. It will also be in the Noel White Suite after home games. Please come and share in this, it would be excellent to see the names of as many Alty supporters on there as possible.

Gareth Thomas

TASC Committee member.

Altrincham FC First Team / Today and Monday's Alty trivia Quiz questions.
« on: January 31, 2010, 09:29:34 PM »
1) With Andrew Pearson and Andrew Owens leaving the other week can you nam eany other ex Alty players called Andrew who preferred to be called Andrew? We've had a fair few Andys (Allan, Lee, Bridge, Brown, Tunnacliffe, Dibble, Reid, Ainscow) but I can only recall one other (Andrew Strange).

2) The best part of Saturday's match was Doughty's penalty, a load of T**ts pulling at the netting so he just blasted it straight at them, class, however we seem to be getting a lot of penaties at that end of the ground. So, when was the last time we scored a penalty at the Golf Road end (not including Doughty and Meechan's successes in the shout out v Luton)?

A lot of the united community coaches stand in the area in front of the dug outs. Whenever there's a sub you'll see then, blokes in black united coats. In front of the home bench, at the back next to the white home team sign is a big oldisi looking bloke in a black hat. It's Dave Ryan, ex vics keeper for you young uns.

Altrincham FC First Team / Terry Brown interview
« on: January 20, 2010, 10:05:54 PM »
http://www.afcwimbledon.tv/video/terry-brown-post-altrincham/

Fair play to Brown who's always come across as a steady bloke, this is one good honest interview (the 2nd half of it is just about WImbledon though)

In a nutshell for those that can't access the video at work/whatever reason he says it was a very close game and the result flattered them, Alty had enough chances to get back into it (ffs Robbie - that's me saying that, not TB), he thought Senior was offside and shouldn't have been sent off as they had covering defenders but as far as the challenge itself was concerned admits they had a large slice of luck - in fact he was amazed he wasn't sent off as just about every other ref would've have done so. Also says we are a very good team.

Nice to hear, don't feel any better about it all though. ENjoyed the decent highlights package.

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty in When Saturday Comes
« on: January 12, 2010, 12:01:17 AM »
If anyone has got he current January edition as I have (not sure how long it will be out for as Febs is out soon) there is a regular double page photo feature which this month is from the Chester v Alty game, mainly about Chester's woes - pics of not very busy club shop, disgruntled home fans etc but it does show the aftermath of our 1st or 2nd goal (McAliskey and Clee) and the main photo is one of Chester fans heading to the exits whilst Alty fans applaud at the final whistle. I wasn't there so can't tell where everyone was and while most aren't visible I can clealy see Steve from Sale, Brian and Carly Read and John Gill.

Also there are 2 letters about the Birmingham article in the letters section. One from Graham Rowley of Doncaster  ???   about the Villa song and one from a Brimingham fan (Rob Harris, Birmingham) basically saying it gets no recognition cos Birmingham are toss.

There is also a photo with the caption 'Altrincham score and a new song is born'. However the photo is one of someone in a red and black shirt scoring a chaotic scrambled goal against Birmingham from sometime possibly circa late 70's.

Altrincham FC First Team / Christmas period games - ko times
« on: January 01, 2010, 01:43:05 PM »
Just looking ahead to next seasons bumper festive fixtures versus Stockport and Wrexham and the problems we've had this year (and last).

Clearly we struggle somewhat with the weather, pitch covers etc are not viable financially in our current predicament I presume so I was wondering is there any way we could give ourselves a better chance of these games going ahead.

It might only be a marginal difference but do the conference have any hard and fast rules on kick off times? i.e. could we look to play our home Boxing Day/New Year's Day games at 5.15pm to give the pitch a bit more of a chance to thaw out? How do you think attendances would hold up with this?

Largely fao Beez, Matt, Joe and Pete but for everyone else as well. Don't think it has been posted on here.

I remember this guy being a decent player when I was a kid but this is astonishing. It also appears to be taken from the Japanese equivalent of Fantasy Football League.

Discussed at this morning's TASC meeting we appear to only have 128 members. We're pretty certain that all of you out there do want the benefits of membership and we just wondered if you haven't got round to it.

We want to hit our target of 250 members by the end of October and achieve our target of raising £10,000 for the club by the end of October.

If you have always planned to be a member but just haven't got round to it come and see me in the TASC area of the club shop today (I'll be in the bar doing MySquare after as well). Also, check the person you stand next to at games, is your mate a member? If you join and they join we can get our numbers back up to more respectable levels!

We particularly want you to join NOW as the we will be having a double September/October monthly draw for Hospitality at the Forest Green game - 2 members will win hospitality for 2 in the Sponsors Lounge. That of course is coupled with the reduced away travel, mebership card and newsletter.
Membership runs for a full year from when you join.
Prices are
Individual Standard Membership
£10 (Annual Subscription)
Students/Seniors (aged 60+) £5
Junior Robins (under 16s) £5
Family (2 adults and up to 3 children aged under 16) £20

ALTRINCHAM F.C. “MY SQUARE” PITCH SPONSORSHIP 2009/10
Altrincham F.C. in association with TASC and www.ideas4alty.com are pleased to announce an exciting new form of the “My Square” pitch sponsorship for the 2009/2010 season.
The “My Square” pitch sponsorship scheme gives Alty fans the chance to sponsor their own little square of the Moss Lane pitch for a whole season for as little as £3!! What better way to be a part of your club and show your support for the Robins? Once again, a draw will take place at the end of the season and one lucky winner will receive a very special prize – their very own square of Moss Lane turf to plant at home in their garden! What better way to add a permanent piece of Moss Lane to your home? You will also receive a nice bottle of champagne to toast your victory!

