Simply a fantastic service

Many thanks

Maybe ? Not knocking him - he was no worse than his team mates in his last season for us - but he could not get a gig at a team that finished bottom of L2 with ease
3  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: York City - Jason McGill Back as Chairman on: May 17, 2018, 11:35:37 PM
Not researched it Ian. but was he Chairman when they went back up into the football league ?.......you could argue it is limited success, albeit they are traditionally a league club and once beat Manchester United in the league cup

Of course since then the wheels have come off and they find themselves playing at Step 2

FA Cup 3rd round - Prem Club away on TV = Jackpot

Needs luck of the draw and 3 wins..........sometimes feels like almost everyone else bar us has done it recently.......got to get a decent cup run soon
5  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Statement from Barrow Chairman/Owner - Ring a bell ? on: May 17, 2018, 11:13:32 PM
To be fair the fella who chucked all the money in has family roots in Barrow.......he has come along expecting much more for his money and it has not worked out......think he is simply getting cold feet now and shall we say scaling back his financial input having failed to inspire the town and grow the crowds - just like the bloke who owned Hull and bought North Ferriby for his daughter because his grandson played junior football there

I expect he will just ease his way out and they will be relegated to Conf North next season, by which time the underachievers on contracts will be 'out of contract' and they can become a self sustaining club once again at Conf North level.

They have a had a good run, been competitive for a few seasons and it was not long ago they were playing Sunderland and Middlesbrough on live TV in the third round of the FA Cup......not to mention winning the FA Trophy.......they have not had it that bad over the last ten years

Village team bought by a rich man for his daughter - did very well whilst funded beyond all previous expectations

Plug pulled and problems with legacy issues etc

New man sees the light - a well worn path is this story

"However, I am fully aware that under our current leadership, there's more chance of Stormy Daniels being appointed as the new CSH manager than Mark Harris ever being welcomed back into the fold"

Might bring a few more in  Grin

On the other hand, I imagine Morley and Johnson will be very attractive for some of those big, under-achieving National League North clubs such as York, Stockport and Chester.

Agreed, bet Southport wish they hadn't gone straight for the easy option. Harrogate could opt for a change.

Harrogate manager = Chairman's son

Another local game

Wow, you really are damned if you do and damned if you don't...

Sinnott was (quite rightly) criticised for his '20/20' target before the season in which we ultimately went down.

PP will NOT be short of ambition, nor will he have been brainwashed by Rowley (sorry for those on that particular agenda).

For the record I think we'll do very well next season and PP's realistic targets will be aprt of that.

Sinnott's 20/20 idea was actually eminently sensible....it was what was needed....but to make the statement then sign no players who could deliver this change was what was derided about the statement....

I do not think 20/20 was sensible...........a target yes, but he should have been realistic

I think I posted several months later that over the previous ten Conference seasons very few clubs had improved their goal difference the following season by scoring twenty more and conceding twenty less.
I cannot remember the exact details, but I think that only Crawley ever achieved it and since AFC failed to gain a mystery Chinese billionaire backer in the close season, then the target was frankly  ridiculous

I used to regularly see him in the Railway and the Volunteer in Sale, where he would say hello and appeared to have no airs and graces until one time when he had brought some guests from his radio show, and he was telling them in a very loud voice for the pub to hear how he got calls from Lou Reed when he was in his kitchen.
Will he be boasting about calls from Phil Parkinson now?

To be fair he never came across as big head to me..........his team used to win the Railway music quiz every week in the mid-90s when I lived close by............There were not actually that many pubs in the town centre (including those closed by the police) back then.

Always interesting to see how many coppers would come in from next door after time when their shift ended !

Didn't Leather get a massive pay rise to go to Chorley, and isn't he a key player for them? I notice their gates have dropped since they first arrived at NLN level, maybe their spending power isn't what it used to be (or are they well backed?) - him and Harrison would be immense, and that's assuming Hannigan can't play 42 games a season.

Perhaps a more realistic backup might be Luca, while we're on the subject of ex-players. Alty must be more local than BPA for him.

Elliott Newby would be my personal number one target.

Hannigan is 100% fit and looking to play every game next season.

Cheers Mr H............Hope you are right.

Tom is quality........we just need to put the 'unlucky with injuries' start behind us

Some good work there and many thanks..........but what we do not know is how much the ground costs the clubs ........York have a big income but are in financial trouble
