I notice that Alty FC kitman Steve Foster is currently occupying third position:  https://altrincham.fantasyclubfootball.co.uk/team-standings Insider knowledge alert there, surely? Controversial...!
I raised this as a concern a few weeks ago and got poo pooed Clearly an unfair advantage he shouldn't be allowed to play

How appropriate!  Grin Grin

Of course it should be segregated, they’re offering free coach travel. It’ll fall on deaf ears though, the priority will be on making sure they have a nice day and selling them a mince pie....

How do I book my pick-up from Trafford College

Get the train to Barnsley and give em a ring!  Grin

One of the strangest players i have ever seen at alty...i never notice him during a game and then i see he scored again..quite bizarre..
Chap came up to me at sutton coldfield and asked hows josh playing..i told him hes the most anonymous player iver ever known yet pops up on the score sheet every week.."im his dad" came the reply..

Had a good chat with his dad (as I found out) pre-season at Winsford.
He then came on this site, if I recall correctly, but after a few controversial posts in the eyes of some signed off and has not re-appeared on here.
Could be mistaken of course.
4  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Shaw Lane lose manager to Boston on: November 22, 2017, 03:58:56 PM
The new Shaw Lane manager is Paul Quinn, who was previously the Brighouse Town manager before leaving in the summer (I think). They  have had a similar rapid rise through the leagues to Shaw Lane, although not quite as meteoric. He is the son of Gerry Quinn, who of course managed us 25 years ago; apologies if that makes anyone feel old.
Let's hope he's as good at his new job as his dad was for us!  Wink PS: Don't need that to make me feel old - the 10 grandchildren (and an 11th due in February) do a good job of that!!!!  Cheesy Roll Eyes
Gerry Quinn did an excellent job for us. He assembled a good team with one of the smallest budgets in the Conference. We had a great FA Cup run to the 2nd Round & finished 10th in the league, with a particularly strong finish. Gerry was very unfortunate to lose his job at the end of October the following season. His last home game was a victory over Slough, who were top of the table at the time. Cue John Maunders returning to the board & the manager is out within a fortnight. Roll Eyes

How very touchy and protective of you! My reference (although admittedly I didn't spell it out) was to the fact that his dad took us to 10th in the conference - a position I was hoping Paul Quinn would emulate for Shaw Lane this year! Leaving us with one fewer rival for promotion!

6  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Mal Bailey RIP on: November 18, 2017, 09:52:15 PM
So sad to hear about Mal.  We were also at Runcorn that day, dodging all the trouble and yet still celebrating that goal!  Didn't he also get our first at Rotherham in that famous FA Cup win?   RIP
He certainly did! I was at both Runcorn and Rotherham. I always remember him scoring at the latter as we used to have a song (sung to the tune of "jingle bells") Which went ..

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to see the robins win away (repeat)

Riding through the snow to get to rotherham
To watch those super robins stick it up their bum
Malcolm Bailey scored, Barry Howard got number two
And those super robins had stuffed it up their flue

oh jingle bells ... (etc)

Crude but very happy days!  Cheesy

Thanks for all the memories Mal - you were an absolute superstar for us.

I've been to Matlock, Shildon, Witton, Stalybridge and Warrington this season.  I think you're right AltyDave, it must be formation away from home and we are too cautious. Perhaps we should try 2 up front? Believe it or not, I'm not sure 2 points a game will be enough.

If others, especially I'd suggest Shaw Lane, carry on as they are doing, 2 points per game will not be enough. We could well need three figures to top the league.
Also, I believe it's only one automatic place for promotion.

lets hope they don't do a Premiership and put out a weakened side for the cup game

Who would ever have imagined that Warrington away would be the biggest game of the season?
That will be at Grantham when we're celebrating winning the title!  Wink
10  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Rushall Game on: October 08, 2017, 04:13:11 PM
Brought the hubby of Mrs Saughall's best friend along yesterday. They're visiting from Denver USA and he'd never been to a 'Socca' game.  Roll Eyes
He was very impressed with the game and the support (we were both amazed at the Gate when the main stand was pretty full on its own!)
He was even more impressed to get a bottle of Budweiser in the club  Cheesy

From my point of view, it makes a nice change to be able to bowl up and feel fairly confident of getting a result rather than, as in the last two years, watching games between my fingers with hands in front of eyes!
Well done to the lads and to Phil Parkinson ... you're making an old man very happy!  Cheesy Grin Grin

A thread about a game which Altrincham won 6-0 has descended into a 'Rowley out' thread. I'm fairly new to the forum, does this happen on every thread irrespective of what the initial topic is? It seems to be very common.

I assume, when you say you're new to the forum that doesn't mean you're new to supporting Alty. If not, I'm surprised you're surprised.
12  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Grantham - Match Thread on: September 22, 2017, 09:27:46 PM
Seems like there are still quite a few of us about who went!
I was on the coach which struggled to get through the slush in Stockport and then when nearly at Grantham, was diverted as roads were closed (cordoned off) due to the foot and mouth outbreak.
We got to the ground not long before half time!
I used to take an ARP bell to ring (I know!) and was nearly refused admission when they checked my duffel bag. Everyone behind me in the queue started shouting to hurry up and he just let us all in.
My memory might be playing tricks but I think Bert Lister scored for us not long after we got in.
I do remember the ground reminding me of Matlock with one side roped off and part of a cricket pitch but I think Grantham play somewhere else nowadays - so that will be another ground to tick off!
13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Shildon game on: September 18, 2017, 04:08:19 PM
Shildon will play Banbury United away. What a missed opportunity.

What makes you believe we'd have had an easy passage at Banbury?
14  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: We need a bigger budget on: August 29, 2017, 05:15:32 PM
It was a tongue in cheek comment prompted by the number of players that are being hacked down as the only means of stopping us. Our opponents are picking up yellow cards but we are picking up substantial numbers of knocks and more serious injuries. We need to be able to put out a league winning side but the season is only six games old and we are looking at a queue for the Physio.

As Octopussy says, our new physio team can be expected to be on the ball here - they were successful last year at Nantwich when PP played the same style of football I assume?

I still can't understand why they threw hard boiled eggs.
So they couldn't be accused of being 'crackers'! (sorry, I'll get me coat)
