Thanks for that

I believe the job of new website guru is currently being advertised on the new website.

Tap on  'Club' and them 'Careers' for a full job description

Reading through it just highlights the tremendous work John Laidlar has put in through the years.

Given the extent of the job description I suspect it may be some time before the post is filled ?

It's 6.00 pm and I still can't find the result of today's friendly on the new website?

Can anyone please confirm the result scorers etc ?
3  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Social Media on: March 28, 2017, 10:11:46 PM
I find it abhorrent that Bill has been forced to make a statement on this issue, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the game which meant he couldn't be there.

I also think it's a disgrace that "the club" haven't apologised for the actions which have forced somebod, who volunteers a hell of a lot of time and effort, to pen a resignation.

I think it's a shambles that they have then allowed our Social media pages to not update for nearly 3 days, not even with a final score of the Stalybridge game.

It is also farcical that they then allowed the social media updates for the Nuneaton match to be handled by what can only be assumed to be an underperforming primate with severe dyslexia. One that then gave personal judgements on the game and asked who was getting drunk in the CSH after the game.

The whole thing stinks. Yet another PR disaster by the club. I didn't think the board could sink any lower, but forcing Bill to put his name to that caricature of a statement is beyond me.

Apart from a couple of recent TASC related announcements, Since November last year I have chosen not to post anything on the Forum,

This is due to the nature and subject matter and the declining standards that now pervades this once great Forum providing all supporters near and far,  the opportunity to discuss and debate, often with great wit and humour, a wide variety of Altrincham FC topics with fellow fans.

I do however feel obliged to temporarily break my self- imposed code of silence to comment and refute the comments about the person who provided the Twiitter updates for the Nuneaton match.

Following the mass desertion of our so called ‘Social Media’ team with what I personally consider was a show of childish petulance (look it up Mike if you don’t know what it means ?) and having read Brian Flynn’s post that he and John Edwards had assumed the further responsibility of Twitter updates for Tuesday’s match v Nuneaton, on top of the many other duties both perform on a voluntary basis I offered my services to my fellow Radio Robins colleagues as I had not been selected for commentary duties for that particular match.

Brian was pleased to accept my offer of assistance particularly as John Edwards was acting as match summariser and Brian was overseeing the technicalities of ensuring Radio Robins hits the airways (or more correctly internet).

Unfortunately for myself, some 12 days before the Nuneaton match, I underwent emergency eye surgery at the Manchester Eye Hospital to repair a detached retina.  This resulted in a minimum 14 day recovery period where I suffered from blurred vision and restricted eyesight in my right eye due to a gas bubble inserted as part of the treatment.  This made it particularly difficult when looking downwards at say a keyboard,

Despite this temporary impediment and having also had no previous experience in ‘Tweeting’ I offered my services. Brian offered me a crash course which took place 10 minutes before the scheduled kick off. This was because I had to make my way across from the Community Sports Hall after conducting the TASC Goal Rush Draws. The ‘Tweets’ were provided from Brian’s own laptop with a keyboard which was unfamiliar to myself.

Anyone who attended the match will also recall that the weather that night was particularly cold.  Not only did the extreme temperature cause my ‘bad’ eye to water excessively, one also had to cope with freezing fingers whilst trying to type without gloves.

Yes the ’Tweets’ were actually been provided by someone who was actually attending the match sat on the Radio Robins/Alty TV gantry in the freezing cold as opposed someone providing Tweets from the comfort of their own front room, or the Tatton Arms with a nice plate of prawn sandwiches and a pint close by.

Given this set of background circumstances, I was disappointed to read, but decided against commenting on Hashtag Alty’s comment after the Nuneaton match namely ‘As for tonight Twitter. What an utter shambles’  after all everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I do however take exception to the suggestion that the service on the night was ‘ farcical’ the extent that ‘that they then allowed the social media updates for the Nuneaton match to be handled by what can only be assumed to be an underperforming primate with severe dyslexia.’

I fully accept that the standard and quality of the Tweets did not match up to the quality provided by our ‘Social Media’ team and on that score I would apologise to anyone who was following the match on Twitter if the service provided on the night dipped below your expected standards. I hope however that the extenuating circumstances outlined above provide adequate explanation. If given the opportunity again I am sure the quality will be much improved.
Whilst posting, I would further question the suggestion that I ‘gave personal judgements on the game and asked who was getting drunk in the CSH after the game.’

