Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Oldham Away
« on: October 26, 2023, 10:55:27 AM »
Getting the juniors and their parents to an away game f.o.c. is a good initiative / gesture by the club and hopefully may generate some long term interest in the club.

But disappointing (i.m.o) that we are not running a supporters coach to Oldham like we did last season.

I saw on one of the fans Facebook groups last night, it’s now opened up to regular supporters beyond the juniors & parents/guardians so you’ll be able to book on now in the normal way. More broadly I can see why Union Golf Road not putting coaches on for the local away games very accessible by public transport from Manchester makes sense. We took 600 to Oldham last season & id wager majority got there by tram.

Thanks for this Sarf London...hopefully booked on

Will look with interest at nearby L1 and L2 clubs.
Parts of Chesterfield town centre is flooded with cars stranded, but they hope to play

Probably a sensible decision though because pitch could get wrecked for remainder of season, especially with game Tues
Chesterfield off.....access issues for locals due to floods and road closures

One of the problems with our pitch that the ground staff have to consider is that the pitch is being used far too often due to the agreement with MUFC ladies and other users.

I’m sure if Alty had sole use of the pitch it would possibly be able to recover better.

Probably a big factor

Fantastic news...welcome Ethan

He has turned defeats into wins already. The great Brian Clough when building his Euro winning Forest side said you must start with the best keeper....so he got Shilton...rest of team were hasbeens turned into world beaters like Kenny Burns and Larry Lloyd or up and coming youngsters turned superstars like Viv Anderson or Martin O'Neil

Great signing to get Ethan....but let's not be disrespectful to Ollie Bryne...not the same level ok keeper in my view...but a young player doing his best and his time will come..albeit maybe not at Alty

For sure, try the Fan Zone at the club.

Having been to Harrogate (the town) a few times, I always thought it was a bit too snooty for football. More rugger and country pursuits. I must be wrong.
Good assessment in general. I know the place well and the town centre area is extremely affluent, however the surrounding areas of Knaresborough, Starbeck and Ripley may lay host to some footy fans.

However the problem Harrogate face is quick, regular and reliable trains into Leeds to watch the Damned United. Buses are every 15 minutes and £2.

Be interesting to know what their average attendance is....I expect not too high, but fear we would have the same problem if in L2

When Fylde went one way out of the NLN and we went the other, I genuinely thought we wouldn't see them again for a long time.

Same here......felt they were one of those clubs who would be backed and backed at each level until they became a FL side.

I thought the same about Grays almost 20 years ago after they tonked us in the Trophy, secured promotion and then made the play offs. They ran out of steam eventually.

I was in Harrogate last week....they now have a fairly large club shop....albeit just on the fringes of the town centre. Not sure how successful it is.

Would be a gamble....he has missed a lot of football through sickness as opposed to injury.

Agree the Baines foul (not given) was a very poor decision.

He let too many pushes and pulls go......but maybe the I noticed the most were those against us

There were several instances where he played advantage and should have come back and spoken or booked the player. I thought we were fouled in the run up to the CCC goal

...in which case, many of the referees in this league would have blown for a foul straight away and thus the goal wouldn't have materialised...?!

I wouldn't say I saw any advantage played that warranted retrospective action in the form of a booking, or even a passing conversation.
I agree.....if he saw a fouk, he may have blown and prevented the advantage that resulted in a goal

However he missed what I thought was a tug back on CCC - so no advantage played...I felt he should have spotted the pull and played advantage and had a word after we score
