As a (solely) mobile user, I think the new website is really good  and very user friendly.

As a platform it works very well. Itíll be more a test when it comes to the regular season and trying to find things then, but as it stands Iím impressed.
2  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Ashley Cricket Club Beer Festival on: July 10, 2018, 07:32:24 AM
As ever, our friends at Ashley CC are holding their annual beer festival this weekend, opening the festivities with an Altrincham FC Supporters XI Vs Sale Sharks Supporters XI Twenty20 game on Friday night. It starts at 6pm, if anybody is interested in playing then please do get in touch, either by posting on this thread or sending me a personal message.

No previous cricketing experience required, players must be over 14.

Thanks, Mike.

That name isn't ringing any bells for me as regards the annals of former Altrincham FC players.

The only Steve Cropper that I've heard of is the esteemed guitarist in Booker T. & The M.G.s.

Thatís where my mind went when the name was first mentioned as well. Thanks Cult.

Also, whilst weíre discussing former players, could somebody shed any light on Malcolm Cartlidge who played for us way back. Possibly as early as the 50s?
5  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Question from the Archives on: July 01, 2018, 11:09:22 AM
To revert to the original query - I've had a look thru my records for the 1980s & there's nobody of that name listed. Nearest I can get are
Steve Alman - one substitute appearance in 1981-2
Steve Buxton - four starts & five subs in 1985-6, scoring once
Steve Craven - two starts, scoring once in 1983-4
One other (very) long shot, nearer Kingy's time as manager than as player -
Steve Carroll - three starts & 15 subs in 1996-7
Hope that might help.

Thanks Mike.

The enquiry came through somebody else, so the surname may be incorrect, but I think Steve Carroll may well be our man. It was definitely mid 90s.

Loads of people say they played for Alty on a night out after a few beers to impress a girl ,but maybe he did

Yeah, thanks for that mate.

Any other help would be most appreciated.
7  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Question from the Archives on: June 28, 2018, 10:11:32 PM
Does anyone know anything about a Steve Cropper that played for us, possibly Johnny Kings last season and the following one?

Any help much appreciated.

Agree with both previous posters. Iím concerned that some of the posts on this forum recently appear to be advocating the desirability of NOT actively seeking investment. If this view is shared at board level, we face a difficult future.
This thread has taken a very strange turn. I can't see where anybody is advocating that we should not be seeking investment. Stating the difficulties is simply pragmatism. See my earlier posts on other threads about the need for a high profile FA Cup run, and the publicity it would bring. That scenario is, to my mind, the best way to encourage investment. Roll out the bandwagon !

+ 100

You do realise that by writing +100, absolutelu nothing happens. The whole point of the ď+1Ē is so that youíre acknowledging you agree without writing it all out in full.

ALSO, on another thread you put +1000, this one was +100 and on another thread it was +1000000 or something. Iím interested in how your agreement scale works.

As a seperate entity I do think the CSH has been a great success....

I hope moving forward it begins to be a real asset to the first team rather than a distraction...maybe this season we saw the beginnings of the community side start to reap dividends on match days....although alty fans have been pushed aside more than once for far more important community projects....
The ideology that the community side of the football club is more important than the 1st team is still unbalanced in my view.
But it is one more reason for a local wealthy businessperson to see an opportunity to be an investor a benefactor (amended to make it clear I am not thick enough to think putting money in alty or any other football club will see a year on year % yield)

Completely agree with you. The extra income from the CSH has been helping us ever since it opened, that was the plan  Wink Grin

The extra income from the CSH didnít help us stay in the conference. Or the conference north. It helped us on our way to the lowest league position our club has ever been in because the board completely forgot that we are a football club, not a Darby and Joan Club.

Which leads us succinctly back to the point that the Chairman, whilst clapping himself on the back for the success of having the CSH, saw that as the end goal. Instead of allowing growth we have stagnated and there are massive rifts that could easily be solved if one man didnít let his ego run away with him.

You said yourself that he wasnít the right man for the job but ďwe have no alternative optionsĒ  yet you are here advocating the fact he is actively blocking investment and a new chairman. Odd.

Would love to tick Hereford off.

Conversely, I missed leamington last year so I would love to go here. Edgar street is a big old ground at Hereford and quite quirky. Went there for a 0-0 draw in 05 in a game that Graham Heathcote said was ďthe only one Iíve ever set out to be intentionally negative inĒ. Iíve got a friend thatís a Hereford fan, so Iíd be happy with either.

Not my decision , but I'm sure that wouldn't be in the best interest of a new pitch.

Has a new pitch been laid Bryan?

Understand why you would both say that, but Iím not so sure. The attendance tonight was only about 50 down on our midweek average for the whole season. Which I thought was decent enough considering the circumstances - a nothing game for both sides, arranged at 24 hours notice.

Clearly the crowd would have been larger if the game had been played the previous evening as scheduled, but the difference probably wouldnít have been that substantial.

Whilst youíre probably right Matt (as you are with the vast majority of your forum posts may I add), the number in ďreal termsĒ will almost certainly have been down, considering season ticket holders are counted, whether they attend or not.

just the sort of thing that this forum should be focusing on

As opposers to?

Letís not make this a thread about other things, alright?
14  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Neil and Phil sign new deal for next sesson on: March 30, 2018, 07:25:17 AM
One point Phil did make which was important was the way we have recently been applauding the players even when they lose. Understandably at times we have turned our backs on them, especially after what has happened previously over the last couple of years. Phil said the players really have appreciated our support during harder times, but the more we show this, the more determined they become. I think this showed after the Warrington game, and I also pointed out that I always feel that we always have a good chance to get a result even when we go a goal down, that we will come back into the game.

Phil said the more backing we give them when things are not going well, the more the players will keep their heads up. You only have to remember what happened to Shaw Lane after they had equalized, after half time. We responded to that goal of Simon's and look what happened!!

Phil said the players thrive and feed off our enthusiasm, we need to keep playing our part and I am sure the season will end as we want it to. Great support this season, I am proud to be part of our fan base and club. The club and team need all our backing at this crucial time of the season.

Well that bit is in no way true, but ok. The support this season has been good for this level but it can hardly be considered ďgreatĒ when our crowds are down huge amounts, the atmosphere is terrible and people are staying away because they want nothing to do with the current chairman.

I think now the bad eggs have gone from the original club really vics should merge with 1874 and unite.......really now 1874 are an afc protest club existing purely because they didn't agree with their fellow fans......

it would be like starting an anti Rowley protest afc alty and then when Rowley did leave carrying on as afc Rowley out .......pointless!!

I donít think all the and eggs have gone though mate, thatís half the problem.