Having re-checked the Tweets made on the night, I am at a loss to understand how such conclusions can be arrived at ? The only two ‘Tweets’ I can only assume you are referring to, to arrive at such a damning conclusion are the following -

1.   Altrincham FC‏ @altrinchamfc Mar 21 Full time whistle - Final Score Atrincham 1 Nuneaton Town 3 Improved second half performance not good enough on night

2.   Altrincham FC‏ @altrinchamfc Mar 21 Everyone off to bar for a hot drink or something stronger ?

If the first ’Tweet’ one above is to be interpreted as a personal judgment then I plead ‘guilty as charged’

If you think the second ‘Tweet’ was an incitement to get drunk in the bar when you have been sat on a gantry for over an hour and a half in the freezing cold, trying to provide a service for our exiled supporters be it either Radio Robins,  Alty TV or Twitter  , then may I seriously suggest you ‘get a life?’ if all you can do is slag off people who have the best interests of Altrincham Football Club at heart.
Just stop for a minute and consider what would happen if Brian Flynn, John Edwards, Mark Bennett and the rest of the Radio Robins and Alty TV volunteers  acted in the same manner as our ‘Social Media’ team and upped sticks and walked out ?

Not only would that deprive many of our exiled Altrincham supporters a vital link, but how would our 'Social Media' team be able to Tweet from the comfort of their own homes. work or even The Tatton Arms ?
We may not be perfect at everything we do, after all some of us are just ‘ underperforming primates with severe dyslexia.’

In fact I may get that printed on a tee shirt and stand at the bar after the match getting drunk?

Well done to Andrew and Jack.

How about allocating the winnings towards Alty TV's appeal for new equipment ?

So how many Lincoln and Altrincham players are likely to be called up for international duty then ?
8  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: First goal 'not read by Alty' on: October 27, 2016, 12:59:00 AM
John Laidlar states that Bradford's first goal, from a free kick, was not read by Alty. I beg to differ because both McWilliams and Miller read it. Miller twice went to mark their scorer McKenna, but was instructed to stay upfield by the manager leaving the player completely unmarked. All other Alty players were otherwise engaged and Miller was ideally placed to cover the scorer. If a manager can ever be responsible for conceding a goal, this was it.

As summariser on Radio Robins at the time I called it as Miller being at fault for not getting back to defend with both Reeves and Marsh on the half way line.

If Miller was instructed to stay up then I owe him a sincere apology as I castigated him on air at the time.!

Having previously been critical of Lee Sinnott for not having anyone on the half way line when the opposition have a corner, it has been refreshing to see two players in advanced positions when defending corners.

However three was pushing it last night if that was the managers instruction ?

10  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Good News Regarding Brian Acton on: September 19, 2016, 08:10:41 PM
Thanks to Altrincham supporter & helper, Bryan Ford, for providing an update on Brian Acton, the long-standing fan who collapsed just before the half-time whistle on Saturday.

Bryan has been to see Brian this morning, who was back home from hospital by 7pm on Saturday.

Fortunately, Brian's collapse was caused by sunstroke, rather than anything more serious or the understandable shock of Alty having just scored twice in as many minutes!

Brian would like to pass on his his thanks & gratitude for the help provided by stewards, St. John Ambulance staff, paramedics & fans at the scene. He is now looking forward to attending his Granddaughter's wedding, which takes place on the Isle of Wight this weekend.

I hope he remembers to pack some sun tan cream - just in case !
11  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Phew - That Was Close ? on: June 23, 2016, 10:21:14 AM
Many thanks to George Heslop's Moustache to point out that I had failed to spot that Belgium had not completed all their qualifying matches in the last update of the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance competition.

Fortunately for leader Greg Davies their one goal victory over Sweden was just enough to see him over the line by 1 goal after Iceland's 2-1 victory edged Chairman Grahame Rowley ever closer.

Greg's winning combination of Belgium, Wales and Croatia saw him finish with a total of 15 goals, just 1 goal ahead of Graham's combination of Iceland, France and Wales.

A late surge from Mike Ford's combination which included Hungary and Portugal who shared 6 goals last night was not quite enough to reach the top two spots.

