2  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Neil and Phil sign new deal for next sesson on: March 30, 2018, 07:25:17 AM
One point Phil did make which was important was the way we have recently been applauding the players even when they lose. Understandably at times we have turned our backs on them, especially after what has happened previously over the last couple of years. Phil said the players really have appreciated our support during harder times, but the more we show this, the more determined they become. I think this showed after the Warrington game, and I also pointed out that I always feel that we always have a good chance to get a result even when we go a goal down, that we will come back into the game.

Phil said the more backing we give them when things are not going well, the more the players will keep their heads up. You only have to remember what happened to Shaw Lane after they had equalized, after half time. We responded to that goal of Simon's and look what happened!!

Phil said the players thrive and feed off our enthusiasm, we need to keep playing our part and I am sure the season will end as we want it to. Great support this season, I am proud to be part of our fan base and club. The club and team need all our backing at this crucial time of the season.

Well that bit is in no way true, but ok. The support this season has been good for this level but it can hardly be considered “great” when our crowds are down huge amounts, the atmosphere is terrible and people are staying away because they want nothing to do with the current chairman.

I think now the bad eggs have gone from the original club really vics should merge with 1874 and unite.......really now 1874 are an afc protest club existing purely because they didn't agree with their fellow fans......

it would be like starting an anti Rowley protest afc alty and then when Rowley did leave carrying on as afc Rowley out .......pointless!!

I don’t think all the and eggs have gone though mate, that’s half the problem.

Did you mean without?

It should actually have said “with our” but my phone autocorrected it.
5  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Website Legends on: March 22, 2018, 10:37:15 PM
A request if it is changed, can the original version be saved (it was bigger) and sent to me?

It was me that supplied it and my old hard drive has crashed with it on and I’ve lost touch with the guy that designed it originally. If i could still contact him I’d ask him to do another one without Kenny on.

Very sad news. A truly top fellow, and absolutely sports mad. He always stopped for a chat at Alty games, and whenever I saw him at Timperley Cricket Club. He never missed a trick, and always asked how the girlfriend was and who Ashley ( who I play for) were playing this week.

So many good memories of Kenny, you can’t help but smile when you think of him.

One of my favourites has to be coming back from an away game, geographically south of Alty, on the coach. The car craft of Rochdale advert came on the radio and Kenny turned round and yelled to Ecky, “Mark! MARK! THERES BEEN A CAR CRASH IN ROCHDALE!”

Rest in Peace Kenny, you’ll be sadly missed.
7  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Meet the Board on: March 10, 2018, 01:17:26 AM
Right didnt know that . Im sure those board members will address it accordingly then

Im not close to all the political side

To clarify, the next board meeting is due to be next week sometime (going roughly every 4 weeks off past ones) so it is my assumption that this was not discussed at the last board meeting. If it was, then for one it seems very, very odd that we’re not hearing about it until now, and secondly that it is still so far away.
8  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Meet the Board on: March 09, 2018, 07:20:05 PM
How can you have progress with out dialouge .

If nothing was arranged people would complain

I know there were some issues with the mike etc last time lets hope that lesson has been learnt

Great opportunity for Phil to take the plaudits and anyone to challenge the board as they see fit

The two should be separate Wayne, that’s the issue.

This has not been arranged at a board meeting, and has been pushed by GR without the approval of some board members. Make of that what you will.
9  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stourbridge - Match thread on: March 09, 2018, 07:18:48 PM
I agree that it is inflammatory and he really should know better but football is full of people who open their mouths before putting their brain in gear.

But when one of those people is a custodian of the club they should always engage their brain before their mouth. The fact that the majority of our board of directors (and this is not limited to the current board members either) are seemingly incapable of doing this is more a damming indictment of them and their skill set than the fact we as fans should expect it because “it happens in football”.
10  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stourbridge - Match thread on: March 08, 2018, 01:38:37 PM
Agree entirely with the last 2/3 posts here. I recently contributed to a long article in a national football fanzine about us and our various off pitch issues and like many on this thread am convinced without change at board level that the divisions as seen on here daily will not heal & long term nothing will really change at the club. However, at the same time I can appreciate the magnificent winning football being served up and the team PP & Neil Sorvel have created.

I think many of us know there is primarily one person on here (and also repeatedly on the Evostik Facebook) who with his constant sniping and repetitive tone just exacerbates divisions, offers nothing constructive (‘arsed’) and delights in riling people up and then plays the innocent card afterwards. Odd because I’d imagine virtually every regular poster on here knows and has chatted with him at the match. A lot of us want change but there is a way to debate & show respect towards others.
Yeah nice article, one where you didn't even mention 51% of the club was up for sale? Talk about making a gaff

Listen instead of trying to have a pop at me and making me a scapegoat, you talk about exacerbates divisions you talk about debate and showing respect?