HOW IT WORKS
There are some parts of the Moss Lane pitch which have been selected as “special squares”, where a lot of the action has taken place over the years. Both penalty spots have seen their fair share of drama over the years and these are expected to be very popular.
Also available at a slightly higher price are squares in the penalty area, the centre circle and also the corner quadrants.

MAGIC MOMENTS
This year a number of squares are allocated to particularly magic Robin’s moments. These squares will be available for a slightly higher price and each particular moment will be featured in a match day Robins Review, where the buyer of the square will also be able to add their own memory of the moment.

‘SIR’ JACKIE SWINDELLS – KING OF THE 6 YARD BOX
The 6 yard boxes at either end of our famous ground have seen some legendary goal poachers over the years but none graced them more often than Alty’s record goal scorer, the late, great and hugely missed Jackie Swindells. As such, we have dedicated the squares in those boxes as ‘Swindells Squares’. Again, we will feature parts of Jackie’s career and goals in six editions of the Robins Review where the buyers will be able to contribute their own memories of Jackie
In addition there are to be two extra special auction Squares
The “Freeman Square” -This extra-special square is located at the spot from which Clive Freeman hit his “Goal of the Month” blockbuster against Chester City in 1992. This square will only be made available by auction which will take place online at www.altyfans.co.uk or alternatively bids can be emailed directly to me at altytasc@tiscali.co.uk Bids will be accepted through the coming weeks until 5.30pm on Saturday 28th November 2009 (nearly 17 years to the day) after the home game against Kettering and the winner will be announced in the Noel White Suite.

Likewise, there will also be the “Welch Square” where Michael Welch launched his astounding 70 yard Blue Square Goal of the Season against an unsuspecting Crawley Town last season. This auction will take place in the same manner as the “Freeman Square” but after Christmas and will close at 5.30pm on Saturday 20th March 2010 after the home game against Rushden & Diamonds (again nearly a year to the day of the goal) in the Noel White Suite.

BRILLIANT – WHERE DO I SIGN?
TASC member Steve Foster has acquired a whiteboard with the pitch squares on it. This will be in place at the TASC section of the club shop at all home games and brought into the Noel White Suite afterwards. Fans will be able to pay their money and take their choice there and then. Anyone unable to get to matches should make alternative arrangements by either emailing altytasc@tiscali.co.uk or phoning the club on 0161 928 1045.
Squares will be sold on a ‘first come, first served’ basis starting at the home fixture against Mansfield Town on Saturday 10th October 2009.

Altrincham FC First Team / International Update!!
« on: October 08, 2009, 02:42:19 PM »
From an absolutely raucous Moss Lane! The main stand alive with England Scotland England Scotland alternating chanting! Huge celebrations as England went one nil up about five minutes ago!! Great PR from the club to invite down the whole of (presumably) Stamford Park Junior School - certainly beats maths in the afternoon if you're 9 years old i guess!

All,

Great news, the "My Square" pitch sponsorship scheme will be running again for the 2009/10 season. We will be taking sponsors for the squares on a first come first served basis starting at the Mansfield game on October 10th 2009. This is a fantastic fundraiser for the club and a fantastic way to own your own little part of Moss Lane and have your name in the matchday programme.

This year we will have a pitch map on a whiteboard in the club shop before games and in the Noel White Suite afterwards so you can see your name 'up in lights' as soon as you join.

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF VARIATION THIS SEASON...

"SWINDELLS SQUARES" - Each of the squares in the 6 yard boxes at Moss Lane will be named in honour of our greatest goal getter, the late, great Jackie Swindells. The "My Square" page of the Robins Review will focus on these on 6 occasions and the sponsor will be able to give their recollections of Jackie.

"FREEMAN" and "WELCH" squares - these will be available by auction and again will feature in the programme.

AND HERE’S WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP

“MAGIC MOMENT” SQUARES – We plan to allocate certain squares of the Moss Lane pitch to magical Robins moments of the past. For example, the square just on the edge of the Golf Road penalty area where Ken McKenna slipped home his last gasp winner against Kettering in 1991. Again, this would be featured in a particular edition of Robins Review and the sponsor would be able to add their own recollections of the event.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a goal, each part of Moss Lane has it’s own memories.

But what are these “Magic Moments”? Over to you, please post here (or email altytasc@tiscali.co.uk) those goals, moments, and parts of the pitch that should be designated as special squares (Showler’s goal v Macc? Tunna’s header v Dagenahm?) so that we know which ones to allocate specially.

GO!!.....

Sad news. Any Moss Lane regulars remember this guy? I only remember Frickley being very tough and a guy called Gary Hooley (firestarter  :P) getting goals for them. Good side they were, a strange by product of the miner's strike.

Just been on Sky sports on the A League highlights between Sydney and North Queensland. Just had a goal disallowed for off side. Playing up front with Robbie Fowler. Bizarre!
