Altrincham FC First Team / Re: fa cup latest
« on: October 05, 2016, 09:47:16 AM »
We played them at home in the trophy the next year, my mate had a flag that said 'Johnson eats Fenoughtys for breakfast'.

Re Dukla Praha - well it depends on your view on reformed teams as there is a team operating as Dulkla, but for many years there wasn't.
HMHB have many football references (eg 'I was a teenage armchair Honved fan') and are famously fans of Tranmere.

just cheated it was workington in 1977/78 when we went on to win the trophy.

matlock was the same cup run . i recall the "invasion" of matlock and the replay had to be one of the biggest crowds i saw at moss lane and it was given as about 1500 in the papers . no wonder we had so much cash in them days !!!

Was just thinking about that, arriving as normal and suddenly there were a whole load of young lads never seen before or since, rampaging down the high street

and it just shows how low the press can go just to get a story.

Disagree I'm afraid. At interview he will have been asked how he would uphold the reputation of both 'the game' and his employers, the FA. Consider this event as his 'practical'. He failed. Clearly the word in the football world must have been Sam's 'up for a bung'. All the Telegraph did was test the theory.

100%
Everybody knew that Allardyce was bent, and if the people in charge at the FA say they didn't then I would question their fitness to hold their position. Having said that I agreed with their decision to make him England manager as he was the obvious/only choice, nobody could really have seen him being as stupid as this within days of being appointed

It's a bit of a blind alley that, the reporter says he has
However just off the top of my head in 2 minutes I can think of ways he might know
They conducted the interview face to face and he told Mr Rowley his number and saw him put it in his phone?
Or more likely, they conducted the interview over the phone which would mean his number would be easily accessible
Anyway up somebody's pants are on fire

« on: September 25, 2016, 03:34:11 PM »
I moved to London in 1982 and by 1985 it was clear I was never returning as I no longer had family there. I continued to go to Alty games in London and environs but in those pre Internet, pre football being popular days it was hard to find information - it was hard enough to find out a result never mind any news.
As a result I had been going to random games every Saturday (there's a lot of teams to chose from in London) but eventually my partner (still my partner, Plymouth Argyle) said she would like to see the same team each week as then you get to know the players, what they can and can't do etc. We had a think and chose out local team West Ham, they were however chosen mainly because the atmosphere at UP was fantastic whatever the result. In he end I had a season ticket for 20 odd years and lots of good memories but eventually the matchday experience of the premier league ground me down and I found he only bit I was enjoying was going to the pub and seeing my mates before and after the game so we packed it in 4 years ago.
Luckily a few years before that I had discovered a group of fans who live in London and would go to Alty games so that's how I get my football fix now, unfortunately going to the pub is still the best bit of the day.
Anyhow to answer the question, I don't think it's a problem to support two sides who will almost certainly never play each other, if they did and even during the West Ham years I would support Alty.

There are no conclusions that can be drawn from such a small sample, come back in 10 games

How many phone calls is appropriate to tell a player they have been released?

If somebody rang me repeatedly to say I wasn't wanted at work anymore I would consider it harassment

Agree about both penalties and thought so at the time, however they had another one not given soon after that looked more of a penalty

Hoppy pale session allow is exactly the way to go, it appeals much more broadly than traditional bitter etc , you can even persuade lager drinkers onto it sometimes
Great idea and yes it would be good to have in the CSH

Not letting the grass grow
I have to say I find all this early focussed activity extremely refreshing

Purely from a selfish point of view I hope we get Leamington and keep Lowestoft, I could live without going to Brackley again.

« on: February 28, 2016, 08:31:36 PM »
Disgusting. I don't blame the Guiseley player but his captain and manager should have ensured the right thing happened.
Sw would his captain have the power to overrule the manager?
If the players decided to do it the manager couldn't do anything about it

I would rather be in our position than that of any of the sides below us

Top insight there Jim.  ;D
I know Jimmy, but sometimes people lose sight of the obvious stuff, we are still in trouble but put yourself in their position. They will have been gutted we got 2 points in those games.
