What hasn't been debated is how much of an impact thestatszone may have had on this seasons performance. I have no idea...anyone else got any views?

Last couple of seasons (before PP) , Highway to Hell was the only suitable song Smiley

3  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: 4G Pitch on: December 28, 2017, 08:48:17 AM
Ok, five points are

1. Football on a artificial surface (however realistic these new 4G pitches are meant to be) is simply not the same.
2. These pitches are being ripped up in Holland due health concerns over the rubber crumb
3. Players are reluctant to join clubs that have a 4G pitch, as stated by Peter Band on the radio not so long ago. He said that he along with many others wouldn’t have chosen a club with an artificial surface due to the potential long term impact on joints.
4. Potential reduction in the fan base. I imagine that there are others like me that wouldn’t want to watch football every other week on an Astro turf, due to it changing the nature of the game.
5. Currently the football league doesn’t allow teams with plastic pitches to enter.

I think points 1 - 4 are most relevant, although it would be great if point no 5 became something for us too worry about. Of course the counter to the above negatives is the extra revenue the club could earn from such a pitch, but the business side of the club seems quite robust (thriving, I believe!)....its the football side where we have had the recent issues, although I concede extra revenue allows more investment in players, so its foolish to separate the 2 sides entirely.

I don't know how much a 4G pitch would cost, but its gonna be 6 figures for sure, so a hefty outlay. For that, wouldn't we be better investing in some better drainage and pitch covers? I am no expert, but I suspect its much cheaper, and addresses most of the concerns we have on the pitch without creating problems 1-5 outlined above.
4  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Warrington Replay - Error on Main Website on: December 17, 2017, 11:48:37 AM
A rare mistake on our normally excellent man website. Seems that on this first page under next game it shows :

Sat. 23 Dec. 2017: WARRINGTON TOWN (Home) 7.45pm
 Sat. 23 Dec. 2017: POYNTON (Home) 2pm
 Sun. 17 Dec. 2017: SOUTHPORT (Home) 2pm
TBA

Whereas I think looking at the fixtures it is a few days before that. I am guessing someone here can fix this Smiley

Caught my eye as I can't remember ever having a Saturday match in the evening.

seems that there are some local rivalries between Buxton and Macc that we perhaps should have been made aware of Wink...

I take it top 2 go up automatic and next for play off down to 1?
No - only one automatic promotion place

And my understanding is that effectively 8 teams fight it out for the 3rd relegation spot from the Conference North.

8  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Looking at the Table Tonight.. on: September 27, 2017, 08:01:46 PM
The table looks pretty positive.

Looking beyond the 5th place position is the fact that every game where we dropped points (4 of them basically) were against teams now sitting in the bottom half of the table - every team in the top half we beat whether home or away.

When one then considers that 3 of those 4 games were basically the first 3 games of the season, things look even better. Plus we haven't played any of the bottom 5 teams yet. After the last 2 seasons I am nervous and being unduly optimistic, but tonight I am feeling (hopefully not unduly) optimistic Smiley

Was sat in a lawyers meeting in NYC yesterday, happily watching the scores come through on my WhatsApp. Brightened up what would otherwise have been a dull few hours Smiley

Many thanks to those providing the service - its really appreciated !!

top of Acacia Avenue every time for me. 3 mins was from ground and easy access onto Hale Rd after the game. Plus, being an Iron Maiden fan, Acacia Avenue will always have a special place in my heart - especially no 22 Smiley

With regards to steves call for fans to return...it was not the quality of football that kept me away..id turn up however sh*te we are...so i will certainly be cheering pp and the boys away from home and hopefully will return to moss lane when there is a leader at the top i have confidence in...
spot on

Yeah - same here. I think Rowley has f**ked us over on this share thing (no new investors from what I hear, and now he has more control - whole thing was fabricated - FFS). But willing to give the new manager a chance. I will cut my cheque for one more year. But if the rumours are true, that he really did screw us..then I am done.
13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Press release re Investment on: May 23, 2017, 09:53:33 PM
Anyone who criticises the club for the timing of this is beyond help, the letters would have been landing on the shareholders doormats this morning (and then leaking out on here by lunchtime), today had clearly been planned as the big reveal for weeks. It's just a horrible awful coincidence but this is one thing you can't blame the club for.

Agree - the events yesterday were awful beyond belief - but today businesses continued to operate in the North West and beyond. Frankly last night put the issues at Alty into stark perspective. But the club did nothing wrong.

Its not that unusual for equity round subscriptions to be delayed...valuation and control issues are often thorny subjects. I have twice in my recent career had equity deals that took well approx 2 years to complete, but got there in the end. I have no idea what is going on here, but if I was putting money into the club right now after the past 2 seasons, my demands would be very tough indeed, and for sure it wouldn't be a quick negotiation. Quick, poorly thought through deals can cause problems down the road.

Barry has done so much for the club behind the scenes. I have massive respect for him.

Luckily it seems that he will still be involved in the club on a reduced basis.
