Altrincham FC First Team / New Signing- Keiran Walmsley
« on: January 05, 2012, 08:32:40 PM »
Altrincham FC have signed midfielder Kieran Walmsley (d.o.b. 11 December, 1983 in Preston) on a season-long loan from Kendal Town. In May, 2011, he signed a two-year contract with the Cumbrians. The Kendal Town website describes him as "Kendal's set-piece specialist" and "renowned across non-league football for his aptitude from deadball situations and his incredible ability for pinpoint cross-field passes... He is equally dependable at right wing-back where he made his name, or indeed anywhere across the midfield... Kieran has previously played for Morecambe and Fleetwood Town".
Altrincham have also extended the loan from Alfreton Town of centre-back Adrian Hawes. Adie will now stay at Moss Lane till at least 28 January, 2012. So far, he has started four games for The Robins.

Another loan, but I am pleased it's a season long, not just a month one.

Altrincham FC First Team / Getting in to Trouble Without Alty...
« on: December 17, 2011, 10:29:13 PM »
So since our game was called off today, myself and Fatdog went to watch Bury vs Brentford (dull game). Anyway, we were nearly attacked in a greasy pizza shop (nice pizza) and standing in a crowd of Brentford fans we bravely tried (and failed) to start such chants as the Mcaliskey Macarana, What the Northwich Vics was that, Heathcote sign him up and you dirty northern b*stards.

Did anyone else have shenanigans without Alty to distract them?  :D

Altrincham FC First Team / Obscure Alty Quiz
« on: December 16, 2011, 06:48:30 PM »
Just for fun. The correct answers are the ones I'm thinking of. Try and get the answers without looking them up, some are trick questions.

1) Which Alty player made a start in a cup final for Alty but in no other games?

2) Which Alty player played around an hour in a BSP match for Alty but never registed a BSP appearance?

3) Name the two players to have appeared on the bench for Alty since the beginning of October who are yet to make a first team appearance? (CSC counts as first team)

4) Who was Alty's second top scorer during the 2010/2011 season?

5) What do Aaron Chalmers, Josh Ollerenshaw and Matt Doughty have in common?

6) Which player who was involved in this year's pre season spent the least amount of time on the pitch?

7) What special significance does Michael Twiss have in Mark Maddox's Alty career?

Altrincham FC First Team / FREE 42 Seater Coach to Halifax
« on: November 30, 2011, 02:24:30 PM »
TASC chairman Brian Flynn writes:
"At a pivotal stage of the season, the board of Altrincham Football Club have stepped in to support the retention of the magnificent travelling support that the team have been given this season and, at the same time, potentially solve a financial conundrum for The Altrincham Supporters' Club (TASC).

The club are laying on a FREE 42-seater GoGoodwins coach for supporters to travel in to The Shay Stadium on Saturday and, as far as TASC Travel Co-ordinator Tom Jacobs is concerned, the timing couldn’t be better. 'Despite really good support for the coach travel service this season, we have made some significant losses on a number of trips and we couldn’t risk that happening again at Halifax, therefore our plan was to run a minibus. We are hugely grateful to the directors for helping us out. The timing couldn’t be better. We will be asking for donations from supporters using the coach service but the great thing is that we should be taking a full coach to a really important fixture and, hopefully, that will help to produce a positive team performance and result'".

Chairman, Grahame Rowley said 'As everyone is aware, we have had a bad run recently and at Tuesday’s board meeting, we felt that this was the best way of showing our support for the management, players and supporters at this time'".

Can't say fairer than that, so get on it!

Altrincham FC First Team / Lee Unhappy With Defence
« on: November 09, 2011, 06:29:53 PM »
The Sale & Altrincham Messenger reports that "Lee Sinnott got tough with his Altrincham players and warned them places were on the line after a defensive horror show sent them crashing out of the Cheshire Senior Cup at Moss Lane on Tuesday night. Dismayed at the way basic errors undermined another enterprising attacking display and cost Alty a 4-3 first round exit at the hands of Stockport County, Sinnott bluntly admitted any repeat would effectively end their promotion hopes.
'I have to be concerned about our defensive play, because we were very generous for their goals', fumed the Alty boss. 'In fact, it was like Christmas at times. I wasn’t pleased with what I saw, and if we defend like that at Worcester on Saturday, we will have a major problem and end up with no points. That is the stark reality. I’m not going to say something is OK when it isn’t, and this was unacceptable. It was like a knife through butter, like the parting of the Red Sea. All those sort of sayings applied.

‘There’s no doubt we could have defended better from the front as well. One thing I noticed about Stockport was that, when we had the ball, they closed down our defenders very fast and in numbers. I expect my team to do the same. We shouldn’t be defending like that, as a team or individually. That is not going to get me promoted out of this league, and there had better be a response on Saturday.

'It is a collective responsibility, but I am concerned about how my defenders are defending. It’s OK having three good games then one stinker but that isn’t going to get us to where we want to be. Consistency is the key. The 11 who start at Worcester had better make sure I don’t get what I’ve been served tonight. That was my final word to them. But who’s to say what the starting line-up will be? There’s an old saying that you’re only as good as your last game. When you think of the last game, that gives me some food for thought'".

IMO as soon as we get a couple of new centre backs the better. Our defence can't deal with attackers with any pace at all.

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty Kits???
« on: October 20, 2011, 07:14:52 PM »
I was out before when I saw about 4 or 5 kids in what appeared to be Alty kits. Thinking that the revolution had finally came I gave them a shout of Up The Alty. However I was informed by these slightly confused and frightened children that it was in fact St.Hughes football kits they were wearing. On closer inspection they turned out to be last season's kit with the sponsor, badges etc taken off and a St.Hughes's badge crudely sewn on. Bit weird, surely there would be a cheaper way of getting a kit?
