Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fans at last game of season...

Isn't there some sort of Covid chat forum this could take place on instead of here? More than tedious now.

Careful, you'll be getting threads directed at you in all caps on this extremely normal football forum.

What’s the point in bringing in temporary players? To achieve a play off spot? If not, there’s absolutely no reason to do it, waste of time and money. No relegation plus could possible upset the squad and then what happens when they’ve gone? They’ve been furloughed so won’t be available anyway.

My thoughts exactly. Obviously our forwards are naff but I don't see the point in this at all.

Because you could bring in someone we want for both this and next season, cheaply.

But we're talking about signing a player on loan for this season, not next season.

It would have to be the North West Counties League for new clubs. Bury's phoenix club is already in the Counties Division 1 North (10th tier) and played 7 games before the season ended. The original Bury still sort of exists as a shell but I doubt it'll ever play again.

I'll give it a go! (?) where I'm completely guessing.

For competitive, could it be...

Hayes & Yeading United
Dagenham & Redbridge
Rushden & Diamonds
Gravesend & Northfleet
Hampton & Richmond Borough (?)
Tooting & Mitcham (?)
Walton & Hersham (?)

For PSFs, West Didsbury & Chorlton and Bacup & Rossendale Borough (?)

What do we reckon then, is this Watmore character capable of replacing star striker Astley Mullholland?

I think what I'm saying is that we have quite a few players who seem to be in the squad but might have left us. Probably I've missed it. For example :

Curtis Miller (Nantwich) and Lewis Salmon (Stalybridge) are out on loan but their teams have shut down for the season.
Will Hall, Andy Dales, Jamie Mcdonald and Rowan Roache. What's the situation with all of them?
That's without Fisayo and Byron Harrison whose future seems to be under a cloud with the Piggott signing.
PS. Richman and Peers are, to me, valuable members of the squad and weren't part of my original query. I'm surprised that anyone would consider losing them even without their contract situations.

Salmon returned from his loan spell in November. McDonald was released, Roache was on dual registration and primarily plays for Bamber Bridge. Not sure about the others.

Well that's gone right over your head. Analysing one of his early performances to counter the argument we should give him more than a handful of games before writing off doesn't really make sense. Look, he's played, what, three games for us and already showed improvement. Personally, I trust the judgement of that guy who's got us to 4th in the conference over the forum that lost its mind when Lawrence Taylor did some short passing.

Right, let's give new players a few games before deciding they're irredeemably terrible. Remember the flak Tony Thompson got when he first joined? What about Nicky Clee? Oneneedham, you were on Harrison's case before you even saw him play! You don't have to have one player you constantly advocate for dropping, you know.

I'm talking about this on Radio Manchester in about 15-20 minutes if anyone's interested.

My day job is analysing the Scottish Prem and part of the in house style is referring to players by last name only. The amount of confusion this generates around Hamilton centre back Jamie Hamilton doesn't bear thinking about. I have to be careful to make sure my notes don't say things like "Hamilton defended well with Hamilton a highlight."

Roache is on the books at Bamber Bridge. Think he's just a bench filler while they've got no games. Not sure we should be writing off Harrison before he's set foot on the pitch by the way.

Defensive legend Adie Hawes once drove to Colwyn Bay for our home match with them.

I rocked up at witton Albion instead of the vics. I had time enough to get to the drill field though.

I once dragged my Dad all the way to Widnes for a league game against Runcorn only to realise it was off because they had a replay away somewhere in the Cup. Talking of Runcorn I headed off the Expressway for the floodlights down below, parked up and walked into what was a very smart factory sports facility. I couldn't understand why one of the teams was playing in blue and white stripes.

Presumably the place where Runcorn Town now play? The remains of the old ground survive next to the current ground.
