Tony can't afford to go full time - he's a big earner in his scaffolding job. Don't rule out him turning up at Radcliffe.Tony worked on one of my jobs for a while.....whilst scaffolders earn 'decent' money for the long hours they work...not to mention the shear physicality of what they do, unfortunately they are no better paid than joiners, sparkies or gas fitters.
I think the allotments would be very difficult to procure, and I’m not sure whether or not they have some sort of protection order over them as to what can the land actually be used for. I expect the people who work the allotments would put up a fight if they thought their allotments were under threat.. plus the land wouldn’t come cheap if it was possible to get them,. I think a redeveloped Moss lane ground in its current footprint with the car park to the rear of the popular side would suffice, I can’t see the need to relocate any time soon unless we progressed up the EFL pyramid somewhat. Whatever the progress of our club, the attendance will always be stifled by our two neighbours up the road,A redeveloped Moss Lane is probably the only realistic and cost effective option. See the above. Unless we were to progress to the Championship (!) then nothing bigger would be needed....see Burton Albion who 'only' have two mediocre clubs (in PL terms) nearby.
I am with you Rorys......happy to use the 'facilities' of a town centre and watch a winning team in a nearby decrepit stadium.Me neither. I think some people stay away because the ground is what it is. Progress is being made but it's still light years away from a lot of the ex league grounds that we visit.I've never thought of this line of thought before and not sure how much water it holds. If it's true I'm well out of step with my concept of being an Alty fan. My latest visit to York City left me empty and pretty sure I'd hate it if we followed suit. Perhaps it's an age thing, I don't know. I'll accept I've more years behind me watching football that in front and I could be suffering from a severe dose of nostalgia. If I'm in a minority I'd accept a democratic decision and go with the flow.
Build the ground and they will come.
It should be noted that Wrexham won promotion last season with Paul Mullin scoring 80 goals in 92 matches in the two seasons he was with them. Not strictly correct - Mullins and Lanstaffe exceptional......what did Stockport have in terms of scorers to win it ? Likewise Crawley etc.
Likewise, Langstaffe at Notts County, the other successful promotees, scored 44 goals in 50 matches. These are the sort of statistics that we are going to need to produce if we are to be serious contenders for promotion. Can we do it?
The manager at the time of Peter Swales taking control was Johnny Hart, who retired through ill health. Tony Book was never sacked, and retired after two spells in charge. If memory serves me...most of those listed had sucessful periods as managers.....hence getting a gig at City
The other managers of the Swales era were either sacked, or "left by mutual consent". They were :
Ron Saunders
Malcolm Allison
John Bond
John Benson
Billy McNeill
Jimmy Frizzell
Mel Machin
Howard Kendall
Peter Reid
The final manager appointed by Swales was Brian Horton, who was sacked at a later stage by Francis Lee.
We should be aiming for the playoffs this season.
The only thing, which I think will stop us, is the depth of the squad.
We are already having to convert to 5 at the back and 4 CM's in games, just because we have two wide players injured. We look even more vulnerable and disjointed when we play this formation.
I appreciate Parky stated a lot of playing budget has already gone into this current squad and you can see the quality, but I am sure I heard part of the new investment will be used towards playing operations.
If we are not planning on signing any more players until Jan then we need to dip into the loan market. Turn draws into wins by being positive.
I am happy with the fact we are unbeaten but also feel we have dropped a load of points, because of poor game management, we don't see games out. Sit back in this league and you get punished.
Just using a couple of last year loan players, as examples, if we had Maxi and Sinclair to bring on at 2 nil today and Parky was brave and doesn't remain defensive ( which we are terrible at doing ) then we would have had 3 points.
Same if we started our strongest formation against York, we would have won .
We go toe to toe with Woking and Chesterfield, attacking, in our best formation and we pick up 6 points.
If we do play 5 ( 3 cbs and wingbacks) then at least have 3 attacking players on the pitch.
