The incident? So far as I understand it (and I was there) - after a home win for Alty, a supporter (who will remain nameless but he knows who he is  Smiley ) said " thank goodness we beat those (redacted)". Apparently one of Pacey's stooges overheard and told him. He thereupon stormed into the middle of the NWS and shouted "who's a (redacted), who's a (redacted)..  Someone in the circle that had gathered around him replied "you are", which was perhaps unsurprising in the circumstances. Then that lad whose name I always forget (but I seem to remember pushed me in a trolley at Chorley - but that's another story) picked up a bar stool, as I remember, which was apparently the excuse for the mayhem that followed with, as I suspect, some of the thuggish players playing for Droylsden at the time (remember Marcus Hallows against another Tameside team?). I'm sure there's details I've forgotten, and I may have been a bit unfair to some people etc. But thatt was the jist of it.

furious there was not even a token representation of supporters at york st today, we cant go on like this forever, nearly as many folks dying in accidents AS from this bug goin round - when we goin to get bCK TO NORMALTY? I read that 100,000 plus kids will starve globally from gvt lckdowns,  compared to three (so I heard) in the uk who have died from "the bug". we need to get it sorted

Wayno, if this is one of those "Alfreton Town 0 Altrincham 3" predictions, I will be very very happy. (I wouldn't have minded in the least if Ricky Harris hadn't been one of the scorers but it made for great telly)

If it does end up 2-1 to Alty, can we have you predicting every game?  Grin

I seem to remember at the Atherton Collieries match preseason after one of our goals a substitute said "that was that long ball you were on about" and Phil Parkinson replying - "a perfectly weighted cross field pass". It looks like they perfected it. I also seem to remember a player who shall remain nameless asking Fozzy if he'd brought some sweets again...

I too hope  that Portsmouth are soon back where they belong! I hope Harrogate get into the league as well, I just can't see it. I think most of us were glad to be going to Portsmouth in the cup rather than Harrogate though, a great away day. I had a good experience at Fratton Park once when we stayed in Portsmouth overnight. It turned out that someone who worked at the ground (this was preseason) had previously lived in Sale and sorted us out with some old Portsmouth programmes. It's little things like this that people really appreciate.

Harrogate more likely, thank goodness Portsmouth beat them! Smiley Maybe even Macc depending on how the fl farce ends! Whatever, ,take it. And if we miss out, not going up is not nearly so bad as it used to be, plenty of high profile games. I was thinking back to the first time we won the npl, and Workslop was our biggest game! And after them, a chllly Whitby with a slab of meat for a prize in the raffle and only giving results from other Yorkshire teams... a different world...

To be honest, Boston was the team I was most worried about coming into the playoffs, they were the form team before the season was suspended. I didn't see too much today to change my view, and like us, they will be sharper with a competitive game under their belts.

Having said that, we look likely to score against anyone at the moment and I think we have a good chance if we can keep it tight at the back.   If.....

For me, if there has been any controversy, it was the Brackley -Gateshead match where a substantial number of home supporters watched over the fence etc.  chanting and shouting, even banging a drum. Whether or not it made a difference, one set of supporters was represented and not the other. With these playoffs apparently not having been considered for the crowds return pilots ( because these football fans are just not county cricket supporters don't you know), if it ws up to me, I would let a token amount of supporters from each side attend the match to prevent such a farce. I can't see that 20 Chester supporters (or whatever) on the Chequers end will be very risky.

More over, with outdoor theatre, gyms, pools etc. returning this month, has it officially been confirmed by the government or football authorities that there will definitely be no crowds for the full duration of the playoffs? With progress on reopening elsewhere, one might, all being well, hope for news on crowds at sporting events over the next few weeks, unless it is considered uniquely dangerous to stand on an open terrace 2m  from other people. What, for example, if in a week or two, the government announces that, from the 1st of August, crowds will be allowed at sporting events with a limited capacity? Will this affect the playoffs and has any consideration been given to it, because there are obviously a number of possible issues that scenario would throw up?

Good, will be there (if only!  Smiley), I presume there won't be too much extra cost involved?

very very sad, condolences to Jenny and family, it was people like George who made Altrincham the club it is today and, like 2 years ago with Kenny, I hope they can "do it for him" in the play offs. Like Kenny, you could fill a book with stories about him, and like Kenny, he would be worthy of his own flag.

I too remember him at the race night with his dead pan replies to people's gentle teasing, and on other occasions claiming to have a "broad Timperley accent", or walking through Navvy Road rec  with his little dog to see the excellent Packet House team of the time (unless my memory is playing tricks on me), and he and Jenny helping to pick up the pieces after Maunders left ( a time I will always remember with fondness despite the trials). rip, George

ps I remember the meeting to save the club, I don't remember anything that was said but do remember it was a big turnout and a very emotional night, for me the key moment in our history since I started watching in 1990 (Bangor City to be precise, those were the days)  after moving down from Scotland.
12  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Altrincham v Chester - CONFIRMED (match thread) on: June 29, 2020, 11:43:26 PM
I presume that a friendly would mean further costs, though ideally I'd obviously like to have one. I suspect York will have a warm up match otherwise we (or Chester!) will be at an advantage having competitive game time behind us. I should be confident I know, but I just can't be sure how the circumstances will affect things. Are there any plans to make ML more "home like" with flags etc.? I'll resist the temptation to speculate on songs if there were to be fake crowd noise!
13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Altrincham v Chester - CONFIRMED (match thread) on: June 29, 2020, 09:36:31 PM
I assume the FA are fairly likely to ratify it having already sanctioned matches in the fl.

As for the match - if the league match had gone ahead, I would have been fairly confident but, having not played for months I fear we could have the same problems we've had previously at the start of seasons. Still it should be more or less the same group of players give or take loan players (any news?) which should help, and the likes of Durrell are sure to give it a good go. And it's hard not to believe the loss of Chester's leading scorer to Gloucester won't be a factor. I just wish we had Ceesay...
14  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Provisional Playoffs on: June 17, 2020, 11:02:47 PM
Seems to me that the Chester "City" position is pretty much that if they get money made available to them to take part in the play offs that would not be available to them if they did not participate then they would be perfectly willing to participate. Who knows what skulduggery will go on behind the scenes unless the NL have made provisions to prevent any such "bribes". Like enough they haven't thought it through properly though. Looks rather like the election system over again I'm afraid...

So let's get this straight. I seem to remember a certain away trip to Irthlingboroough in 1997 when there was talk on the coach  of "Macc Town going bust". So far as I  can tell, they have been in and out of financial trouble for at least 23 years. Their board and supporters have failed to get a grip of the situation in all this time despite some notable successes. Unbelievable. ow wonder if the fl have had enough!
