Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Chester away saturday
« on: November 10, 2018, 07:50:46 PM »
Itís rare I see consecutive games but the last week has been a pleasure for me, after years of looking forward to the day out I now look forward to the game. I thought we were better than them all over the pitch and they couldnít have complained if we had made it 3 near the end, and if that is really the best team in the league as many people say then I canít see why we canít win it.
Last week I felt people were unfairly critical because if we had scored when on top I believe we would have murdered Hereford, today we got that goal and Chester had to push on which suits us, there were a couple of periods of pressure but in general I was never worried.
Mostly itís just nice going to games knowing we will give it a go. Itís nice to see management and players appreciate the support they got and vice versa, something is building here.....

Boreham Wood do have some form for bad behaviour at big matches, unfortunately.

Indeed, pity none of them turn up most weeks but then very few so at BW.
It looked like Tranmere vastly outnumbered them at Wembley.
Quietly very pleased for them, they took their years in non league on the chin without a lot of the big time stuff you hear from other ex league clubs.

I'm thinking that will be the first and only time the beer festival could be combined with the match time as next year we'll be back to no drinking on the terraces.

I thought it was established that drinking on the terraces wasn't necessarily a league rule, but a local council one?
I believe that's true but only up to conference north/south level. Beyond that it's a league/law matter.

Ah, fair enough.

Yes thatís right, it could continue next year but having actual away fans might weaken the argument for it
Personally I usualy find it useful to stop drinking for an hour or two

We played them in the NPL in the seventies so the last league game would have been in 78-79, and we have since been there in the Trophy more recently as you say, but later still.
I can't make it myself, but I anticipate a narrow win, or even a draw, as they gave us a very good game at Moss Lane as I recall.
Last League game at Silverlands - October 17th 1978; won 4-0 (Rogers 3, Heathcote)
Last competitive visit to Silverlands - January 14th 1989, FA Trophy 1st Rd, won 2-0 (Cook, Brown o.g.) Gate 1005

Pleased to read this as I was convinced I went there for a league game in Ď78

Itís one thing chasing but itís another thing when it becomes real as Warrington have found out, pressure does funny things

For the first Birmingham game we took a 15 seat minibus up from London, on arrival in Brum we found out it had been called off so we ended up watching Coventry v Watford in a blizzard - we were with the away fans and they didnít know what to make of us at all

The one that always reminds me, we had a sort of short lived tradition of playing Bowieís Heroes before big cup games. It came crashing to a halt when we went to the Sylvan specifically to play it on their jukebox before we played Burnley. Still when I hear it I think of cup upsets.
Perhaps I should start again?

I'm sure he's not forgotten that his head was being called for, albeit by a significant minority, after five minutes in the job. There has recently been suggestions on here that he threw a cup game and the club had a game called off on purpose. If he does read this forum, which he shouldn't but it's probably difficult to ignore, how do you think this 'toxic atmosphere' makes him feel in his job?

Were a significant minority calling for his head, thatís not my recollection? One person claimed the game was called off on purpose, and one or two suggested we didnít try to hard in the trophy. If anyone feels this is discontent I think they need to get out more.

Completely understand your point of view Globby but I think we should go and win some trophies.
Iím amazed that people canít see the connection, whenever teams at all levels play a weakened team and lose it disrupts their momentum- the thing we have going for us right now is the belief that we will win every game.

mossley away will bring back some scary memories for people who went there in the late 70s . i can recall hanging onto to the emergency exit door on the coach afterour 5-1 defeat in the second leg as 50 yobs in white skinners and harringtons s tried to get on to our coach to attack us despite them winning. my dad lived up there in the 90's and they still dressed the same . wouldnt be surprised if the home fans are all wearing crombies and oxford bags when we go there .
As soon as I saw the name Mossley I started having flashbacks Pete, the things we did for fun in those days
That 5-1 was the second leg of the O'Keefe/Allen semi wasn't it. Not very welcoming, as was often the case it was lads outside who weren't at the game - those were the times though, I'm glad to have lived through them but I wouldn't want anyone else to have to.
