Altrincham FC First Team / Re: open your eyes lad!!!

picture on the main site got me thinking back to my childhood (long time)
my dad taught me you had have your eyes open when you head the ball. to stop me closing my eyes he hung a casey by the laces from the washing line and made me stand there heading the ball until i did with my eyes open.

in my recollection you never got close enough to the ball to actually head it ;D

and in a relegation fight i would always rather have the points than games in hand, after all you are in trouble because you cant win games

essential to win today

The comment about City fans being judged before they have done anything wrong is a stupid arguement. They have done it wrong for years already - FACT
i love people who write inane things and end it by saying FACT
it reassures me that they have the facts to their fingertips and could bring them out if they needed to. i bow to your greater font size

I think the City fans have been judged and found guilty before they have done anything wrong.

The song about the Golden Jubilee was heard and is a fact.

and city fans are being judged in advance because some people sang a song.
as was posted on another day, i have heard alty fans sing about burning macc fans but i dont expect them to do it

oh and anyone who is in denial about man u fans singing stuff about hillsorough needs their head examining

very few clubs fans are completely blameless

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Has Altincham got a better famous fan?

look the fact is that when he was growing up in his teens, statto was there at alty every week. lots of people who watch alty would profess to be utd or city fans.
he used to stand with another guy and fill notebook after notebook ofstuff about each game. we referred to them as the factfinders and would always ask an obscure statistics question at the end of the game.
to criticise him for not really going to games any more, well you might as well criticise me. i am an alty fan who doesnt go to games much any more and also support actively a premier league team.
i really dont see the problem with him

they are big and stong and athletic and that will get you somewhere. then they are winning and it becomes a bit of a habit
however sw is right, their chairman puts a load of money in and they are living way beyond their means, buying the best players locally
another one of those teams that in 5 years you will be saying 'remember histon?'

and, redhill alty, what was the best?

An almighty righthand slap thrown by a stunningly beautifull blond bird, in a Pub in Market Harborough, after we won the APL Cup at Kettering in 1981.
She nearly took the Gazelle's head off !!!!!

i had blanked that night from my mind (the game not the pub - i wasnt there)
i know its been said before but it was nasty sometimes in those days

anyone remember kingy getting in a fight in front of the poular side and falling to the floor grappling. john rogers sprinted from the other side of the pitch to boot the poor opponent in the head (but didnt get sent off)

A TRUE alty legend (a word bandied about with undue care and atention these days). I would also rate him ahead of Showler. That night at home to Sheffield United where we completely destroyed them has to be a favourite football moment of all time.

helped if i remember by their manager ian porterfield acting with dignty
his post match comments ran along the lines of 'altrincham were the better team, we were knocked out by a team with real heart'
compared to the usual bleatings of 'but they kicked us' etc it made a nice change

truly an alty legend and a real hero in my youth. one of those that could easily have played league football
its really nice to see old players who retain affection for the club
tell him i still reminisce about the afternoon at rotherham and the evening at home to sheff utd
all the best.

we were on the special. about 10 of us from ags. i remember what a letdown it was when we drew orient.
funnily i never really felt in danger that day unlike sheff utd when i thought i might die
