It can’t be good for the team knowing that they are going into a game without their first choice keeper. Regardless of how Gould performed that sort of thing eats away at you in the back of your mind. If they were to play a 17 year old it’s be the same.

Although whoever we get probably won’t be very experienced

And just to go back to the crowd. I’m puzzled that some people think it was a below par attendance?

Opening day attendances early in August with so many people on holiday (see our great travelling support at Torquay last season) are always much lower than you’d think. 800-900 used to be par.

1,717 is great and further proof of our progress. I haven’t got reliable enough WiFi on our campsite in Cornwall to check but it’s possibly our highest opening day attendance in the past 4 decades??

Maybe just edged out when Exeter brought 7-800 and we got circa 1,800 against them a few years ago.

Edit: Exeter was 1,314 so Saturdays attendance is certainly nothing to be disappointed with.

I think there may have been more in the ground for York at home in 2018 but in terms of home supporters, it’s an age since we’ve had as many as 1500 on an opening day.

Good call. 1,876 v York. Suspect they brought more than the 200 Maidstone did though

I guess one thing worth saying is that the csh is open all game, and serving people, so maybe it’s not as easy to pre pour loads of pints at 3:30? That said I’ve been in at 3:35 and it takes f**king time.

The real reason they won’t pre pour pints though is like a lot of places their scared of tipping 2 or 3 unwanted pints away but f**k me they must know how much of each they sell by now.

Also, and I surely can’t be alone in this, if I’ve got a massive queue I’m as likely at the end of it to just take whichever beer you’ve got immediately at hand rather than ask for a specific one to be poured. Obviously not everyone is like that but many people are.

Decent read Lee. Well researched and not far off what I’d guess at to be honest. Good to see you rate Lewis Baines.

Don’t worry about what’s written, can only be realistic rather than blowing sunshine.

I’m not fussed about clubs coming in for Parky. If they do it means the club is doing so well that he’s attracting attention. That’s a win win. I’d be more concerned if no one wanted him!

I think the new lad might go straight in:

                          Byrne

Mullarkey  Jones  Baines  Brockbank

              Lundstram  Osborne

   Conn-Clarke  Bennett  Colclough

                          Hulme

Whatever the make of the back four I’d be surprised if Toby is shunted out to right back

I'd like us to have fan fare begin before teams emerge where we can, and then teams walk out on the poignant bit.

Always seems to start too late
You’re spot on with the timing. It wasn’t always so I’m sure. I seem to remember the fanfare starting before the teams emerged from the tunnel.

In times gone by Alty Tunnel Steward would give the signal to start Fanfare as we were coming out of the tunnel.

The Hobgoblin was very nice but is so cold? Get why the largers and ciders are cold (too cold imho) but noy not the bitters.

And why wasn't the Community Shield being shown post match?

The lack of ability for people to turn the tv over has been here for years.

I’m not why the club don’t understand that advertising which football is on is a draw for people for people to come in early/stay and watch. Poor.

I’m not quite sure about that (although who knows). We’ve been used to putting 2 and 2 together for so long I guess.

Don’t know, just don’t think a signing of a trialist and a welcome return for JJ is equal money wise to a fee that TM would command.

Didn’t see that coming!  Great to have him back but that’s strengthened the position we were already strongest in. Can one of our 4 CB play left back as cover / competition for Liam?

I’d contend it was the position we were strongest in!

I’m not sure how much of another ‘test’ we really need.

Our final 3 friendlies are essentially against loaded probable league one winners, a hiding to nothing against Stoke City’s first team and the usual chasing shadows against United’s kids in a 0-3 piss take in front of an average crowd.

I’m not sure how this benefits us heading into the new season tbh.

Would Adam Rooney, if we could afford him, be worth a punt? Looks to be without a club after leaving Solihull

Was being paid £4k p/w at Salford and not much less than that at Solihull. Well out of our reach, surely.

We could transpose them Mooney sing fairly easily I suppose

Thought as much but to be without a club 12 days before the season, we might be able to offer a short term option.. Straws. Grasping.

That’s really sad news. A lovely man and a loyal Altrincham club man to the core. Untold hours put towards our club. RIP Derek.