Why not have a pop at the director who said stay away fans can f**k off? Quite frankly I think its one of the most disgraceful things I've ever heard. Yet you and others on here quite happy to brush it under the carpet and have a pop at me instead?

If you think this is just me then your deluded, my only fault is I live in hope that one day of getting our club back. Maybe I should follow the lead of others and totally switch off until that happens

Yes please do, that would be a most positive step Grin

Yet more contempt from pro-Rowley supporters for people that are seeing him and the board for their true worth. You’re just feeding the fire and making it worse.
11  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stay away fans and atmosphere on: March 08, 2018, 12:54:06 PM
I’ve long thought that if we could properly quantify how many fans are staying away and so how much income the club is missing out on, that would put more pressure on GR to stand aside than almost anything. Equally if it turned out there really weren’t that many of us, that in itself would be worth knowing. As it is we can only guess at the numbers boycotting or staying away in some form or other.

Always up for a sum. Our current average is 800 with effectively no away fans give or take. Last season it was 1,230 which was higher than the Conf Nat relegation season of 1,150.  On the basis of not using last season (bit unreliable given the fall off in gates after Christmas due to results and some very large away followings) and an average of a 200 away following in the Conf Nat Division, I'd put our natural average at about 900 to 950, meaning we're down about 100-150? Let's split the difference and say 125.

Gate receipts = 125x10x23 = £28,750
Profit on other Match Day Income per head say £2 125x2x23 = £5,750

Rounding up and not counting any other possible losses (sponsorships etc) let's say that costs us £35,000. Given our income in 2016-7 was £562,379 this equates to a reduction of 6.2%. Given gate income will be lower this year due to both attendances and prices, this shortfall will be magnified anyway and is presumably going to be / is being met through other sources.

All very interesting. I’d also point towards Andrews point(s) after this regarding Joe Bloggs and his “lack of habitual engagement”. Looking at Tuesday night attendances (which are always low) they seem notoriously lower than previous seasons. I would hazard a guess that the deduction there is more likely closer to the boycotted numbers, as Saturday crowds are normally swelled by casual supporters.

I have no mathematical evidence to back this up as I haven’t looked through it all, they’re just the impressions one gets.

Can't remember the last time I saw Alty play this well in the 1st half. Understandable that they were unable to maintain that level in the 2nd half. Agree with one of the earlier posts about the crowd tonight, really disappointing to be below 600 with the level of football being played this season.
Yes but nobody arsed though, another appalling crowd tonight, crowds going backwards? The stay away fans from those boycotting more noticeable at these midweek games when tickets aren't given away

Were you there last night?
Looking for negatives as usual  Roll Eyes

Noticing a crowd of under 550 is hardly “looking for negatives”. The negatives there jump off the page at you.
13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: where did you end up ? on: March 02, 2018, 08:48:25 PM
all these postponements has led me to recall some trips where we ended up at other games .

I recall Bangor Off and a very funnty day watching Rhyl v Macc
Morecambe either off or we couldnt get there because of M6 gridlock , i ended up not getting in at Wigan v Stoke . The day it kicked off all over the place and the joker got on radio 5 and claimed it all started when the match announcer asked for a minutes Violence for Stanley Mathews.

there must have been others but off hand i cant recall

class please discuss what bizarre games you ended up at

We had a game up at Blyth in December 2011 that was postponed due to the adverse weather. We’d been out for the weekend in Newcastle as it was one of the lads 21st birthdays and we looked high and low for a game to go to. Spenneymoor and Bishop auckland were postponed too, Gateshead were away so we ended up going to watch Hebburn Town V West Allotment Celtic in a game that was played on a pitch like granite. We got the metro with a mad West Allotment fan, a lady in her 50s who followed hem everywhere. The game finished 3-1 to Hebburn, and we got some very, very cheap beer in the clubhouse. It was minus 3 but well worth the £3 entry.

We also ended up going to Crewe V Rochdale at Gresty Road one Boxing Day because one of our games was called off. I think it was the year Rochdale stormed the league. Think they took about 2000 to Crewe that Boxing Day. It finished a 2-2 draw.

Are you taking over Jamie’s role as antagoniser in chief now Glyn?  Cheesy
15  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Altrincham v Stourbridge Re-arranged on: February 28, 2018, 08:11:11 AM
So a season ticket holder paid £180 for 23 league games and any pre-season friendlies which, this season, was 3. So that’s 26 games paid for which works out at £6.92 per game.

The scheme that has been hypothetically thrown out there would be something along the lines of pay for three, get one free. At full price, that works out at £7.50 per game.

If the targeted offer for Manchester United/City fans brings back fans who wouldnt normally have come then that is only of a benefit to the club. If they also take advantage of this proposed offer then they will have paid for 5 games at a cost of £35. Still £7 per game and more than the season ticket discounted price. If we factor in that if they have come back for 4 more games then they will probably come back for more until the end of the season, paying the full £10, their “discount” price will only increase from £7.
