The Great Trek begins tonight. In fact, now.
Indeed, currently on a train from Cornwall to London so I can train it down there tomorrow

Didn’t look a penalty live, didn’t look a penalty on tv, didn’t look a penalty on fan footage from our end and now from their end.
I’m pretty satisfied it wasn’t a penalty

Kingstonian or Chichester at home, or Ipswich Coventry or Plymouth away
The nightmare is Crawly, Stevenage or FGR away

Obvs I don’t get to lots of games but overall I didn’t think there was an awful lot wrong with us today, that was two decent teams largely cancelling each other out. Their goal was a shot from distance that went in off the post and we had a few like that which were saved or flew over. These things happen.
The downside is that we don’t move it fast enough, we are a streaky side for a reason - when everyone is on it we play fast and trust everyone to be where they should be, today way too many touches and getting their heads up and looking for the pass, well against a ‘two banks of four team’ that won’t work

Class player at non-league level. If my memory serves, in the League Cup semi home tie against Mossley in 1979 when we were 4-1 down and O'Keefe had run the show, didn't Stan Allan "take one for the team" and pick a fight with O'keefe and get them both sent off? We then proceeded to win 5-4! :)

Indeed, O’Keefe was THE best non league player of that era and would beat you on his own. I actually bothered going to Old Trafford to watch him play for Everton a couple of years later.
Funny really that the two standout players at that time were O’Keefe and Mark Ward, both of whom have an ‘interesting’ story.

this must be a contender for the 'most non league thread ever' award

Mantak will not have played many games as intense and physical as that and although he got caught out a couple of times he also showed in flashes that he has something- hopefully he has the right attitude and we can see him progress. He improved during yesterday’s game and it will help when he really knows his role - the impressive thing about Alty at the moment is that feeling that everyone knows exactly what he should be doing in any given situation

I thought we were excellent yesterday and better than them all over the pitch, our control and calmness was quite exceptional and you could see the Brackley players getting more and more exasperated. The support was brilliant too, I would hope we could be heard on RR, and that was as much fun as I’ve had supporting Alty for years.
You can really see something coming together and the players completely buying into it
A couple of big mentions though to Jake and Simon who were both brilliant yesterday, they are the ‘Alty boys’ and lead the team.

It’s a bit harsh but the BPA lad waves his leg at Hulme and you are asking for trouble doing that, also although the Ref is not in shot he appears very quickly from right behind and will have had a very good view.
It’s not cricket btw, you don’t have to appeal.

It’s rare I see consecutive games but the last week has been a pleasure for me, after years of looking forward to the day out I now look forward to the game. I thought we were better than them all over the pitch and they couldn’t have complained if we had made it 3 near the end, and if that is really the best team in the league as many people say then I can’t see why we can’t win it.
Last week I felt people were unfairly critical because if we had scored when on top I believe we would have murdered Hereford, today we got that goal and Chester had to push on which suits us, there were a couple of periods of pressure but in general I was never worried.
Mostly it’s just nice going to games knowing we will give it a go. It’s nice to see management and players appreciate the support they got and vice versa, something is building here.....

Boreham Wood do have some form for bad behaviour at big matches, unfortunately.

Indeed, pity none of them turn up most weeks but then very few so at BW.
It looked like Tranmere vastly outnumbered them at Wembley.
Quietly very pleased for them, they took their years in non league on the chin without a lot of the big time stuff you hear from other ex league clubs.

I'm thinking that will be the first and only time the beer festival could be combined with the match time as next year we'll be back to no drinking on the terraces.

I thought it was established that drinking on the terraces wasn't necessarily a league rule, but a local council one?
I believe that's true but only up to conference north/south level. Beyond that it's a league/law matter.

Ah, fair enough.

Yes that’s right, it could continue next year but having actual away fans might weaken the argument for it
Personally I usualy find it useful to stop drinking for an hour or two

We played them in the NPL in the seventies so the last league game would have been in 78-79, and we have since been there in the Trophy more recently as you say, but later still.
I can't make it myself, but I anticipate a narrow win, or even a draw, as they gave us a very good game at Moss Lane as I recall.
Last League game at Silverlands - October 17th 1978; won 4-0 (Rogers 3, Heathcote)
Last competitive visit to Silverlands - January 14th 1989, FA Trophy 1st Rd, won 2-0 (Cook, Brown o.g.) Gate 1005

Pleased to read this as I was convinced I went there for a league game in ‘78
