As an exile on the south coast Iíd happily pay for AltyTV and have contributed in the past.
However this would be an extra expense for those already paying for to go to the games. Iíd guess that there would also be an overhead in administering payments and securing access.

Maybe if this were done some way could be found to discount it to those who go to games. E.g. discount to season ticket holders.
Alternatively just ask people to donate on an honesty basis. Iím sure most of us exiles who get so much from Alty TV and RR would be happy to make a regular donation especially if it was also going to support the club.

Simply needed to see the last few minutes out and failed to do so.  History wont remember anything but the result.
History might not but I will.

The Lawrence is very good and that area of side streets has a lot of decent pubs. A bit further along the main road to The Sir Loin of Beef but it is a great pub, quirky, full of odd junk and usually has at least 4 decent ales on. The Phoenix is also very good. The Leopold Tavern used to be fantastic (nine non-mainstream cask ales) but the Pubco did the usual and priced the landlord out and I believe it is rather ordinary now but does have tellies for live sport.
Wouldn't recommend the spoons near Fratton Park (John Jacques) before the game, will have door staff, probably rammed with home fans.

I can recommend The Lawrence. 50 yards from my house!

Pub wise i imagine some will wish to stay on the train to Portsmouth & Southsea and then gradually work their way towards Fratton-thatís certainly our plan and there a lot of cracking pubs in the city centre to kick off with. The Brewhouse & Kitchen a short stroll from P&S station and opens at 11 so think weíll start there.

Think tomorrow (for a change for me certainly) we will also be looking to get in the ground a at least 20-30 mins before kick off and drink it all in.

Good choice. They have a micro-brewery and have some very nice ales. Food is ok too. The Guildhall Village is ok too - directly over the road from the Brewhouse.
There are plenty of other drinking places around there too - a Wetherspoons facing into the Guildhall square and 'The Dockyard' is a new sports bar.

There aren't many pubs on the direct route from there to Fratton Park but there are plenty if you divert towards Southsea.

Very sad to hear this. A fixture in the Alty team when I started watching them in the early 70s.

Pompey say 8,000 home fans. I do hope itís better than that.
Sure they took more to Wembley the other year🤔
Unfortunately, home fans don't turn out in numbers for a game against lower opposition for a cup match. We had 680 against Whitley Bay in the Cup last season, and that  included a good away support.

A total attendance approaching 9000 is, if anything, a bit more than I was expecting and a decent effort from Portsmouth.

I suspect a some home fans might make a late decision about whether to go. The win on Tuesday (when the atmosphere was excellent) might encourage a few more.
And if there are 600 Alty fans that'll be three times what Rotherham brought.

Plenty in the GBG I think the good companion is the designated away pub

https://www.visitportsmouth.co.uk/food-and-drink/the-good-companion-p285171

If you are arriving by car and come in via the Eastern Road (A2030) then The Good Companion is reasonably convenient if you can park near it. 5 mins walk to the ground. They do food and beer was ok last time I used it. Atmosphere should be ok if the Alty fans gather there. It's not a pub I would go to for any other reason.

If you are coming by train it's a bit of a trek - probably 15 mins walk from Fratton station on the the opposite side of Fratton Park. There are a few 'football pubs' on the side streets to the south of the station but they are the ones normally used by home fans. I wouldn't expect any trouble if you went there but you might get a comment or two especially if you are in red and white stripes (not a popular strip in Pompey).

I'm a local - I'll be walking to the match - but I'm in the away end and I'll be wearing my Alty shirt and would like to meet up with the travelling fans so it would good to know where people are thinking of going before the game.

Their forum is already dismissive of us, eg "should be a turkey shoot". However, Portsmouth are rather underachieving this season, and are in the lower half of League 1. Prior to putting 4 past Southend in their most recent league outing (and there IS a turkey shoot !) they'd only scored 16 goals in 14 games. We're perfectly capable of earning a replay. I hear the sound of ringing cash registers.....
As a Pompey season ticket holder I agree 100% with this.
Pompey are not playing well this season. They lost their best two centre backs - one to long term injury, one to a premier league team - and are struggling in defence. Another CB went off injured last night and so did Tom Naylor who has been the best player in the team and captain. The reports are that they won't be out for long but if Naylor doesn't play it would be good for Alty.
They have struggled to break down teams who are solid and well-organised at the back and have been vulnerable to teams who can break quickly. Could suit Alty.

On the other hand don't expect Pompey's management to underestimate Alty. There is a lot of unrealistic expectation about everything on the fan forums. I wouldn't take much notice of anything said there.

What's the mobile signal like at FP mate?

Would I be able to put tweets out (match day updates) from the away end, do you reckon?

I can usually connect but it can be slow. I don't tend to use twitter but I'm always trying to get live updates from the Alty website and I can generally do that. I'd expect it would be ok.
I think the coverage is ok but you have 20k people in a small area and most of them are using their phone in one way or another. There's probably limited bandwidth via the masts close to the ground.

One of the floodlight pylons acted as a mobile mast and that has just been moved to the far side of the car park - floodlights are now mounted on the stands - so not sure if that has affected coverage.

i am going to phone the ground monday for my ticket as i am 67 but live in devon how do i give proof of age  as i need a concession ticket?
If the away turnstiles are the same as the home ones then they have barcode readers which read the ticket and open the turnstile. There is an indicator light on the inside monitored by stewards . Concession tickets trigger a different light so the stewards know if it is a full or concession ticket.
I think you would only be challenged if you don't appear to fit any of the concession criteria.

Fratton Park is a ten minute walk from my house! Just need Pompey to do their bit. Struggling at the moment by the sound of it.

Bolton away?
They are struggling but still getting decent numbers so a chance of beating them and/or getting a decent payout.

Six foot two, eyes of blue, Gerry Casey's after you ....
I can't be sure about the first two bits but the last part was spot on. Uncompromising hardly covered it. He was an absolute rock. In the days when pretty much everyone was tough-tackling he stood out in my memory.

Very sad to hear of his passing.

Awarded to Chorley at step 2 for this season. I'm not sure quite where queuing over three quarters of an hour, and then finding one of my cheeseburgers had no cheese on it, fits in with this accolade.

I also found it weird that they uncapped the drink bottles, making it virtually impossible to carry them in your pocket. Apparently it was in case the caps were used as missiles. Of course, nobody would dream of throwing the empty bottle !

2 cheeseburgers?? Removing of bottle tops is quite common in the football league, itís the full bottle with the top on they class as a missile, not the cap so you were misinformed by someone at Chorley.

I've seen it stated that removing bottle caps is for 'health and safety'. A bottle on the floor with a cap on will roll if stepped on but with the cap off it will more likely flatten under the foot. Might make some sense. Certainly more than anything to do with them being used as missiles.
