If we had crowds similar to those incidents, then we would have more stewards and probably a police presence.

You're contradicting yourself. If you're insisting that non-league stewards can't cope with any sort of trouble, why do you want non-segregation which would only increase the probability of trouble??

All I can say to that is... naive  ::)

How can you let away fans in the bar, drink with them, chat with them then tell them they are not welcome to stand under cover and they must go and stand in the rain. Altrincham is not equipped to deal with trouble. If fans wanted to cause problems they could easily do it with or without segregation.

Because that's the way it happens everywhere else. How many times have we've gone places, been allowed to have drinks etc, but then had to be segregated? So what?? Every club in this league has segregation (as far as I know). Everyone accepts it - no opposing fan would be immature enough to say "they let me drink with them, but they won't let me stand with them" and cause a fuss. Why? 1. because that's just the way things are, 2. the majority of fans are mature enough to see why there's segregation and not get upset about it.

if the opposing fans want to cause trouble, I'm sure it's a lot easier for the stewards to deal with it if they're contained as opposed to all hell breaking loose amongst both sets of fans.

I honestly can't see the point you're trying to make.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: 5 points over Xmas... Happy?
« on: January 02, 2007, 02:59:58 PM »
At the moment, we seem to be happy in getting the 'minimum'  - always looking at getting draws away, content with drawing against FGR at home (at least we didn't get beat!) etc, rather than aiming higher and going for the win. The team really needs to start digging out surprise results from somewhere, rather than thinking 'oh we're not going to get a win against any team above us, we'll rely on points from those below us'. What happens if we don't get those wins against R&D, Southport etc? We need to start picking up 'surprise' wins, like we did against Stevenage at home this season, for example, or D&R away last year. Those types of results are really going to make the difference.

* I also know that we're part-time etc, etc, before anyone says ;)

Err, has anyone said anything about the season ending now?

It's a valid point that surely we cannot rely solely on our home form to survive.

Went to Halifax today (bloody coldest place in the world...fact!) and I was really pleased with our performance. Thompson & McFadden looked really good, especially in the first half, our passing was good and we were unlucky to go in 1-1. 2nd half they controlled the game, but I think if we can continue this positive approach to away games (2 up front for 90% of the match), we must be able to pick up the odd win... hopefully :)

Trouble in the bar?? What exactly happened ??? I've never really had a problem with the FGR fans, only that prick Peake. I hope we didn't show ourselves up - if we did, we should be ashamed :(

We were poor and let them pass it around too much. I thought Peyton had a particularly poor game and didn't contain the little FGR player on his side at all. Still would have preferred Rod out wide, both him and Joe gave it away far too much. There wasn't much composure with everyone trying to get rid of the ball too quickly, leading to mis-laid passes. Aspinall's passing/crossing is becoming too predictable. After each FGR goal we seemed to up the ante and find more energy, but it's a shame we seemed to be chasing the game for virtually the whole 90 minutes.

I thought FGR looked quite good in places and props to those few fans that turned up. Even though I would have been pissed off/angry/distraught etc, if we'd been beaten, it would have taught those lazy, part-time fans of theirs a lesson ;)

As someone else said, 4 out of 6 points isn't bad at all. We showed a bit of fight towards the end and didn't lose and that's the main thing :) Halifax next... :)

Rod has been playing great on the wing, so I'd keep him there too. It was good against Vics that we had someone wide who could take people on and get in the box :) He's finding a bit of form too with 2 in 2 games (albeit one in the abandoned game) :)

I doubt they will bring many? 100 max (and that's optimistic) ;D

I've read on their forum that we should expect only about 30 or so  :-\

I saw it as handbags from both players. Colin pushed the other guy, but one hand accidentally caught, without any force, the other guys throat/top of his chest. Both pushes from both players were feeble to say the least.  It was 20 odd minutes into the match, the first bit of aggresssion from either sets of players, I just thought it was extremely harsh. They should have both got a booking. I know what the laws of the game say, but anyone could see it was all or nothing :)

What a fantastic game!!! After the (disgraceful) sending off of Colin, I wondered how we'd score and whether we'd have to hold out for a point..... fecking unbelievable response from the lads. Rod played his best game since Aldershot last season, took people on, got shots in on target and got the first not long after Colin went. In the 2nd, they had a few more chances but didn't really look like scoring. Bushell, again another playing his best game, controlled the midfield, whilst Joe (who I have criticised in the past) played some lovely stuff, but wasted several opportunities in front of goal (not to mention getting kicked in the face... ouch!).

Really proud of every single player. Great response from the last home game.

Great attendance - 2200 I think? Any one know what the breakdown was?

Brilliant game, brilliant fans. I love you Alty!!! ;D ;D

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Alty Cup Atmosphere
« on: December 19, 2006, 08:26:45 PM »
I was sat near graham on saturday and i know he never looks the happiest in the stands but he did seem somewhat subdued by the lack of atmosphere,i personally think we cant hope for good crowds untill we start trying to real in new fans which im not sure we have the resourses to acheive yet,i suspect though he would claim in none league its quality not quantity, things would have been differant if the fans werent freezing

To be fair, our league attendances are up and the initiatives tried this season have been working to get those extra fans in. The lack of atmosphere was because it was fecking freezing and most importantly we played like a sunday league side. We're in a slump in form and people are starting to get pissed off. If he was subdued by the lack of atmosphere, he should pay his tenner and come and stand with the rest of us and see the game from our point of view.

I think GH is very lucky that many fans are so loyal (to both him and the team). Despite our current form, a lot of fans have stuck up for him and continue to get behind the team. To then turn around and have a moan at us...