Congratulations to Greg Davies and Grahame Rowley who pick up the cash for 1st and 2nd places and Neil Faulkner for having the three lowest scoring teams.

Thank you to all of you who took part and entered into the spirit of the occasion.

12  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Four Matches to Go - Come On Iceland ! on: June 22, 2016, 08:37:43 AM
It's all down to Iceland !!

The last four group matches take place this evening and Greg Davies will no doubt sat at home hoping Iceland will only score a maximum of 1 goal to ensure he finishes in top spot in the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance competition. Meanwhile, Chairman Grahame Rowley will be hoping they score at least 2 !

Greg's own three teams have completed all their qualifying finishing matches with a total of 14 goals. Only Grahame's team can catch him with two of his selected teams having completed their own qualifying matches and Iceland due to play Austria in a 5.00pm kick off. Grahame sit 2 goals behind Greg with a total of 12 goals to date.

Neil Faulkner picks up the Booby prize for the lowest scoring combination of teams with his three selected teams mustering just 3 goals in their 9 qualifying matches.

13  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance Update on: June 20, 2016, 01:20:06 PM
With just the Group A teams having completed all three qualifying fixtures Neil Faulkner's Team 2 looks like favourite to pick up the Booby Prize and finish as lowest aggregate scorers.

Two of his three teams, Switzerland and Albania have completed their three matches and have managed just 3 goals between them. Only Ukraine scoring a bagful against Hungary can deny him bottom spot.

At the top, three teams currently occupy top spot with 9 goals but both Steve Foster's Team 1 and Grahame Rowley teams include France who have completed all 3 games whereas Greg Davies, teams still have 1 match each to play.

There is still everything to play for with some potentially high scoring matches.

Can England run up a big score tonight against Slovakia ?

In Group C, Germany and Hungary will fancy their chances against Northern Ireland and Hungary respectively.

With Ireland having to find a win to progress in the tournament, Italy could capitalise on Wednesday ?

The full table is as follows

14  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / Fozzie Top & Bottom ! on: June 17, 2016, 09:56:36 AM
With 18 of the 36 qualifying group matches completed in the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance, we are still awaiting one of the countries to score more than 2 goals in a match.

Germanys 0-0 draw with Poland and Northern Ireland's 2 goal victory over were the surprise results from Thursday's fixtures.

Steve Foster could be cleaning up two of the three prizes on offer as his Team 1 currently occupy joint top spot with Chairman Grahame Rowley both on 8 goals scored to date by their 3 randomly selected teams.

Meanwhile at the bottom end of the table Steve's Team 2 occupy bottom slot with jus 1 goal scored from Hungary, Poland and Austria.

Don't despair however, the current list below includes many players whose teams have not yet completed 2 matches each so things could change when all the teams have completed Round 2 of the qualifying group matches.

If you would like to take part entries are still being accepted up to the end the second round of matches. To enter you can either send me a personal message here on the Forum or call in at the office dureing normal office hours.

The current standings are as follows:

Steve Foster (1) (France-Russia-Italy)   8

15  General Category / Altrincham FC First Team / It's All To Play For After Round 1.. on: June 15, 2016, 12:22:57 AM
.. in the TASC Euro 2016 Treble Chance Competition.

Portugal's unexpected 1-1 draw with Iceland saw the end of the first round of matches in the Euro 2016 Qualifying stages and all teams have played one match each.

No team has scored more than two goals in their opening qualifying matches and as a consequence the aggregate scoring of each entrants three teams is very close.

To date we have 41 entrants in our competition which see three teams selected at random for your £5.00 entry fee and a chance to win one of three cash prizes.

We have three joint leaders on 5 goals each after the first round of matches with the top scorers and second placed winning £100.00 and £50.00 respectively at the end of all three qualifying matches. (Anyone who has drawn either England or Russia will be hoping they are not banned by UEFA for their fans bad behaviour before the three qualifying matches are completed !)

At the bottom end of the table where there is a prize for the lowest aggregate scorers competition is more intense for the £10.00 consolation prize with no fewer than five participants having a combination of three teams who have mustered just one goal between them.

Entries are still being accepted up to the end of the second round of qualifying matches. Entries and payment can be made at the club offices (if you are renewing your season tickets etc) or by sending myself a personal message here on the forum. Payment will be collected at a later date .
